Thanks you, so much for the shout out, I think you must have some channel members or something that got to watch the video early because we were like where is this video you guys are talking about? Either that or the KZbin gods were rolling dice either is possible. We have been working on our mics since, (despite the fact it has been a blue yeti since the start 😮💨😪😮💨) its mostly cause we are in bum truck nowhere under a tin roof, but now we are in effectively a blanket fort so HOPEFULLY the sound will be better, we have been checking and double checking... But we think we have got it, when "Start Now" comes out this weekend it SHOULD be good... you can tell us one way or the other. And to be next to Brushstrokes is an honour, top bloke

The audio episodes release a day or two earlier depending on the week, so that's where you saw the initial people come from. Also don't fret the mics too much, Eric's an obnoxious audiophile. I've heard worse. If you're looking for a cheap mic upgrade we swapped over to PodMics with a basic inline amp and 80 dollar audio input control knob thingy (I'm very good at audio) from amazon and the quality has been phenomenal. The whole setup was like 300 bucks a person and was amazingly easy to set up.
@WhatareyouPaintingnow11 ай бұрын
@@thepoorhammerpodcast The mystery is solved! Audio releases before videos, makes sense... We are big believers in personal responsibility and its my responsibility to do the audio (Cal). But we live in what is known as a granny flat, which is an Australian classic, which is a whole lot brick and then a wall wished on with a tin roof. As you can imagine this doesn't help with stopping sound. However, recently we have upgrade to an office and we have done one recording in here 'Design vs Lore: Dark Angels' and the outside was still a problem so we have now used our blanket fort solution except they are doonas (Sunny says some people call them comforters) on hooks as sound curtains and we have tested and we think FINALLY we may have it right. So we have been working on it. - Cal I was very excited for the shout out and shared it with every man and his dog - Sunny I seriously hope the sound fixed please tell us on Sunday... also we live in the future so Sunday is Saturday for you I think... - Cal

Oh I've got a few for others to check out. Hobby stuff: Eric's Hobby Workshop - very fun terrain and other scratch builds, currently building a to-scale imperator titan that is approx 7 ft tall. Doesn't upload _as_ frequently as I'd like, but I'm always excited to see what he's cooked up Pete the Wargamer - Fantastic kitbashing channel, explains what he's doing well enough that you can follow along and get something pretty good even if it isn't quite as good as his. Also includes difficulty ratings to some of his kitbashes which is super helpful Gameplay: OldenDemon - Mostly talks about 2nd edition, talking about old rules quirks and systems and sometimes discussing old battle reports that were published in White Dwarf at the time. Minisodes - Similarly talks about 2nd edition and other Warhammer stuff from the 90's in short battle reports, painting, and other stuff. Good if you wanna watch something about warhammer that is more around 15 minutes rather than 40. Miscellaneous stuff: E.M.M.P. and HERCORP music channel - Creates music based around Warhammer 40k, very cool if you want something thematic to play in the background while you and your friends play Warhammer or for some other Grimdark tabletop game that isn't just church music. KiriothTV - Discusses new Warhammer releases, very focused on the modelling aspect of the hobby, if you want to listen to someone admire or criticize the sculpts of the minis, he's your guy.

Three I would like to add are the following: 1.) Winters SEO- he is a wargame guy with similar production levels to mini wargaming. He however always tries to infuse a level of narrative to his games. He also has some awesome narrative battle report campaigns in his memberships. Great voice to listen to and do some job ting to. 2.) Little Wars tv- old guys that do historical scenarios, from Vietnam to Punic wars. It is cool to see all of the different models and is inspiring me to write narrative scenarios. Their pyrrhic wars series is great and is a hearty recommend for something that needs a 40K conversion ASAP. Also helps I’m a huge history buff too, so very biased here but is great to see other wargame systems 3.) Rogue Hobbies- A former GW employee that started a KZbin channel. She covers histories of miniature ranges or more obscure miniatures. Just a great way to learn about anything and everything wargaming/GW related. She also has a very infectious joy and enthusiasm in all of her videos

Going to be subscribing to almost all if not all of these channels. Thank you for recommending all of these! :) -WesHammer is a great intro for easy to understand obscure lore. -A Vox in the Void also is audiobook style of stories. -Isyander & Koda is great and explains things in a way that a 70+ year old grandmother was able to watch/listen along and get understanding along with entertainment. -Squidmar and EbayMiniatureRescues are two I'm sure everyone has seen for the painting/hobby aspect. -The Bard Craft is not quite 40k but more fantasy/D&D related is for making terrain and custom figures. -Dungeoncraft is specifically D&D themed but has plenty of videos on the hobby, making terrain, ways to find/get cheap minis, and plenty of insights into how games work as a whole. And for introductions in general, I've discovered a lot of vTubers either making 40k content, or watching other content and giving input as they learn. It's fun to learn alongside someone completely new. -40k Vtuber: Christian Von Carmian I discovered due to their Genestealer Cults series and goes in deep on mixing lore with gameplay. Also there's this little known channel called Poorhammer. Probably haven't heard of them.

For the Age of Sigmar section, I'd like to shout out 2+Tough. There's not a ton of Age of Sigmar Lore Channels out there, but they do it the best, in my opinion. I'd say their biggest strength is in covering what a given faction is about, and they always ask the questio, "Why is this cool?" They then explain what they personally love about the lore topic they just covered. I do personally wish that they'd do some updates or remakes of their introductory videos since their content has improved massively since some of those videos were first created, but the work they do is still great if you ask me. And for the 40K fans, I'm a big fan of "Paul is Bad At Stuff". They're pretty new, but if you like shorter form, highly edited videos of thoughts about painting, gaming, and occasionally other topics. He does it incredibly well imo.

One big lore guy I highly, HIGHLY recommend is Occulus Imperia. I really like Olden Demon. He's a smaller channel covering oldhammer, particularly 2nd edition and rogue trader. His videos are a mix of informative and deadpan comedy. He has a unique (at least in my experience) style where he shows an simple abstract representation of the situations and interactions that he is discussing that I find appealing. I highly encourage anyone who's interested in older editions of warhammer to check him out.

a couple more battle report channels: MiniWarGaming does Tabletop Tactics style battle reports for basically every "standard" scale non-skirmish game; 40k, Horus Heresy, AoS, and even occasionally Warhammer Fantasy. Winters SEO and SN Battle Reports are both channels I watch for their Horus Heresy battle repoets, though I believe both do also do 40k ones as well. Finally, for lore I'll reiterate Oculus Imperia from other comments, he does a very good job of being "in universe" for his videos, and the narration and content is good on top.

I'm surprised that almost nobody I talk to knows about 'Baldemort's Guide to Warhammer.' It's a lore channel where the lore is read more dramatically and after Bricky's intro lore videos it's my number one recommendation to new people who are interested in the lore since his videos are more just factions, characters and events, so there isn't nearly as mugh to sift through as Leutin

I wanna recommend as a niche channel Jordan Sorcery. He's focused more the Old World of Warhammer Fantasy but more importantly the history of Games Workshop. Also: Oculus Imperialis for lore. His angle of doing it all in character just adds so much extra flavor.

The algorithm has blessed me with a few surprisingly small channels that I nevertheless really enjoy. 1. Rogue Hobbies - This one is probably a little better known. Louise Sugden, formerly of Warhammer+ "Masterclass" fame, has started her own channel, and while she does do some hobby stuff, a lot of it is really just exploring the weird side of retro-warhammer. Very fun, very much worth checking out. 2. Olden Demon - Dedicated to exploring the absolute weirdness of playing retro warhammer. His "Dawn Raid" video recapping an old White Dwarf battle report is very charming, and illustrates both some of the very weird rules of the game, and also some very different expectations of how the game should be played. Really cool, and very funny. 3. Miniscape - this is more or less one guy's hobby journal of collecting and painting retro warhammer minis, and explaining what it was like to collect them as a kid and, again, some of the weirdness of the game at that point. The videos are short, well-edited, and simultaneously charming and funny.

In return, I'll shout out a few I like that you could check out: For a some amazing audiobook/narration: -The Amber King -Vox in the Void and for another podcast/lore -Astartes Anonymous (These guys have some fun vids on creating lore(Mostly space marine stuff if the name wasn't obvious) as well as some funny cursed stuff if you go rummaging around.)

Guess I'll add a couple of recommendations here: •Olden Demon: Old Hammer with nostalgia dialed up to 11, but with enough humor to entertain those who didn't play back then. Covers rules, fan theories and classic White Dwarf battle reports using the graphics they used to use in the 90s, providing commentary/analysis. •Rogue Hobbies: A mixed bag of content types from a former GW employee/Warhammer+ presenter. Has in my opinion she has an incredibly unique style of painting. •Matt's Hobby Hour: Great painter and very chill presentation. I'm using his Kraken paint scheme on my Nids at the moment. •Zumikito Miniature: Painting, mostly focused on display pieces but he's able to give a great instructions on painting techniques in a relatively short video.

When it come to lore, my favourite channel is hands-down Occulus Imperia. Not only does he have the most wonderful voice, excellent turns of phrase (e.g. "Look a gift equine in the mandibles"), and lovely sound design, but uniquely amongst lore channels, he is using the lore from an in-Universe perspective. Instead of doing "Hello, I'm bloke in the 21st century talking about this universe", Occulus Imperia has a character of an Imperial Historiator, along with an interesting meta-plot involving his relationship with a certain Lady Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. Good stuff.

Of my favorite mini series of Vince Venturella's hobby cheating is his color series, where he just goes in depth on painting with a specific color. Its amazing how much nuance can go into something seemingly simple as "red". A creator i would add who wasn't brought up is @Noman . His audio dramas / skits are great, I'm especially partial to his Life in Da' Perium and Ogg the Ogryn series.

Pancreasnowork is probably my favourite 40k loretuber. Great sense of humor that I click with, loves the Eldar, loves the elves, talks about fantasy and AoS, shits on the imperium and the emperor every chance he gets. Man of culture. His non warhammer videos are also nice, as he occasionally takes a little dip into halo and star wars. The other youtubers from Pancrease's Lorecrimes podcast are also incredible loretubers. Deadlifts for the Dark Gods mostly makes lore shorts but they're pretty nice. And both The Amber King and The Rememberancer have really high quality, good production lore videos. The Rememberancer particularly has SO MUCH 30k content, its kinda insane. In the same vein as Pancrease though, another loretuber I highly recommend is Live! From the Black Library. Chrono is so good at finding these really cool obscure lore tidbits that I think some people would really enjoy. I've rarely seen people go into the older lore of 40k so well. He is often very critical when it comes to 40k literature though, and can rip certain narratives apart, but usually when he does that its honestly pretty warranted.

If you like inside-baseball surrounding the hobby side and specifically GW, The Painting Phase. Their podcast is super interesting, if you wanna hear stories from people who were in the trenches (and commanders tent) at GW during the past decades. Also for batreps, my absolute favorite is Liam Dempsey. His channel has grown a lot this year, he recently moved into an actual studio that looks incredible. Their videos are very relaxed and not at all competitive, they focus much more on narrative play. They are also very much NOT family-friendly. They are "garage-hammer" through and through and have a really good attitude towards the game and hobby.

I’ll add a new category “themed” lore channels. Where I will Oculus Imperia- a British/Irish lore guy, he theme’s himself as a historitor in the vaults of Tera and has some nice choir background track stuff his vids are around 30 minutes- an hour. He also does things about AOS occasionally and has a really nice voice. 40k theories- he takes his knowledge of lore to theorize some interesting ideas there’s also a series he does with help about homebrew that go pretty in depth. For a funny podcast channel Adeptus podcastus- 4 dudes making funny podcasts about weird scenarios or tier lists about 40k factions or people doing weird things. They nearly killed me from laughing while driving.

I gotta few recommendations: First of all and at the top of my list, Heresy for Heretics solely based on the fact that the man has made a whole channel around the color magenta and almost anything in there is painted synthwave. 40k in 40 seconds is also a nice addon to that channel. Black Magic Craft is not all about 40k but he makes great terrain pieces. And as a final recommendation, Weshammer. As a horror fan I love his horror stories from 40k. It's really a niche corner of 40k but there are quite a few gems in there.

Awesome picks and some to try for me, gonna shout outmy own unmentioneds: - PancreasNoWork (Very funny dry humour lore youtuber who doesn't get lost in the weeds and covers a broad set of topics, including Halo lore too!) - Rogue Hobbies (Delightful painting/colour scheme lore gremlin who used to work at GW similar to Duncan and Peachy. She has infectious enthusiasm.) - Warrior Tier (His long form lore videos narrated in character as Trazyn are some of the most incredible high production value vids I've ever seen) - Zorpazorp (I sometimes find him a bit too 'youtubery' loud ham/clickbaity, but his AMAZING terrain builds are undeniably stunning and well worth looking into) - Juan Hidalgo (If you want a golden demon quality painter, but who is more accessible than most, check him out. His videos taught me to use contrast, he avoids airbrushing entirely, explains things very very well, and he replies to every. Single. Comment. So if you aren't sure, ask, even on years old videos he WILL reply very quickly. Fantastic bloke. - Pete the Wargamer (Sooooo good kitbashes)

I learned about sprue goo, using baking soda and super glue to lock in a pinned miniature, many ways to make cool bases like slime, lava, snow and rain/puddles, his Mixture for Black Templar armor is insanely good for how fast you can apply it which works for any black army in general... so much He also does alot of challenge videos, building terrain, model news updates. He does a bit of everything and I can't recommend them enough

You guys just made my day! Thank you ❤️ Really cool to hear an elevator pitch on my videos, as I myself struggle to define what they are or what I'm even doing with them half the time 😂 As for the glacial publishing cadence.. I'm experimenting with some ways to get the videos out faster but its proving a tough problem to solve. Hopefully I can post more regularly in 2024 🥲

the mentioned "lore problem" is actually why I like Arbitor Ian specifically, rather than just reading wiki pages and spitballing fan theories he often takes time to discuss real-world context or discusses content from campaign books; i.e. the kind of stuff you don't get from black library, or wouldn't be worth listening to if you did.

Also gives honest takes about the books like his "every horus heresy book in 20 minutes video" is one I've found myself agreeing with almost whole heartedly so I've started using that video as a ranking guide on what books to read and avoid and basically if he gives it 3 stars or higher I'll read it, anything less and its not one I'm gonna get

He's one of the only creators I know who examines Warhammer lore from a publishing history perspective, and not just presents things as "The Lore of [X]". Like his Badab War videos, one for the "latest" rendition of the story, and one for how its story changed and developed over years of publication.
@BARMN8911 ай бұрын
Yeah they kinda sped past him, but his videos are a lot more than I think calling him a Lore channel does. Stuff like the Horus Heresy intro video, where he goes through each editions version of the heresy and how it evolved is useful just from a real world cultural perspective on the game

I'm much more of an AoS guy. Here are my thoughts: HeyWoah - I saw a battle report where I witnessed how strong Chaos Chosen are in Slaves to Darkness. I watched his S2D deep dive and fell in love with the faction. I painted my free Vindictor at my local Warhammer store, so I watched HW's Stormcast deep dive and sort of fell in love with the faction. I have watched those two videos and his "Every faction" videos wayyy too many times and they never get old. Season of War - yep, among the best AoS battle reports out there. Top tier production value with a great balance of detail and speed. My recommendations: Battle shock Wargaming - My other favorite AoS battle report team. Still solid production value and they seem to be very competitive players. Stormkeep - Focused on Stormcast, but they do deep dives on just about everything as it comes out. It's just a PowerPoint while a handful of friends analyze everything to death from a competitive perspective. Juan Hidalgo - He attempts to replicate 'eavy metal style. He reminds me a lot of the war hipster but he goes in a little more detail. Don't try to copy him exactly. He will do 5 progressively brighter edge highlights. You only need to do one.

I really enjoy 52 Miniatures' videos. He's got an eclectic mix of hobby content. Some really fun dioramas (there's one that's a play on the Three Little Pigs story -- but with a Space Wolf), painting tutorials, and a couple videos showcasing 3d printed models (which then paints; I think that's important). But what I really like about his videos is that they ooze style. A 52 Miniatures video looks like a 52 Miniatures video, regardless of what the content is, and feels very different when compared against other hobby channels. And for something adjacent to our hobby, North of the Border, who sculpts things out of clay. Definitely not the sort of content you want to watch with your kid, though. Because he's going to make a reverse centaur or realistic Simpsons and give said child nightmares.
