Xenonhanced weapons - all weapons have +1s but each time unit attacks it needs to make hazardous roll and take d3 mortal wounds on 1. If character model is leading the unit and did attack during that sequence, roll two hazardous dice instead. (In addition to any other hazardous rolls unit is required to make) Enhancements (stolen from other xeno armies on purpose) 1)Veil of Darkness 2)The Phoenix Gem 3)dominus or Manipulus only: Before battle begins you must replace all ranged weapons with Tau Missile pod and one of: tau plasma, tau hig-output burst cannon, Tau Fusion Blaster 4)Thrice-cursed Heretek - model and unit its leading get devastating wounds and sustained hits 1 but automatically fails all their hazardous rolls this shooting phase.

This was a great video! Let me preface what I'm about to get into by saying THANK YOU for the disclaimer that these aren't meant to be interpreted literally, otherwise I'd have suffered a brain-bleed. In all seriousness, I think you came up with some very interesting ideas that aren't too far-fetched if you just retool them a bit(not all of them though). Especially since you brought up AoS so much in this video. It really does know how to cut loose and do interesting stuff more than 40K does, at least right now. My prime example being the rule that forces your opponent to redeploy their units. That was a thing Kruelboyz could do when they came out in 3rd edition. Force up to 3 enemy units into, essentially, Strategic Reserves. Granted, it was on a dice roll to see if it even worked, and translating it to 40K would require some stipulations on how it interacts wirh Deep Strike, but that's a good, creative idea I'd like to see done again in Warhammer. In fact. . . I could see it being a thing in Screaming Ravens, since they could distract an enemy away from the front lines, forcing them to arrive late to the battlefield. Or being able to move enemy units out of position. Gargants weren't even the first unit to do it in AoS, the Alarith Stoneguard of the Lumineth Realm-Lords had the ability to shove an enemy unit they fought with 2" away. The idea was cool and thematic on-paper, but, to prevent the problem you described in the video, the opponent got to choose how they moved their models as long as it was away from the Stoneguard, so it would help the opponent more than hurt them half the time. Finally, changing/adding keywords to mess with Terrain should be a thing, as long as they're additive, not "oops, you have no cover and now you die to my T'au Railgun", for as bad as it is mechanically, Ogor Mawtribes(Beastclaw Raiders specifically) have a Prayer that lets them add the "Obscuring" keyword to a piece of Terrain, which is, in THEORY supposed to help them defend against shooting(spoiler, it doesn't, I don't even play Ogors and I know it doesn't help). So yeah, good job Paul! As for my own ideas. . . I'd like to see some keyword-based manipulation, sort of like how Disciples of Tzeentch can inflict the "Burning" Keyword or Maggotkin of Nurgle inflict the "Diseased" onto enemies not only as a way to track a progressive debuff condition, but there are also rules and abilities in those armies that interact with those keywords, like Tzeentch having a Battle Formation(Detachment) that gives -1 to wound to any enemy units with that Burning keyword. Also, Always 3 Clawsteps Ahead for Skaven, this goes for the current version where you get a full move with a unit on BOTH player's turns. But also the version from 3rd edition which could copy your first advance and charge rolls army wide and just use them instead of rolling. As well as let you pile-in with every unit simultaneously. But I'd need to wrack my brain around what other sorts of mechanics I'd want to see, since I approach design as "Top Down", which means I take inspiration from the lore or think of what would make sense/work in the fiction of the game and try making mechanics to fit that. While it seems your process is something closer to "Bottom Up" design, where you think of the rules first and then write the flavor around those mechanics. But those principles and how we apply them are a sliding spectrum, not a strict binary. Also, final point, why'd you have to take a shot at AoS by bringing up 1st Edition man? I'm happy you mentioned AoS as much as you did in the video, don't get me wrong, and I know it wasn't malicious. But 1st Edition and it's bad rules writing is such an overdone meme that people use as a recudtive argument for why "Sigmar Bad" when it grew out of that VERY quickly.(that being said, 1st Edition Warathmongers from AoS had a rule that forced an enemy unit to literally fight themselves, and I want that in 40K for World Eaters, I don't care how they do it but it needs to happen!)
@PaulIsBadAtStuff22 сағат бұрын
Sigmar 1st edition is funny lmao. Hot take, I actually like some of the rules. I reckon you could make a game mode with those in mind, but yeah as a release of a game it's a funny meme lmao. The burning keyword stuff is a great point. That's such a useful way to track stuff and to apply buffs that 40k should get involved in. We have it kind of with things being suppressed and that always meaning the same thing but otherwise nothing as interesting as burning.
@KamenRiderGreed22 сағат бұрын
@@PaulIsBadAtStuffExactly! Also, not sure if you saw the edit, but I added in some Skaven rules from current and past editions that should *absolutely* get developed on more. Because you're right, (if Warhammer isn't going to be full alternating activation at least) we need more ways to move or just do stuff in general on the opponent's turn besides die slighly less quickly or Overwatch ONCE. Which is what AoS is doing right now, and it's the best it's ever been.

Literally this week I started working on a Blood Angels Successor Chapter homebrew. I have my rules done and already like 14 pages of lore written haha (basically I wanted to combine machinery with infantry/death company in a way that makes sense. Not fully into machines like Iron Hands and not "Death Company only"-rules which I see as boring)...it revolves around the smoke key word :) In short: When you hold more markers in a zone than your opponent, that zone counts as your boiling mist. 3" around smoke units count as boiling mist. Adeptus Ast. units within your boiling mist gain smoke. That way you have a sort of vehicle/infantry set up because you need some smoke units (vehicles) as setups and infantry to push to markers fast amd spread it by chaining. Meaning you cant just be like tanks backline, i fantry front line. You gotta move as one unit. Enhancements amd strategems revolve around units with smoke. One also makes my enemy basically use a granade throw on themselves at the start of their movement phase when they are within of my boiling mist...because hot, you know.

about the 40k having mechanics to move units, they used to exist in older editions, third editions lash of torment and the tyranid mawloc were the 2 i could think of, but were generally quite broken because of janky rules or unexpected outcomes and the fact that 40k is a positioning based game they were extremely powerful. i wasn't playing in 3rd so i don't know the intricacies of the lash of torment. i was (kinda) playing during 5th know the tyranid mawlock could be used to oneshot unit many times its points value as when i came up from the ground it would use a blast template to hit units as it was coming from the ground and if they were still alive it would force them to move out of the way, however if they could not be move for whatever reason they would be destroyed, i distinctly remember watching as a mawloc dropped into the middle of a tightly packed imperial guard tank column and somehow managed to take out a leman russ and a baneblade in one hit. ( just reread the rules and am not wholly sure how this was possible but i was only about 6-7 at the time) its because of situations like this and the fact that moving your opponents models is and extremely hard to balance ability GW have basically steered clear of moving your opponents models since the end of 5th.
@anazron80581122 сағат бұрын
Time Echo is literally an ability the Thousand Sons have in kill team. You place a marker in a model's melee range, which is either 1 or 3 inches, and when that model is done moving shooting charging or whatever it does, the model is picked up and placed back in range of that marker. The marker is then removed. That works much better because the way kill team works, each individual model takes aturn doing all of its actions, meaning you're going to use the marker immediately after casting it.

Necron Detachment Detachment Rule: Prismatic Exhibits You can include any units without the EPIC HERO keyword in your army. You can only include no duplicate units. If Trazyn the infinite is your warlord you can include up to to of each unit. The combined points cost of such units depends on your battle size: Incursion: Up to 500 pts Strike Force: Up to 1000 pts Onslaught: Up to 1500 pts None of these units can be your Warlord No ideas for enhancements tbh Strategems include1 that lets you deploy a unit from reserves within x inch of Trazyn

I love the copium from a bunch of us K-Sons players is that the grotmas detachment is really good but only once we get our codex and it's confirmed as 'Codex Tzeentch', opening up access to the psychic weapons of Tzeentch demons and having significantly less overlap with the CoM as a result. It's a shame too because even if Grey Knights is more or less the same as us, it'd be so awesome to just copy their homework and get a flamer-heavy detachment (possibly with teleport shenanigans if we really want to steal) and give things like flamers the psychic keyword. Granted, you'd need to make that keyword not a strict downgrade like it is in 99% of the game (thank you CoM), but turning flamers psychic to do weird stuff with them like pushing enemies around or having a strat to make them pistols would be hilarious. Like Space Marine 2 is already out and we can steal from it, we could have an entire detachment about melee SOTs or something more thematic like a blackstone pylon enhancing the warp allowing us to regenerate like necrons. Hell, just a caster detachment that doubles the amount of cabal points generated but also gives us twice as many spells to cast making us play like the fantasy of Auric Champions in Custodes (aka a bunch of characters running around being 'just the mainest, bestest characters') would be so much more fun and interesting than what we got. And instead we copied chaos demons. GW pls.

Slaanesh whips used to be able to both push and pull enemy units in past editions! It ended up real toxic since during those editions (4th/5th/6th I don't quite remember when they started and stopped having this) units could take damage from falling off terrain, as well as count as destroyed if they were forced to move off the table.

I have always liked the idea of giving armys unique ways of scoring points, so khorne giving vp on character kills or some sisters units that could pray instead of fighting for a turn for a vp. You could also have super weak units that award cp when still in game at the end (more if they are in nomansland or the enemy deployment zone)

They had this on 9th and it was very bad for game balance as it didn’t matter how good your units were or army was but really if you had easy ways to get extra victory points. Most “good” armies could get like 12-15 secondary points on T1 without interaction

I have an idea for screaming ravens detachment homebrew. an enhancement that you can put on techmarines or captain models. At the end of deploying armies you may swap one vehicle with another of the same chassis and if it doesnt cause your list to exceed points values. If they have people embarked in originally and the switch means the unit cannot embark in they drop out within 3 inches of the vehicle and still in your deployment.
@bensagnella75723 сағат бұрын
how about a Tsons regiment that gives you cabal points when a non-marine unit dies. It would try to be more horde focus with cultists swarming on points and slowing big things like knights so you can gain Cabal points. there could be strats that makes your opps shooting worse casue someone sabatoged the ammo or having it that when tzeengors die they explode and do mortals on a 4++. maybe a strat that destroys a unit at half strength to summon to summon deamons. (the cost would probably have to equal the points cost of what you're summoning so you dont summon a LOC by summoning 1 cult squad) you could call it the cult of sacrifice or something?
