The Emperor's Children were a proud, disciplined and highly efficient force, overcoming every challenge they faced with honour. Led by the Primarch Fulgrim, the 3rd Legion unfortunately fell into Slaanesh's thrall and turned traitor in the Horus Heresy, causing ruin and madness in the name of the Prince of Pleasure. This is their story.

I adore the story of how Manus got the nickname "The Gorgon." Fulgrim and Manus were together at one point looking over a piece of art for The Emperor to have as a gift. Manus stated that such a piece of art was worthless since it lacked a practical purpose. Fulgrim remarked in return, "Ferrous, you're such a Gorgon." And with that, Ferrous Manus embraced this epithet and thus was forged a friendship.

i'm curious what people think of Fulgrim...because he had SUCH a positive beginning to his story...he was this amazing young man who brought his planet back to life...then his legion...truly a phoenix lord. but IMO the first warning sign is the word often used to describe what he felt about his father...he was "enraptured" by his father. that speaks to me of blind loyalty...such an obsessive mad devotion...a kind that could be exploited...and then of course there is that theory that Fulgrim did have a psychotic flaw in his genes...but we don't know if it was true. i also think the fact he thought perfection was possible is a bit mad...because as we all know perfection is utterly impossible. my grandmother used to say "those who pursue perfection have already failed" what she meant by that was there is no such thing...so perhaps Fulgrim was Primarch doomed from the start...anyway feel free to leave your own opinions.

personally, i feel that fulgrim's story would have been better if he never managed to free himself from the daemon. instead being forced to watch his legion descend into madness and what's being done in his name and with his body, unable to do anything and all alone; nurising the daemon with despair. it would be more tragic, interesting and grimdark...

Whiskeey666 Yeah they did it so it would actually be Fulgrim in the series and not some demon but it's dumb The worst thing a writer can do in my opinion is undo some perfect ending to being a character back. It's never a good idea I mean that fucking ending with Fulgrim being forced to sit and stare, unmoving and unblinking, and forever be made to gaze upon the concert hall that embodies the depths to which his legion had fallen. For him to get one last look at his own possessed and corrupted body before it turned away and left him there to suffer in despair for the rest of time. That shit is beyond perfect. It's like a Greek tragedy on steroids perfect for 40k Then "lol I tricked the demon and fuck Ferrus I have no regrets lololol"

Fulgrim is one of the most tragic stories...and that is why it is so great. this may sound harsh but the only people who hate fulgrim are the pussies who can't appreciate a sentimental story.

@@richardthelionheart8656 From a storytelling perspective, yes, that would be amazing, and an original twist on the idea of a traitor primarch. Unfortunately, that would conflict with the official canon--namely, that Fulgrim turned traitor _and ascended to daemonhood_ (possessed individuals can't do that as far as I know). I wish things had ended there in _Fulgrim_ and then the story of his eventual fall was continued in a future volume...as it stands it feels like the author hit a time crunch and ran out of ideas. =/

@@richardthelionheart8656 You raise a good point but I think that also opens a path for things in the future. You forget about the successful Fulgrim clone Fabius traded to Trazyn for the uncorrupted EC geneseed. Assuming it was the demons doing all along and that Fulgrims soul itself remains uncorrupted but bound to his new body, it would make for an amazing redemption arc. The clone seemingly breaking out of Trazyns collection with a ragtag group of imperials and xenos long thought lost only to wind up on Macragge begging for Rouboutes forgiveness. It brings up the concepts of the prodigal son and redemption through atonement, the idea of striving for perfection by resisting excess or to quote the christinan lords prayer "as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil".

I think that's because they need Fulgrim for the tabletop. I agree, freeing him from the daemon wad anticlimactic af, but in the game he would not be much stronger than a greater daemon

He saved him during the invasion of Isstvan Extremis before the betrayal, to be exact - the injury he sustained is why Garro was on the Eisenstein at all. Given the Traitors were still masquerading as loyal and there were likely plenty of witnesses, it is interesting to note but perhaps not as revealing as it could have been.

Rylenor survived the bombing in the underground bunker and almost 8000 years later was found by the Emperors Children. He faced Fulgrim and almost killed him but instead took about 50 of them with him after he overloaded his power core. .....Fulgrim escaped. But he did get a chance to call Fulgrim on all of his disgrace and announce himself and the last of the loyal Emperors Children and ANCIENT OF RIGHTS!!!!

I'm an Emperor's Children fanboy, I'm not going to lie. But I hate almost every single EC character, Lucius being the worst, as in the biggest loser in all of waehammer honestly I wish they would just remove him. With that said, Fulgrim is the best Primarch, and Saul Tarvitz is the best of the Emperor's Children.

You might enjoy the Death Eagles space marines, then. Officially they're a Raven Guard successor chapter, but it's rumored they were originally loyalists from the III Legion who either escaped Isstvan III or defected later on. (And by "rumored" I mean it's stated as such in _The Horus Heresy: Book Four,_ not just a fan theory.)

Rylanor actually is dead. He fought against Fulgrim and actually detonated an unexploded virus bomb killing himself, but Fulgrim was saved by Slannesh

Well why would it be? Fabius aside, the Blight was never an issue once Fulgrim returned and so for most of the Legion it was a thing of the past. Plus it was an imperfection, so I could see the Legionaries who did know deliberately saying nothing.

Urgh, those who serve She who thirsts... I never did understand why eldrad believed he could sway fulgrim and couldn't sense the daemon resting in his blade. Given maugetar in the eldar tongue is 'harvester' as the honoured Phoenix lord Maugan ra's weapon carries the same name I wonder if the stone was constructed similarly and was packed full of slaaneshi daemons

Not currently, though I have covered the characters like Bile and Lucius in more depth if you want a feel of their warbands' actions. Plus if there are good tales like Clan Raukaan last week I can cover more about the Chapter at large, but covering 10,000 years of history would be rather difficult. I'll bear it in mind, though!

We do know what happened to Rylanor.... He was killed by Fulgrim while attempting to corrupt him like 1000 years after the heresy. Rylanor detonated a Life Eater Virus Bomb in the attempt to kill Fulgrim during his trap, wounding but not killing Fulgrim because of his daemonic physiology.

There is small hints that they preferred fast attacks, but in general their doctrines ensured they had a well rounded force. So if you want to max out a unit type, go with jetbikes, but make sure they have adequate heavy weapons/air support and the like too.
