Nice build, but please when holding wood on the right of the miter saw use you're right hand to hold the wood and operate the saw with left. (5:11 is one example) And visa versa, the way you do it some times is a accident waiting to happen.

Nope, the inspector has been cool about it. He said two key things. First, the job of the inspector is to protect the home owner from the builder. Since I am both, I should welcome the help. Second, he has no idea how a house like this should be built. The best the inspector can do in this situation is make sure that I build it according to the Engineered plan. So, he has no idea how much rebar is appropriate for an earth sheltered roof, but if the engineer said it should be #4 rebar every 12 inches, then that is what he should find when he inspects... Again, I welcome the help. Actually, that first inspector has since retired (it tends to be a job for almost retired builders) and we have had a couple others each put in a year. The new ones always joke about how much longer our inspection sheet is than normal. So far, they have all been good to work with.

It’s exciting to watch your dream home come to life. You’re children will have a home for there grandchildren from what I see. I’m in construction and my only worries about a build of this nature is authority having jurisdiction with a ego. Thank you 🙏

I just seem to remember there being some questions of need,for usefulness when it was installed. I think it has earned its place in the construction process. At the time I was thinking that is going real handy during the build.

Looking good just one question that round window frame you formed up and installed looked like that I-beam ran through the bottom , you might have some trouble installing the window with a piece of steel in the way 'just sayin" . Great job guys every step is a step forward .

It isn't an Ibeam, but I did put a temporary wood beam thru there. This whole thing needs to hold up against the shotcrete impacting it, so that extra bracing is good. After we shot the wall, I cut it out.

What brand of galvanized steel studs did you use? They look perfect for light weight applications.

They are MarinoWare studs. www.marinoware.com/product/studrite/ The stamped out truss shape makes them lighter and much stronger. They also conduct heat much less than a regular stud. I also liked how easy it is to run rebar or electrical conduit or plumbing thru the holes. As for the galvanizing... I bought those Studs years ago and they have been sitting outside in all weather, even now, the ones left on my scrap pile have no rust at all. The only catch is that you can't just pick them up at the hardware store, you need to order them to length. But if you are planning a house, you should be organized enough to do that.
