Hello sir. I am not sure if you will have time to read or respond to this, but I am looking to purchase a new Dorsey Aluminum Giant, but I don't see a lot on the road. How is yours holding up, and would you purchase it again if you had to go back? Thank you

Hey dan for twenty seven years Ive owned aluminum trailers,,, I made up 8’ - two by four with two steel hooks, to hang on the scrub rail when loading or unloading. If you have big forklift hit your rail you can’t straighten rail to look right. Just hang the board on side. Have had people say that a good idea. Sure is handy. If it breaks easy to make up a new one .

needs rubber skirt in front of axles suspension to stop road grit pitting the galvanized suspension and limit the salt spray corrosion in winter

Thought the same, needs skirts/mud flaps anywhere and everywhere around the tires. Up front in front of the landing gear even for spray from the truck tires. Might look silly but it all helps preserve the beauty.

Yea big rubber Matt kind of the same at what's used in horse barn stalls.. that's what I got with a polished stainless 10 gauge plate at the bottom facing front looks great

@@holdencolonycarriers9817 We've used rubber mats straight outta the barn before lol Can cut them to fit and drill your own holes and they hold up way longer than the thin rubber ones they usually sell for to high a price.

Inside my horse trailer on the lowers wall is 1/2" versus 3/4" stall mats on the floor. I do have regular stall mats throughout the barn (Best investment ever). I can get the 1/2" at a local rubber supplier.

A really nice piece of equipment. Here in the UK there is very little flat trailer work these days. we call it "rope and sheet" we have no winches just hooks under the trailer,and the tarpaulins are roped over, to form part of the load securing.Those J hooks are a great idea. here, chains are often passed under the chassis of the trailer and over the load! safe journey's Sir.

I like how your winches goes all the way to back of trailer, so you minimize using 2 inch straps. At Maverick 80% of the trailers we use are Reitnouer and stop in front of 2nd trailer axle. Very Cool setup.

Signal lights on the side middle of the trailer are flat and only visible when you look right at them,would it not be a good idea to have bubble lights ,so you could also see them from an angle?

Great video as always. Dorsey needs to do some weld training... A few of those welds I'd be ashamed to put a product out with those... I'm sure it'll give you many years of good service tho!

I worked there for 4 years. I did the all aluminum trailers for about a week until I moved onto another another job. I did the all steel flats, mostly drop decks, and I agree with the weld training comment. They would literally hire people off the street no experience and as soon as they could run a straight bead they would throw them out on the line. Little to no proper training, anyone can be a trigger holder but not everyone can be a welder.

Need to wire the lift axle into the cab too, you'll find it much easier if you need to drop it real quick to make a hard turned and exhaust rear axle, found it easy when empty in the city for making turn then when you hit the big road instead of pulling over and doing it manually you just hit a switch and keep rolling

Hey Dan, you ought to consider get a headache rack cargo storage cabinet, similar to what TMC sets their trucks up with. I keep 2 lumber tarps, 2 steel tarps 20 4" straps and 8 2" straps and ratchets. Plus 10 chains and 10 binders in mine. It would keep your tarps and chains out of the elements and they look great to boot. Love the videos and congrats on the new trailer.

Sir Dan !! With steel or stainless bolts in aluminum ,, they will seize,,therefore you should get aluminum ""NEVERSEIZE"" & redo the bolts while you can get them out to prevent having to drill them out when they break off trying to get them out again like the plug you put in & the license plate bolts !! ONLY MY OPINION as sure you know what is stated !!! Prevention is a must !!! NICE looking trailer & hope you get all good loads for it with this ""CRAP"" going around !!! ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!!

Hey Dan watch the Dorsey boxs, the locks inside will tear up tarp and pads. The handles will pop down if you dont lock them. Love my Dorsey.

Dorsey is from Elba Alabama. They use to be a large dry van manufacture up until the late 90s. They almost went out of business when companies started switching to composite plate trailers and UPS favored Stoughton for new trailers. They spent a few years doing occasional rebuilds and conversions for the wood chip industry plus the occasional container chassis. A few years ago they started building flatbeds and have come back into the industry really strong. Dorsey has been around almost as long as Great Dane.

Nice looking gear the new trailer. Good idea the extra ribs for hauling coil. That should be strong enough to fit another rack or storage box for your extra gear .Very well engineered by all appearances and matches up well with the Peterbilt.
