Why is there no "TV SHOW" available for people to see these beautiful & monstrous engines being built & run because it is almost as nice as a religious experience to see this motor assembled, and fired up. Truly, there is nothing even close to the magnificence of these Hemi motors. The sheer size, the shape, the "ARTISTIC" perfection of the Hemi....is truly life altering. If you don't see this, or get this......you are in pre-stages of Alzheimer's. You have nothing going for you....if you don't have this thought. The HEMI......in all its glory. No one should even talk about other engines while this monster exists.

Chrysler started production of Hemi V8 engines in 1951 with 331 cubic inches, 1958 was the last year of the "early" hemi engines for Chrysler, Dodge, and Desoto. The 1955 Chrysler 300 was named such because it was the first domestic production car to have 300 horsepower. The 1956 Chrysler 300 had a 354" Hemi rated at 355 horsepower being the first production car to have over 1 horsepower per cubic inch. To overlook these engines by saying Hemi production started in 1958 really discounts your knowledge!

Hemi piston tops have to be domed on racing engines to match the hemi shape of the combustion chambers, making them heavy...
@ThePaulv12
@ThePaulv12 5 жыл бұрын
@@BuzzLOLOL Yeah but high piston weight doesn't stop them revving up is what he's saying. You'd think it would but it doesn't seem to. Even a low 9:1 compression piston in a Hemi has a fairly big dome. These days, they're making strokers that you would think increase the piston speed and reduce rpm, but the longer stroke allows forged pistons only 60% the weight of aftermarket forged pistons using the stock stroke so they still rev about the same. They move the pin closer to the dome and the overall height of the piston is greatly reduced, but they are still not 'shorty' pistons. I read an article awhile back and it talked about Mopar RB blocks and how they could've kept the B engine deck height and moved the pin in the piston. With the B engine they reasoned a slightly longer rod to offset its too heavy piston. Nicks Garage (KZbin) had a fairly mild 505 Hemi make about 630 hp at around 6500 rpm. IIRC I think 505 is 4.125" stroke combined with a standard sized bore and when combined with a 4.5" bore aftermarket block makes the 528 Hemi which was a Mopar Performance crate motor for awhile that made 600hp, 600ft/lbs @ 6000rpm (all the 6s) on a low 9:1 comp! Some of these low deck Wedge engine strokers are getting seriously light pistons and rev up like a small block even though though they're 500+ cubes.

@ThePaulv12
@ThePaulv12 7 жыл бұрын
Big frank because a solid lifter flat tappet cam (as opposed to a hydraulic flat tappet) is superior RPM wise. Hydraulics become unreliable after 6500RPM whether roller or not. Since sollid rollers hate idling - which rules them out for street use, then for your high revving Hemi an old school solid lifter with a modern grind is a superb choice.

The Early, small cam'd 65 model made 474hp@6000rpm /474tq @4400rpms - gross or 390hp/461TQ for todays standard rating. The 68-71 made more HP with their large cams. @@TheSleepyMechanic0524 GHOST: Wrong--the 425 hp was the old pre-72 rating with no air cleaner, muffler, belts, or smog gear. After 1971 ALL cars are rated at SAE-NET. as installed in the car. Thus the 426 hemi is really 350 horsepower, less than the 2019 V-8 5.7 at 375. The 440-6 pack is not 395 hp, but 325...the 440 375 hp version is really 305 hp, no more than a common 2019 V-6 engine. A 2019 Ford Mustang with 4 cylinder 310 hp ecoboost has more power then a 1970 Dodge with 440-6. FACT

Eagle rods...are you guys out of your minds? I wouldnt use an eagle product in my lawn mower and I wont even let an Eagle product on my property. There are cheap parts and then there is Eagle products...that qualify to be located in the basement...which is way under the bottom shelf. An engine like this deserves Manley Pro or Carrillo rods along with JE pistons and file fit Total Seal rings. Nice video here, but very disappointed in your choices of parts.

I lived during the era of these cars doing well. These motors failed constantly, were extremely costly and used to get killed by cheaper mainstream wedge motors. Yes, you want to go billet aluminum, it might be a good way to go. However, this motor design will get killed by multi valve OHC engines.

A stock 2019 6.4 SRT 485 horsepower is more potent and quicker. In order for that 426 to beat the SRT it would have to show 650 SAEGROSS on the dyno to beat the 485 hp SAENET SRT. Do you even understand the difference between SAE GROSS and SAE NET? All cars after 1972 are rated SAE NET. If it says 500 on nthe dyno you are getting 430/440 in the car.

@ThePaulv12

231mac Well I have actually. I well understand that OEM Hemis already have premium cranks in them. I also understand that new 8 bolt cranks for Hemis in the range of ~ $1000 - $1500 from China are vastly superior to the originals esp in mettalurgy. For the street there is no reason to run a top $$$ crank and reconditioning a fatigued 40yo OEM crank is not anything I'd want to spend my money on. With respect, and I mean that sincerely, just because you say China stuff is shit doesn't necessarily make it so. To say all stuff made in China is crap is ridiculous.
@231mac
@231mac 7 жыл бұрын
Then you should know that, especially with Eagle cranks, 1 out of, I'd say, 8 needs to be re-ground. And China is well known to use inferior casting methods. I mean, sure build a 302 or 350 with them, but a true Hemi?? And the materials and forging methods of the OEM Hemi cranks are not vastly inferior, even to todays standards. They were insanely well built, as were the rods, but the rods are extremely heavy. Now the block machining.... could have been better.
@ThePaulv12
@ThePaulv12 7 жыл бұрын
Well, let me say re Eagle cranks needing to be reground, I'd say I agree with you. Another example is, even the highest quality cylinder heads on the market today need total disassembly. Many heads in the $3500+ range whether made in the US or China have been found with tight guides and non concentric valve seats. Almost all after market cylinder blocks leave a lot to be desired in the area of square decks, decks parallel with the crank centreline and the crank tunnel. It is not unusual to have to spend $800-$1200 on almost any block out there. You can't just screw them together and hope it'll be OK. Tell me then why would a crankshaft be any different? Also, I read somewhere recently that a cheapish stroker Hemi crank (in the range of $1000USD) is at least 100% stronger than the original OEM crank. That is considering the premium nature of the OEM unit too and not comparing a stock 440 forged crank (since 440 cranks fit Hemis and vice versa). Also worthy of consideration is the fatigue life of a 40+yo crank as mentioned. The stock cranks were some of the best in the business in their time, but their unit cost was probably nowhere near as expensive as even a $1000 crankshaft. You have to ask why. Volume is one part of it I suppose but Hemis were low[ish] volume engines anyhow and even allowing for 40 years difference in cost of living increases I doubt the cost was as expensive as an adjusted $1000-$1500. Chinese metalurgy in name brand cranks is good. Modern consistency is far better than 40 years ago - even considering Chinese quality control concerns. Many companies apply rigorous testing for quality assurance, but it is worth noting in some ways your arguement is valid, but perhaps ~ 10-15% better consistency in US made billets and machining. In other ways it isn't worth getting overly concerned about any of this because consistency issues occur all the time in human affairs - not just China. Companies do go out of business when quality control effects their products, but don't forget even Chrysler had big trouble with bearing caps in some Street Hemis back in the day. It seems Eagle are on top of their quality control. Some of their stuff may fail, but OEM stuff fails too. MB and their transmissions, Nissan and their appalling 3.0l TDI are a couple that come to mind. Some things are just not worth worrying about. I'd put an Eagle crank and rods in my Hemi. In fact I have an Idea - I'd like to get a 4.500" bore aftermarket Hemi block and get a 383 stroke crank made for it. The shorter stroke allows for an even longer connecting rod. The capacity stays almost the same as 426 too, but you get a shorter stroke. With a solid lifter cam and ~ .550" lift I wonder how it would go on the street. I reckon it'd be a lot of fun in an A body with a manual tranny and light flywheel.
@231mac
@231mac 7 жыл бұрын
I was never saying to run the OEM crank. Especially due to its age, as you mentioned. But, a Chinese crank that's known to have issues?? Why not a Callies or Crower? My whole point is, why go cheap on such an awesome engine? And that's the whole problem I have with this build, is the guy just plain went cheap. It's like building a house with plastic nails in my eyes, lol
