When people say they find the original trilogy boring, they're not talking about the first five minutes of episode 4. They're talking about the third of episode 4 spent wandering around a desert, or the large chunk of episode 6 spent on Endor. They're also comparing it to other Sci-fi franchises in terms of setting. You have a desert planet, an ice planet, TWO forest planets, a swamp planet, and cloud city. Only one of those locations was actually interesting. The argument that people who find it boring just can't watch old movies is definitely wrong. I recently watched close encounters of the third kind with a group that couldn't get past obi-wan giving Luke the lightsaber, and the response was not at all the same.
