That was excellent. Thank you. I have a new board that would not post (returned for new copy and the system then worked fine with new board), however when I returned it they would not refund due to 'bent pins'. The bent pins happened when we remove the cpu. I was teaching my son how to build his system. I explained to the supplier that the board would not post. Even without a CPU on there it should post to "No CPU found". It would only post if I held pressure on the board at various spots leading me to believe there was a loose connection somewhere in the board. Have you seen such issues? Mike

I have seen such issues but not on the new board. It might have been damaged in shipping. You can send it in for free socket replacement but the probability of getting it to work is low.

A good indicator to see if the socket was soldered properly you can check the data lines off the DDR chanels and also off the PCIE. I am sure you are familiar with the cheap testers, that are available from aliexpress, but hey work quiet fine!

Even professional services with expensive IR BGA rework stations refuse this type of service. Large PCBs are very prone to bending or warping. But good luck, practice makes perfect

good to hear, I might just specialize in this then, less competition :)

You must do a very careful visual inspection around the CPU socket and on the back side of it for missing components (caps, resistors) or shorted ones. I do have very often such cases of knocked out components or others that were hit with screwdrivers and got shorted. Especially after the socket replacement and the high temperatures exposed for half an hour, a visual inspection is a must. Good job with the socket though.
@blackhorserepairs4 ай бұрын
it's a lot more than 30 minutes of high temperature exposure, first I have to remove the socket so that's 30 minutes there, then clean the pads so sometimes 45 minutes of high heat and corrosive flux, then half an hour for replacement. So yeah, there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong, it's hot and the room becomes uninhabitable for at least an hour after the job is done. Considering those conditions I can well believe some technicians drop the socket or a screwdriver on the board. That's the whole reason I'm doing it in the first place, it's just plainly hard and time consuming. Challenging to do right and without any damage.

@@blackhorserepairs I was talking for the no CPU core condition. It could be as simple as a missing resistor or a shorted cap. I do often have accidents, especially with crowded bench or small space.
@blackhorserepairs4 ай бұрын
@@nikolaskallianiotis8622 yep, crowded bench especially, I think we all struggle with that :)

hey , i was wondering how did you created that top nozzle with a "soda can" , is there any guide or it is an simple thing to do?
@blackhorserepairs23 күн бұрын
I would say it's pretty simple, I described it in one of my videos, all you need are scissors, large soda can and zip ties. I also added the steel angle brackets to make it square but it's not necessary. You can also order those nozzles from aliexpress. I haven't tested them myself since I switched to IR shortly after I got them, but I would think they work better than soda can :)

Hello, are you not worried about popping the caps next to the socket? I don't seen any protection on them?
@blackhorserepairsАй бұрын
not so much with hot air, more so with IR,. Now I put aluminum foil on the caps (after I exploded a few)

hello i got a J-8280 PREHEATER and a lukey smd atation will it remove the socket and what top and bottom temp u using? tu in advance
@blackhorserepairs5 күн бұрын
set the heater to heat up the top of the board to about 150C. Start blowing with 260C from the top, if it doesn't let lose keep increasing to about 280-290, probably don't go above 290 but all depends on the tool you use. Use slow air flow. The nozzle must cover the entire socket and be very low. Let me know how it went. Good luck!

oh, the socket is good, the reason it doesn't work is because there's no VCORE, but without boardview I can't really do much with it

I would simply buy a new motherboard instead of doing this BS. They are cheap and it’s a waste of time for me AND what I don’t understand is: in which case do i have to replace the CPU socket ??? Have still fun 👍
@blackhorserepairsАй бұрын
Great question my friend. Some boards go for over $1000 and all that is wrong with them is a busted socket. It makes perfect sense to invest $10 socket and about an hour of work to fix them.
@GortPredatorАй бұрын
New lga motherboards are not cheap. $200-$400 on average. If that's cheap to you then I have some items to sell to you.
