the imposing castle at Lancaster (5:55) is where in 1612 the witches of pendle were held. many were executed as have been many others over the years with the castle becoming a prison. i only visit Lancaster rarely for part of my work but i was given a visit to the cold underground cell within the prison where the witches were held and a big brass ring in the stone floor where they were shackled then a well that they were dunked into until they confessed. i was also told that some prisoners due for execution over the years were taken by wagon into town and given a sort of last drink of ale before the rope. ehen asked by the bartender if he would like another drink they were told 'he can't ..he's on the wagon' they claim that is where that phrase of not drinking 'i'm on the wagon' came from. cheers mate enjoyed the video,
