I LOVE my 2018 STI. But like a broken record, I wish it would’ve evolved more. When the STI came out in ‘04 300 HP was a big number for the price. An ‘04 mustang GT had 260hp. However, the 2020 mustang GT has 460 hp, it’s had a 200 hp bump in 16 years. The STI went from 296 to 310 In the last 16 years. I really like my car and it super fun and engaging to drive through the twisties. Love the manual trans and hydraulic steering and awesome brakes. But the STI used to be fast, and it’s not fast anymore. I have high hopes for the 2021 though.

Yes. The answer is yes. I built my subaru in my garage with my dad... STI swapped an 02 and made it the single most obnoxious turbo-laggy loudmouth it could be. I love that car and I can say that it was worth every second I spent on it. The STI is a wonderful platform and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a cool japanese platform with a ton of support and an awesome community. Edit: My patterson car care foam cannon arrived and can confirm I am LOVING it.

@@skippychompy916 There is someone out there already making 500 HP on an FA24 from the Ascent. Did over 50 dyno pulls with no issues on all stock internals. If the STI engine has upgraded internals over the Ascent, different cams, and a different turbo, it could absolutely make 350-400HP in stock trim. Hopefully reliably. We'll see!

My son in law had a 2015 STi that had been built with COBB parts. Even at idle it sounded like it was pissed off. I rode with him several times. I drove it once and if you pushed on the go pedal at all, you couldn't row the gears fast enough to stay off the rev limiter. The thing was dangerous, but a blast to drive.

I had a plasma blue 2011 limited subaru STI. I like the rear fenders better than my 17 limited STI. My 2011 had a factory option that i thought was unusual, DVD player, i used it once for half an hour while sitting in the garage. On Monday i almost traded in for the series white sti but turns out that one comes in base trim. So i decided to keep it and make an appointment on this monday for a new COBB exhaust. Ive had 2.5 years of SPT drone so looking forward to great sound and quieter cabin.

Finally a correct built STI. I think too many people go for big power in Subaru's vs building a well balanced car for carving back roads. Its a rally car and they are best when built for that style of driving IMO. 0-100-0 cars that can turn are just a blast to drive. Sure it wont win a roll race on a highway but not much beats the joy of winding a car out in the mountains in my book

Great set-up. Nice to see someone who believes in functionality over performance. 👍 Take the 86/BRZ. It is not an underpowered car. It was designed with the power it has for a reason. Those who say it needs more power, are those who can’t push the car in stock form. Having more power doesn’t make you a better driver. Just like putting an optic on your rifle over iron sights doesn’t make you a better shooter.

I love the new FA engine and want to see it in an sti so I think I'll be patient and wait. Plus I needed reliable practical transportation and something to carry tools so I got a truck. @Cobradaddy
@Cobradaddy 4 жыл бұрын
@@imdabeast100 The ''need'' is not what it's about, it's about power and consistent power. You can get a extra 10-15 hp from a intercooler change, in any form, but, if you know these cars then you know where the turbo sits. Turbos make heat and bigger ones make more heat. Taking the intercooler from under the hood and putting it in the front will almost eliminate all heat soak. Your car will be able to keep making that HP as you drive instead of losing it to the heat. That being said, I prefer the top mount, and will probably just upgrade that instead of going front mount.

I’ve seen STi’s go 50,000 miles at 400whp on stock internals. Is that crazy? Not necessarily but it goes to show it is possible if you actually take care of the car properly and don’t beat the shit out of it constantly
@MrDjvas
@MrDjvas 4 жыл бұрын
How often do you use that 400 though? I know a guy with a stage 1 iag block in a 2005 STI with a 3.5 dom turbo pushing 600WHP with e85 and to be honest hes at 67k on the current block BUT he barely uses that 600whp only when he feels like it, which is like 3 times a month. The rest of the time hes just cruising. He also does 100 miles a day too. I'm just curious because I have an 04 sti and I bought a stage 2 block from iag because I had planned at one point to push 450whp on 93 and wanted to be somewhat safe about it.
@cokemachine62590
@cokemachine62590 4 жыл бұрын
MrDjvas People chase hp numbers just for bragging rights really. You’re right, a lot of the time people rarely use their hp. Once you get to a certain level of fast, the only place you can use your car to its true potential is at a track. So unless you have a track nearby that you plan on visiting often and don’t want to risk trouble with law enforcement, funneling money into making your car faster is not really worth it.

Yohan lo that’s like getting upset if a 2jz or k series motor goes kaput before the 200k mark. More often than not they’re long lasting/reliable but every so often you get an outlier. Modified turbocharged Subarus are the opposite. If you spend enough time in the community, you’ll see guys who drop 25k+ into these builds and put them up for sale before they’re barely broken in. Why? Ticking time bombs.

There's ones out there running 400-430whp on the stock motor... but the cast pistons are a bit weak from factory, so if your tune is shit they don't hold up long. Boxer engines are sensitive to AFRs so a good tune and regular maintaince are a must if you want the stock components to last as long as possible. Most people suck with Subarus and don't know what they're doing when it comes to mods or tuning..
