Thanks Leland, for revisiting some of songs of the amazing Steve Lukather. He’s such a humble, great talent and all around great guy. I always get a bit choked up listening to his song, “The Letting Go.” It felt to me, like he was writing about the dissolution of his 2nd marriage during that point in time.... and my realization of just how difficult it must’ve been to be a rock legend, on the road constantly touring, recording & performing so many days out of the year, not being able to be with his family. It seems pretty close to impossible to successfully juggle all those aspects of life and still come out the other end unscathed by the balancing act. It hurts my heart, really. But he has a lot to be thankful for and I know that he is. He loves his kids and is so appreciative of all that life has offered him. He says it all the time! It was great to listen to some of his songs once again! I hope his new album does well. ❤️ Stay safe....hopefully you won’t feel the 10-12 hours after-effects of that Moderna vaccine, people who received it talk about! 🙏😘

I can’t wait for the day when “Airplay” equals “Good Music” again. So much great music is never heard. So many talented people bypassed because they don’t fall into a trendy slot. First Leland thanks for your channel you are in a class by yourself, the music you have played on is the soundtrack of my life and I get to relive it with every video. Sadly Luke has never got the respect he deserves as being one of our generations finest guitarist and musician he is a chameleon that has made some of the greatest pop songs memorably because of him knowing when and when not to play, he is the total package he can sing, write and play. I think one of his greatest solo's is Lionel Ritchie's Running With the Night the album track not the single, it's 2 minutes of pure bliss at the end of the song that he made up on the spot as he did with most of his studio work. Luke is and will always be Number 1 in my book.
@MissJensk13 жыл бұрын
@Michael Collums Luks said that he was "just noodling" working out his solo on that song, then he said okay I'm ready, the producer said, nope, we've got it! So his "noodling" is what ended up on the record!

Luke has an amazing tone! He basically defined the 80's wet/dry/wet guitar tone. His sound is as legendary as Eric Johnson, David Gilmour, Hendrix, Eddie, and S.R.V.!
@nikkivenable37003 жыл бұрын
What is wet, dry, wet guitar tone? Inquiring minds want to know.
@brettmarlar41543 жыл бұрын
@@nikkivenable3700 In the 80's the hip thing for guitarists to do (besides having an enormous rack of studio effects to recreate their studio sound) was to run in stereo. So in order to do this you needed to split your mono guitar signal. Of course you could just have an A/B/Y box that would send the signal to two different amps that could be switched on independently or both at once, but to have a fully immersive, more three dimensional sound you would split it three ways an have one go the right, one to the left, and one up the middle. Now to make things interesting, the middle channel is basically your guitar directly into the amp type of sound. Perhaps an overdrive or distortion box or your wah wah pedal will also go in that channel as those are part of the fundamental tonality of the sound. Now on the right and left sides of the overall sound is where your delay, reverb, and stereo modulation effects will go. These are known as "wet" effects as the color the sound of the fundamental tone. Delay is an echo effect that repeats everything that is played. Reverb creates the illusion that the instrument is being played in a much larger space than it is. Modulation effects (most commonly chorus, flange, and phase) add a secondary note to what is being played. The effect to which can range from doppler type of sounds to creating the illusion that the speaker us under water. Hence the term "wet", and the fundamental tone sounds as being "dry". This gives us from left to right wet/dry/wet. Luke was one of the first to truly embrace and even pioneer this approach to making guitar sounds. This excessive approach fit in perfectly with this decade as it was the decade of excess. I hope that answers your question with as little confusion as possible.
@nikkivenable37003 жыл бұрын
@@brettmarlar4154 Wow! I am kind of amazed at this information. I know all about a piano but nothing about guitar, esp electric guitar. Lukather is the most incredible person and musician and in my Top 5 musicians of all time(in rock/pop). I could listen to that man play and sing all day, every day. The description you gave is super interesting and I'll need to read it a few times to "get" it. It all makes sense, but I want to really understand it. People talk about his playing all the time...like, he's one of the greats. Obviously, the guy can play technically, but I had no idea he used the wet/dry/wet approach and that he possibly was the first to do so. THANK YOU so much for explaining this so well! I really appreciate it!

Years ago I was playing in Spokane during the winter. I went skiing up on Mount Spokane one day. The fog on the mountain was so dense you couldn’t even see your feet. I kept falling down when all of a sudden this old guy flies past me and stops. He asked if I was OK. He said I’ll get you down the mountain. I asked him where did you learn to ski like that? He said He was in the 10th mountain division during WWII. We used to ski down on the German soldiers in the back country. I used to love running into interesting people when I was on the road. This was one I never forgot.

Lately I came across a video of Carol Kaye who is another incredible experienced and skilled musician too. It is unbelievable how much we all can learn from all of you. I do not know if you are reading all the comments, however, if possible can you please tell Luke my deepest gratefulness for his album "Candy Man" which helped me soooo much in the 90ies to get over the loss of two of my band members (both died of a brain tumor 27 and 33). Anyway, I just tried to express how much his music meant to me. However, God bless you all and please stay healthy many more years! Thank you!
