We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls 😊 The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

I’m with you on plaster, the big wall inside remaining as exposed stone will be plenty of accent. If all you see is stone on the inside, you won’t want to look at the stone on the outside. I’ve heard similar expressed by log home owners locally…”you get enough of only seeing logs”.

It made me giggle when you presented the tools, as though any of us watching are going to be smooth coating our walls. I’m in bed, drinking coffee, and enjoying your Sunday post. Good job…it’s going to be stunning.❤️

I can’t imagine why people think you should leave the stone walls uncovered. The feature wall really is the way to go . You can have too much of a good thing .the plastering is very classic and you’ve done it beautifully. What fresh bright rooms .

Maybe they have never stayed or lived in a stone house with no insulation...or paid the heating bills in an attempt to keep such a house warm. The use of natural insulation products & technology is a game changer in renovating old homes.

I agree with saying too much of anything is too much. It would be so dark in there with it being just all Stone. Using it as an accent wall is absolutely beautiful not to mention without insulating it it would be a nightmare when it gets cold out. It's beautiful and yours are doing a great job. Really enjoy watching the transformation and I love that you saved an old building

Ι completely agree with what you did. Too much stone wall (as too much wooden wall) becomes messy and tiring to the eye AND is hard to keep it clean from dust and insects. Keeping one wall per room in it's original state is the way to go... reminding the initial construction of the house. We don't live in medieval castles anymore.

The people who want to see all the interior stonework uncovered (including the cold external walls) have never lived in a cold damp stone house before… We have a 250 year old stone Welsh cottage and I simply cannot WAIT to get our insulating, moisture buffering hemp lime render / plaster blanketing the interior of the building from floor to ceiling. 3 cold clammy winters is enough for us!
Second and final coat of hemp and lime thermo-plaster 😍
