I had that same issue on mine for a long time after attempting everything in this video plus change the governor solenoid to an upgraded gm solenoid. What really fixed it was that I took off the whole valve body off and dissembled and cleaned it. I found a lot of the debris inside cleaned it and assembled everything back and fixed the issue on mine. This can be challenging because it has many small parts but it can be done with patience.

I have this issue as well, had my transmission built twice. One shop said it was ground issues, that the transmission was gear hunting. Kept all the grounds cleaned helped a little bit. Second rebuild was a full upgrade, which the torque converter was shot this time. They told me make sure that I have everything far as breaks and bearings working smoothly, because any resistance may cause drag and the pressure governor will had a hard time making transmission shift
@AllThingsBoost Жыл бұрын
Good to know. I found my particular issue was the TV cable being too short because a bracket was on wrong. Getting a built trans is eventually the go to though
@TheHyde8875Ай бұрын
They're feeding you full of crap for a poorly built trans.
@markrich32712 жыл бұрын
Your throttle valve cable along with the throttle valve its self controls up shifts . You can find charts on line showing you how to adjust properly. Sonax makes a updated throttle valve that helps restore vacuum to the bore. One is a drop in and the other needs a reamer if it's really bad. Ypu also get springs and washers to adjust your shift points. A transgo shift kit is a must for any cummins owner .
@AllThingsBoost2 жыл бұрын
Yep. When I did a built trans I found the root cause to the shifting was the TV cable bracket on the trans was backwards, making it get stretched about an extra half inch.
@markrich32712 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsBoost That's great to hear. Our transmission are great when properly maintained. The amount of power they can take is amazing. I know for me when I was a young man transmission were a sort of a black art. They only way to understand them is to do how you did a just work on them. I'm happy you found your issue and corrected it. I love my second gen 24v.
@BiffsEquipment3 жыл бұрын
You may want to also adjust your TV cable if problem persists.. if the cable is out of adjustment line pressure will be off And it would require you to let out of the throttle to shift so def check that
@AllThingsBoost3 жыл бұрын
That's what it wound up being. When I swapped transmissions I found the bracket that holds the TV cable was backwards, spacing it out about an extra half inch making the trans think it was always under throttle
@BiffsEquipment3 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsBoost damn, well I’m glad you figured it out man. Soon as you said when you let out it shifted and it did the same for both 1-2 and 2-3 I instaintly said “sounds like the tv cable is showing too much pressure to the VB which is why the Rpms are going so high before it shifts” if it only did that in one gear I wouldn’t have thought that but because on your test drive it did the same thing for every gear it made me think that. Great video none the less! I just had to fix my truck yesterday, I was getting super low line pressure and it ended up being a clogged filter because of a brand new Tripple disk I installed about a month or so ago.. lots of break in material from the brand new Tripple disk and I didn’t know that when you install a new converter you want to swap the filter for a new one after a week or so of driving. Yesterday I was looking for a possible solution your video popped up and that’s how I wound up here lol.

cable kick dwn. adjusts when to shift, early or late, bands is the shift smoothness or toughness, tighter bands and itl shift hard, looser bands will give you smoother shifts, too loose iy will slip, too tight it will hold back and shift hard up or down🤠👍

I ordered a Suncoast Diesel stage 3 rebuild kit for mine, comes with all the clutches, steels, etc and a billet input shaft, billet flexplate, and billet triple disk convertor. Have you thought about installing a shift kit in yours? I also bought the Transgo shift kit for mine to get the most out of it. One thing I would suggest is a Mag Hytec transmission pan if for nothing else it makes draining the fluid much easier. Great video!

Well, actually it's fixed now. I haven't made a video on it yet, but my TV cable was too short. Even at its maximum adjusted length it was still putting too much pressure to the trans. I temporarily used zip ties to make it about half an inch longer and it shifts perfectly now. I need to either replace the cable or come up with a more permanent way to make it longer.
