I think the iPad mini would be helpful for journaling and reading books. I also think it would be very beneficial for planning since it is a smaller screen. It would also be nice to take it to places on the go and not having to carry around a bigger iPad.

I use my (older, but quite similar) iPad mini for traveling. Great for watching movies on a plane, listening to music with my wireless Bose headphones and so on. When you snapped those photos (near the end) did you have it on HD? I think you can get even sharper photos and video, 1080p. Anyway, a perfect little companion, seeing as a phone is really to small for movies and a lot of other things.
