Built this tool today - worked great. I did have to use the bench vice just to "break" the bolt first since it was torqued down....but the DIY tool worked perfectly. I also had to make a thin wrench. I'll have to get the correct socket to torque it down.

Wish I had seen this video before I had tried to use two clamps & a piece of wood tonight. It was easy to get the nut off but releasing the tension with the clamps was another deal. the clamps started to shift when I tried releasing the tension. Ended up having to letting the clutch plate and spring fly across the yard rather than punch a hole in the ceiling or my face.

Wow awesome, great, & fantastic, its simple ant easy way to compress the clutch with a simple tool for disassembly.....you give me a big idea and i got some long stud bolt here with nuts and washer in my garage, then fabricate a PVC end cup or any cylindrical metal in order to compress the clutch...thanks a lot for the technical guide...
@ludditeneaderthal6 жыл бұрын
sweet little set up! only thing i'd change would be once the spring is totally relaxed, unscrew the BOTTOM nut with only a half inch of twisting to remove, rather than the half mile up top, lol. then reassembly is just screwing that bottom stack until you feel takeup on the spring and full compression with the pipe cap side nut. maybe an inch and a half of twisting total in the "no load" state. but aside from that neurotic critique (yes, i admit it freely, lol) a fairly ingenious, and way cheap solution. your vids are all pretty damned good so far, informative, well staged and shot, and just enough monologue to get the point across. you have an impressed new subscriber!

Yeah. The TMAX has spots for bolts to thread into the rear pulley to push it open so you can create slack for the belt install because holding it open by hand is very difficult.

Compressed the plate tight to my shoes. That being said its a good simple idea. For 50cc clutch I would consider smaller cap that sits on the raised part of the clutch closer to the nut in hopes it doesn't compress the plate tight to the shoes. If the clutch nut has never been cracked you may not be able to finger it off. I had to try another method that is on youtube as "EASY clutch nut removal". Take a large adjustable wrench, place on nut, hold clutch and wrench tightly together, then bang butt end of wrench against hard ground to crack the nut and get it turning. After about 1 turn you are able to finger it off. Make sure you have a reference mark on nut and clutch to indicate starting point. My nut turned exactly 3 times off. To replace I reversed procedure. $$ After watching the video a 5th time I see 49ccScoot mentions Everything I said in the beginning of the video. I just didn't catch it at first or fifth time.

Could you not simply use a couple big C clamps, loosen the nut, and slowly unscrew 2 or 3 C claps that were holding it in place during loosening?

I'd recommend an extra nut to lock one end of the bar. Otherwise you're holding on to bar and nut. I've been there when making my own device.

Just a note, on the nuts on the bottom you will want two nuts to jam them together, because if the bottom nut were to loosen too far it will release all that pressure very quickly and can hurt your parts and/or more importantly yourself. Nice tool though other than that!

Tough time finding a (2" Schedule 40 White PVC Threaded Cap) Where did you get yours? on Amazon?
@49ccscoot Жыл бұрын
I just walked into the local hardware store and picked one up. Wouldn't have to be exactly that. If you wanted to go heavy duty, sawzall a black iron pipe cap. Prob quite a bit of stuff could be adapted. Carry your pulley along if need be and test in store to see what fits. Sometimes hardware store employees can be quite helpful too and know what they have on hand that could work.

I would suggest either a nylock nut or a jam nut on the bottom. If the all thread turns instead of the top nut it could be dangerous.

I agree. I just keep an eye on it, but your ideas would be a nice addition.

Did Harder contra spring affect fuel economy?
@49ccscoot11 ай бұрын
It can. I'm not sure how much you'd notice anything solely from the increase in force needed, but if you change around RPM with the spring or weights it can affect fuel economy.

Why torque the big nut?Is it even possible? Surely the torque is determined solely by the strength of main spring pushing back. Perhaps the torque setting on the wrench is just to measure how strong the spring is and not to sctually tighten the nut?
@49ccscoot2 жыл бұрын
It will bottom out. The spring is not holding the cap off of the base.

If I attach the motor on the rear wheel of scooty from other side of cvt. Cvt will rotate or not ? Power goes to crankshaft of engine or not?
@49ccscoot7 жыл бұрын
If you spin the rear wheel, the clutch bell with rotate. It will not engage with the rear pulley, because the clutch that's attached to the rear pulley needs to spin fast enough for the spring tension to be overcome and allow the pads to contact the bell. This isn't going to happen, because you aren't spinning the clutch, just the bell by driving the rear tire. You would have to link the bell to the rear pulley. Even then, I'm not sure how well it's gonna drive the engine through the CVT.

TO ALL VIEWERS. Just found a way to remove clutch nut. Large crescent or open-end. Large channel-locks. Grab the clutch backing plate, ( holding the shoes), with the channel-locks. Then use the wrench to loosen the nut. Walah! Don`t try to grab the pulleys, as you can warp them. The clutch backing plate is very strong, and can handle it. Can cinch it up real good.

im suprised that you get chinese scooters up to such high speeds, since it has always been a joke in sweden since we use yamahas, derbis, rieju's etc..
@49ccscoot7 жыл бұрын
It's basically the same platform as some of the Yamaha Minarellis. Mine aren't real fast, because I usually ride 100cc mild/sport stuff, but some have built some nice Chinese scoots (even though that sounds like an oxymoron). I wouldn't mind owning a Japanese or European 50, but Chinese scooters keep falling in my lap. I bought my first new, then bought my 2nd for $60, then one was given to me, then one for $100, then another for $100. No one wants to give away their Yamahas I guess. lol
