As a therapist I must say that fish keeping (when done right) and watching fish swim reduces stress and anxiety!! I have a small 10gal on my desk where I do my virtual sessions. It's a useful tool to help reset in between each session. Furthermore fish keeping promotes self care! My dad has been a fish keeper (Discus) since I was a little girl and in his foot steps I follow!! Just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration (from Chicago, IL)

Sorry to hear about the male ram, but also thank you for sharing that - I don’t think that fish deaths are talked about much on these platforms, which makes it all the more gut-wrenching when you’ve put your all into making an ill fish better without success. It’s a good reminder that these things happen & it doesn’t necessarily reflect on you as an owner!

@@sararendon8131 and it takes a lot of researching what their symptoms are and what the disease might be so the medications are correct. It's best to take the fish out and give it dips or quarantine it away from the main tank. I just started a 3 gal quarantine. I think aquarium salt is very good for so many things and there's different levels of treatment amounts to use...but using salt will kill snails and kill or damage plants. There's some channels that go into diseases and treatments but I think much more in depth on certain web sites.

This is my favourite tank MD. Its really a masterpiece... and just shows that despite the hobby being decades old you can bring something new if you are creative enough. Given the RAM passed... please please please maybe consider a pair of Cockatoo apistos . they are honestly so characterful and obviously gorgeous. Anyway - so stoked for the development of this tank. Another testament to your paradigm on tanks working really well.

I suspect the cory you mentioned as C.Adolfoi might be a C.Duplicareus since the band on the back is a lot thicker than the one of Adolfoi's. They come from the same water, they sometimes school together as well so they're often sold as Adolfois but they're Duplicareus Corys.

I had the same happen to my German Blue Ram. I suspect though it might be the temp. I kept him at 25.5C degrees but I’m thinking he needed to be 28C. He was fine for about 8 months before he literally wasted away before my eyes. Won’t get more until I can get a dedicated tank for them.

There is some preference to light in plants. Its called PAR and is equivilent to the spectrum. Plants use blue lights the most so 6k is great
@annalee74033 жыл бұрын
PAR doesn't weight any color of light more than another. 1 photon of yellow light has the same PAR value as 1 photon of red light, even though a plant would prefer the red photon. Unless the light is putting out the right spectrum to grow plants, a PAR number is meaningless.
@Killercreek3 жыл бұрын
@@annalee7403 theres no such thing as a PAR number. Its a spectrum between 400 and 700 nm. Do you mean PPF(D)?
@annalee74033 жыл бұрын
@@Killercreek Thank you. I meant to say par range (or spectrum). When measuring the amount of effective light a light fixture emits for a plant to use, two primary measurements should be read and examined together. First, PAR or Photosynthetic Active Radiation needs to be measured. PAR is essentially a measurement of light emission within the photosynthetic range of 400-700nm. This represents the area of light that plants use for photosynthesis or to grow. PAR is measured by the number of micromoles of light per square meter per second. Although PAR is a key measurement, it only tells one part of the story. There are many areas within the PAR scale which plants absorb only in small quantities, such as in the green range (560 nm). Thus, a reading of a light’s spectrum must be used in conjunction with the PAR reading to determine what bandwidths those micromoles are being generated and in what amounts. A spectrum reading is obtained by using a piece of equipment called a spectrometer. These two readings together will give a complete picture of a light’s effectiveness, PAR showing strength, and spectrum showing that this strength is in the proper wavelength proportion for what the plant can actually utilize, and not just wasted energy. These two measurement tools produce a reading that shows what wavelength or colour is being emitted and the absorption value of that particular wavelength. By looking at a graph showing Light Spectrum at a Determined Height w/ Plant Absorption Percentage by Nano-meter Overlay, one can determine if the light emits the proper wavelengths used by the plant for photosynthesis and at the correct absorption peaks required for robust and quality plant growth.

I've got a pair with Blue Neon tetras for about a same time and the male bullies his way through. I do feed them frozen food at least once a week and keep the temperature at 28 °C, which is said to be ideal for Ramirezi cichlids, but not viable for many plants or fish.
