Personal opinion, but I feel as if Nas, especially early Nas, is the greatest MC to ever touch the mic. I love BIG, Big L, Mobb Deep, Scarface, Masta Ace, all of em. Nas just gives me that raw emotion in almost every song. I find myself breaking down his lyrics as if studying poems. Like an onion going deeper layer by layer and becoming more fascinated with each new thought learned. Truly beautiful.

Although this song is old, I remember listening to this on KZbin in the college dorm room back in the fall of 2010 on a damp rainy, day. This beat suits those days. Nas' relaxed flow over a melancholy give me a nostalgia overload.

Haters in hip hop media have been hating Nas for outshining/outrapping their favorites when it comes to rap, so they have routinely tried to downplay and outright ignore his greatness for years. It’s a shame, because they could just promote the versatility of the artform by presenting songs like this to the masses…but here we are. Real ones know

I commented on this two years ago and found my way back again! Every time I hear this track it gives me that mid 90s vibe and just makes me visualize an average Friday or Saturday night back in 94/95 when I was in High School listening to music on the late night flipping through the stations just watching TV. I miss simpler times like that!

Cerwercker No, Deja Vu was confirmed to be made during the development of It was Written along with Everything is Real, Understanding and Life is a Dice Game but were later scrapped. The only songs that were Pre-Illmatic (1991-1992) were Nas Will Prevail, On The Real and Just Another Day In The Projects.
