Very slow operation. Traffic light priority needs to be incorporated throughout. The trams should have the right away at minor intersections. Otherwise a great system with lots of potential.
@GaryNumeroUno4 жыл бұрын
Yes, micromanaged with too many traffic lights and speed restrictions. It is certainly not a free flowing system like a European or Melbourne network. The double shuffle through the city centre is also a big time waster. There should be a 'TRTS' tram ready to start sensor at the stop so the driver can 'request' a clear traffic light prior to moving off from the station stop. We had them in Birmingham UK and the system worked well.
@maxvandenberg9553 жыл бұрын
@@GaryNumeroUno I agree. But it seems to have improved quite a bit. The speed restriction from Randwick to UNSW High Street is ridiculous. Same goes for George St (15 km/h) and the gate at Randwick. Up till Central. No traffic lights are necessary there, just a give way sign. Though it is a system with a lot of potential and it is not completely terrible. Even without TRTS it could be improved. I think the journey can be cut by about 7-10 mins depending on traffic. A 34-minute journey is much more acceptable for a passenger. Would you agree?
Ever since I started to connect with your work, it has made my life so much more awesome because I get to travel everywhere!

@@kishascape Tram/ light rail is a scam from the rail industry. Even the crappy O'bahn/ guided busway in Adelaide from TTP to Adelaide CBD takes 20 minutes for a 12 km end to end trip. It's quite unbelievable to why a tram system in Sydney can be so much worse than a crappy guided busway in Adelaide. I have hopes that the O'bahn or bus industry rubbish in Adelaide gets replaced with much higher capacity suburban or metro train. Just laugh at the O'bahn as a bus must never be used for backbone or high capacity public transport route. www.railpage.com.au/f-t11354396.htm www.unisa.edu.au/Media-Centre/Releases/2020/adelaide-o-bahn-far-more-efficient-than-citys-rail-network/

Great video. However, one thing I have noticed is that downtown Sydney is quite crowded and that hardly any people (if any) are wearing masks. It is not that the threat of corona is over. It is better to be safe and continue taking all safety precautions against the virus. After all, one should not just get careless and get carried away. Thanks for sharing this video.

This was definitely recorded before the pandemic because there are certain changes on the roads that have been implemented just before COVID started that I’ve noticed aren’t there in this video.

Has the light rail improved much since it opened?
@maxvandenberg9553 жыл бұрын
Yes apparently they already removed 10 minutes from the total travel time. Timetable says it should be possible to do it 34 mins. And I think that is possible as well if they start removing unnecessary speed restrictions and traffic lights.

This light rail service is too painfully slow to compete with driving a car or even taking the bus. Why did they build this?
@joscallinet62604 жыл бұрын
@Dave Tempe Read the other comments here! I am NOT the only one who finds the tram is too slow. Look at Andrew Calvin's, 'willybus's' and 'covoflyer's' comments. Covoflyer's asking if the light rail has improved at all since it opened parallels my own vivid impression that the Sydney Light Rail was EXCRUCIATINGLY slow and TIMIDLY OPERATED right when it first opened! (now it has improved to where it is merely "PAINFULLY" slow!) LOL It is a high-quality installation, however - I just wish it would take better advantage of what it has to offer. A good start would be to give it priority at major intersections. It's being treated the same as if it were some old, slow bus.

Isn’t it funny how touchy the locals get over their prized world beating snail rail system. 45 minutes to travel around 10 Kim’s is pathetic, was interested too in finding out when this was filmed as it’s claimed it does it in around 38 minutes, which is still too slow. That “ dickwad” obviously hasn’t been to Melbourne to see how a real tramway works and efficiently at that.

Seriously. Slow, bloated, stopping starting varying speed too much. All that wasted space and ugly outdated overhead wires creating radio interference and making ugly skylines and neighborhoods. Even a bicycle would be better than this garbage. What a joke!
@harrygoldun57794 жыл бұрын
@Dave Tempe, everyone is of the same opinion that it is too slow, seriously look at some cab ride videos in real time of the Melbourne system, with street running and in reservations the trams are quicker even doing, shock horror 60 to 70 klms in safe zones, contrast that in similar zones with the 40 or on one ocassion 50 kms
@harrygoldun57794 жыл бұрын
Even look how they cross with.the L1 at Haymarket, careful, don't go over 20kms as the wheels will fall of. Pathetic really, that ain't no world class transport mode, it's a joke!!

Sydney Light Rail in Australia
@michaeleverett14794 жыл бұрын
The Sydney tram/ light rail is so garbage and pointlessly expensive at $3 billion with crazy cost blowouts. It has taken 45 minutes just to travel 11 km. Hardly world class public transport by normal standards. Even a fit cyclist can travel substantially faster than this snail oversized Sydney tram on a grade separated bike path. The tram route in Sydney should have been a fully elevated (fully grade separated) bi directional monorail instead with large trains and elevated stations.
