Your flight took off on runway 36L, better know as the Polderbaan. That runway is so far away from the main terminal area, it has it's own control tower.

Thanks to using AMS as my base of operations for this whole trip, I got very familiar with the Polderbaan runway haha. And you all will too by the time we're done with this trip haha. I didn't realize one of their main runways was closed when I picked AMS for this trip haha.

I did see that. I think it's mostly public posturing if you ask me... There are a bunch of maintenance issues and emergency stations in the US and world every day in aviation. You can look on flight radar right now and find flights diverting for a multitude of reasons. This is once again and knee-jerk reaction that the FAA id doing because the media has everyone up in arms about the Boeing Max issues. I'd bet if you actually look at a graph showing all issues it would be very similar to previous months.

Yeah... You know, when I booked this whole trip and picked AMS as my base of operations, I didn't realize one of their main runaways. The one right next to the terminal.. Was closed for reconstruction. So, I got to fly in/out of what they call the Polderbaan runway seen here in this video many times on this trip haha. I felt like we were taxiing all the way to Germany for takeoff haha.

That seemed as a very huge airport (Schiphol). From the gate to the runway it seems about 25 minutes of strait taxing, at a moderate speed, with a very brief stop for traffic.

Schiphol is a big airport, for sure. That said, it is a big exaggerated here as one of their main runways right next to the terminals is closed for resurfacing. So, we had to taxi all the way to a runway that is so far from the terminals that it doesn't even have a fence around it and it has a separate control tower haha. So typically, you wouldn't need to taxi as long as we did here.
