Awesome bro. Just what I've been looking for.

Great creation. I'm thinking of doing a late model V8 swap in an S10 and the 4L60E is still good so I might go this route instead of buying a 700R4 (4L60).

Thank you for this video. I do have a question. I was under the impression that if you left the switches in forth gear mode and the shift selector in OD, that the transmission would start out in second gear but up and down shift thru 2nd,3rd,4th normally. Is that correct? Regardless, Cheers from Alaska! 🍺
@slimsauto24062 жыл бұрын
From what I know that is correct but never really tested it

I like the idea of no computer but I also know how absent-minded some of us could be and I be a little concerned about burning up a transmission because I forgot to hit the right switch at the right time or hit the wrong switch at the wrong time

If you run a good cooler even at extended cruising speeds no lockup isn’t the end of the world. The th350s and 400s don’t have lockups and they run like that all day. The more modern transmissions may be more sensitive but it’s still not the end of the world

Does take a little thinking. Might do a new video on a manual valve body and just manual shifting through the gears. It's supposed to be wire free

Hey just wondering when this is in second gear will it hold second gear without changing
@rcfarmer2163 Жыл бұрын
I’m looking to do this in a derby car, and all I will ever use is first and reverse, with the shifter, so when I wire the switches up. leave it first gear at all times then just use the shifter to go in reverse, then when I throw it to first it will be in first?
@slimsauto2406 Жыл бұрын
Yep. Should work
@jtp6822 жыл бұрын
this a great video what years transmission does this work with?
@slimsauto24062 жыл бұрын
Depends on the vehicle but most late 80s through 90s light duty trucks, SUVs and some cars had this transmission. Would also work with 4l70e and 4l80e transmissions

I'm sure it doesn't need 12 volts all the time only when the key is on I'm sure why would you want a drain on the battery like that when its not running idk for sure but it makes sense
@slimsauto24062 жыл бұрын
As long as none of the switches are on, there will be no drain on the battery. Hooking it up to an ignition 12v instead of constant would work the same. In my case it was just easier to hook up to a constant 12v

For all that just throw in a manual shift body, and 4th gear lock up switch.
@excitationofstereocilia21036 ай бұрын
Can u explain what that would be like
@grimspyder00016 ай бұрын
@@excitationofstereocilia2103 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYuunoqKZZaXisksi=L6QJYTyCVBv2JZC- Over simplification, but a manual valvebody let's you be in the gear you shift to. No Auto shifting

Just put the shifter in reverse
@torque84752 жыл бұрын
@@slimsauto2406 Damn quick response time thank you. But what switch positions do they need to be in? To go back in forward do you just put shifter back in D and shift with switches? Do you notice if the trans shifts hard due to line pressure?
@slimsauto24062 жыл бұрын
@@torque8475 doesn't matter switch positions. Yes just put the shifter back in d and good to go. Does shift hard cause it's max line pressure but less wear on the clutches that way

Hey man. A lot cheaper than a computer
@lucasarredondo1429 Жыл бұрын
@@slimsauto2406no disrespect meant, but he's right, your solution is super trashy and ghetto. You don't need a $1k computer. Just Holley's TPS kit and get the RPM signal out of the ignition.
@excitationofstereocilia21036 ай бұрын
@@lucasarredondo1429wow so holly makes a kit so it's all automatically sensed ?
@lucasarredondo14296 ай бұрын
@@excitationofstereocilia2103 Exactly, there are standalone PCM controllers for more modern automatic transmissions, either because you are going to use a carbureted engine or another engine that uses different electronics. Just an example, you could put a Rover V8 in a Firebird or Camaro that has a 3800 V6 which is the same as the Rover but with two fewer pistons. So you could use the original PCM from the Rover and control the original 4L60E transmission from the Firebird.
@lucasarredondo14296 ай бұрын
@@excitationofstereocilia2103 To recap, if you are going to use a carbureted engine, with a TPS kit you can keep your factory electronic transmission.

Have you had any issues running full line pressure all the time? Seems like it might be hard on the pump. Just curious because I'm doing the same mod.
@jeremiahstone5285 Жыл бұрын
I don't see why that could be hard on the pump, the pump is run off the tc connected to the engine, if anything, restricting line pressure is harder on the pump, but I would imagine the AFL valve would still lower it even without the force motor
