So many very heavy reps. Those small increment ramp-up sets above 300 should have been singles or doubles not sets of 4.

so close with that last rep. definitely think he can hit more weight if he did fewer reps in the beginning.

@L F I think if he hit his failed rep at 10:00 on the clock instead of 15:00 he wouldve made it

@L F Those 90% sets are not "warm up" though.

@L F They were heavy working sets. Great if you're doing an ordinary workout, but not the best strategy as a lead up to one top set in a competition. The idea is to prime the nervous system for maximal lifts without causing too much fatigue. Warm up with a couple sets of lighter weights then ramp up with increasingly heavy singles. All those very heavy reps prior to his top set drained him unnecessarily.

Just my opinion, but i think you wouldve done better with less sets and more rest with bigger jumps. That 7 lb jump seemed like a big waste of energy just for 7lbs. I think you couldve done 325, 355, and maybe 360? 355 you almost had with 8 reps of 340, 347 in between...355 wouldve been easy with 2 more minutes rest

Doesn't finising at the top still accelerating so the bar "pops" requieres more energy? Thus having less in the tank for the rest of the reps? Just asking as you like to be really analytical about things

I find a little pop at the top allows me to reset my rack position (my weak point on FS) each rep and also get a good breath in since I let out a bit of air on the ascent of the squat. It’s by far the easiest portion of the lift in terms of leverages so it doesn’t cost a lot in terms of energy.

Short answer, it does not require more energy, for him, for shorter athletes it might be slightly different. But in general adding more momentum to the bar makes going through the sticky points way easier.

Theoretically yes buuut slowing down is even worse so if you slow down think of it like a tempo squat at the top thats even harder
