Let’s give it up for the real heroes of Overland KZbin: the women who follow their mans around the truck while he tries to do a one-take walkaround. We salute you.

I appreciate your videos. So many times, KZbinrs sling the “best” and most expensive gear. The commercialization of some of the channels is a little over the top. You have steered me into a couple of products, thanks for keeping it real.

Glad that you mentioned about trash and bears, and using the bear vault. Honestly the only overlanding KZbinr I have seen that even mentions anything about it. Have you changed anything now with a little one with you? I think diapers are the toughest part to manage when it comes to trash management.

I know this is an old video and you've moved on, but this was a nice build. I didn't realize that you had this many miles on this rig, mine's a 2013 Trail and I'm just about to hit 135k, so I guess it's barely broken in haha. I think you got this around the same time I got mine, but other than skids, sliders, and General ATX's, mine's still stock. I'm finally starting to think I may actually build it, I'm planning on hidden winch setup and a 2-in suspension, probably Dobinson's.

I'm closing in on a year and 10,000 miles on a set of General Grabber X3s. I'm not sure if they're a mild MT or an aggressive AT, but they have been a pleasure to drive on. Wanting to preserve my 15 mpg, I only went one size larger than stock on tires. Sand performance at street pressure was the only area I was left wanting. Most of my builds have had wider tires that didn't require airing down, so it caught me off guard the first time. The inexplicably heavy GX was certainly a factor as well. I spend very little time in sand anymore, and everything was fine once pressures were dropped to the teens.
@RevereOverland3 жыл бұрын
I think any tire will struggle in sand at street pressure. I can definitely feel the KO2s bogging unless I'm at

Cool! I’ve just replaced my KO2s after 56k trouble-free miles, and they still had 6-10k miles left, but that’s less than what I’ll be putting on my new set this summer. Also, Shrockworks rock sliders and Smittybilt X2O (it IS oh, not zero) 💪🏼 Happy tails - less gear, more mpgs!

Nice walk-around and explanation of your thoughts. I have molle panels from Outbound Nevada in my 3rd gen 4R windows and set my power system up very similar to yours, but I'm using a Renogy DC-DC/Solar charger and a 600w sine-wave inverter for now. Keep up with the great content and maybe I'll see you out there. I hope to do KOAR next fall.

I'm starting down the tires/lift/money/weight/MPG rabbit hole for my ORP 4Runner. I have questions: Are you on E rated tires? What tire size and rating would you recommend for my use? I'm considering holding off getting a lift. My vehicle use is 90% grocery getter and 10% fun. I like the idea of strong sidewalls and deflateability for that 10% of fun. On the flip side, I'd like to preserve MPG as best I can for the 90% road use. Not planning on major rock crawling. I'm not mechanical enough for that to be an affordable hobby for me. What's your vehicle's approximate MPG at 65, 75, 85 MPH configured as it is in this video? Can it cruise at 85? Your Big Bend video has me thinking of driving south and leaving the snow here in MN. Fantastic content. Thanks. Subscribed.
@RevereOverland3 жыл бұрын
In this video I had C rated, but just switched to E. I didn't see much difference when I made the switch other than less sidewall flex. The mpg is around 17 at 65mpg, and drop 1mpg for each 10mph increase! Cruising at 85+ is possible on flat land, but it doesn't like going uphill. Mine is severely weighed down though, and the giant sail on the roof doesn't help either. I'd probably do 275/70/r17 C rated if I were you. Big Bend is amazing. Even going from a mildly cold KY to the warmth there was so nice!

Nice walk around! Very thorough. I just got some Falken AT3Ws back in May and I absolutely love them! Every category is the same or better than my old KO2s. Only thing I don't know yet is treadwear. I got 70k miles out of my last set of KO2s and I sold them with the wheels (worth about $100) for $300!! Had about 15-20k miles left till they would have 4/32" tread. Just curious, have you ever weighed your 4Runner? I weighed my 3rd gen which I pack as light as I can and with 2 people and gear for a 2 week trip, I was 200 pounds over GVWR! It all adds up 😯

Thank you for sharing this video. Can you explain what you meant regarding ARBs bumper working with the airbags? Thanks!

ARB bumpers have a crumple zone that allows the airbags to deploy in a wreck. I’m not aware of any other bumper that’s designed to do that.

Great video. Glad to see you are out exploring. Just out of curiosity - you have not mentioned a solar generator like a jackery. Is this a lack of habit or even for this long trip you dont feel the need for one?
@RevereOverland3 жыл бұрын
I've found that with the dual battery and REDARC system I've not needed a solar generator. I have a 100W panel with me (that I forgot to mention), but it takes just 3-4 hours of driving to fully charge the second battery. Most of the time I've only used 10-50%, so it'll be charged in under 2 hours! I do still take a Jackery for friends to use or to power cameras while shooting video, but it's faster to charge it directly from the second battery in the vehicle.

Just curious because I'm in the same boat, you have a high mileage 4runner, you're going to start having issue after issue, at what point do you sell it for something newer? Also, it seems low 200k miles 4runners go for 6-9k. High 200k mile 4runners go for 3-4k. I'm thinking that 1-2k in repairs each year isn't a bad tradeoff for owning/using the truck. New 4runners are 60k, that's 30 years at 2k/year.
@RevereOverland3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had any issues yet. On my old Jeep I was constantly replacing parts at ~130k miles, so I’m happy!
@InfinityAwaits3 жыл бұрын
@@RevereOverland I've replaced everything in the front end. Bearings, axles, seals, speed sensors, control arms. The the 4x4 actuator which was $3500. Radiator. Now every axle seal and bearing is going out. I'm at 230k. Always change the fluids and maintain it.
@ReimerKeith3 жыл бұрын
The issue is rarely the cost of repairs, but rather whether you can trust the rig to get you home. Consider the cost of returning a used vehicle to a reliable baseline: replace all filters, fluids, belts, hoses, radiator, spark plugs, shocks, springs, upper control arms, bushings, body/engine/transmission mounts...
