4Runner Overlanding Trip to Kennedy Meadows Campground

💻 Monache Meadows was temporarily closed due to the storms and recovery effort by the U.S. Forest Services. We camped at Kennedy Meadows Campground. The campground was not that great because the sites had too much slopes all around, however great people made the camping one of the best memories.

I hope you eventually make it up to Monache Meadows. It's a great place to camp and a fun trail. That whole area is pretty special. The dinner you made with the pork belly looks incredible. I hope it tasted as good as it looked.

I am assured that I should plan another trip to Monache Meadows soon, perhaps this year. I heard it’s 30-40 deg colder there. Right? Honestly, I never get tired of pork belly. It’s relatively cheap, really tender, just salt/pepper on top, and it goes well with other menus. Thank you! 🥝

I've only been to Monache during the summer months and the weather has always been warm during the day and cool at night. No bad weather just bad clothes, right? @@DiligenceMichael

I went out to Monache Meadows the second day after the trail was opened up. I never really enjoy the drive out since it's a little tedious, but there are lots of great hikes to do once you get there! I parked near Bakeoven and hiked north a ways towards Fat Cow Camp, but in the past I've done dozens of hikes to destinations in all directions from Monache including a rather steep hike up Olancha Peak. If you haven't hiked down to Jordan Hot Springs, I recommend doing that one from the Blackrock Trailhead. This year the last creek crossing could be a little rough though.

@@DiligenceMichael I live in Kennedy Meadows and so I usually just pop in and out depending on what hike I want to do. Today I drove by the road to Monache on down to the Jackass Peak Trailhead and did a hike to Lost Meadow and back.
