The fuel shut-off lever has a solenoid that pulls it in the opposite direction for starting. Helps a lot for first start or during the day when sitting a few hours. It fuels a bit more at start-up. Saves the glowplugs and starter a bit in the long run. These Cruisers are the toughest vehicles for farm and overall use. Not the fastest but will get you home and the job done. Absolutely love them. Great videos as usual. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Namibia

Very cool truck! I had a 1968 FJ-40 for quite a few years. It was pretty much all stock. It was tough as nails and went anywhere I pointed it. I live in the southwest US, so it saw lot's of deserts, desert mountains, and canyons. It logged a lot of miles in Death Valley. I'm an old retired guy and have owned all manner of four wheelers over the years and the FJ-40 is one of my favorites. Currently, I drive a 1989 Isuzu Trooper 4 door and a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4 door. I love 4 wheeling.

I was on a construction project building a tunnel under the Suez canal in Egypt back in the late 70s, my job was to supply the tunnel on a daily basis. We had tunnel lining segments spread across the desert and my means of transport was a Toyota pickup with drop sides and tail gate. Haven't seen another in all those years so thanks mate for opening up more memories from the past. I swapped the Toyota out for a long wheel base Land Rover, wait for it !!!!! FIRE ENGINE complete with chrome bell and search light which I managed to get back to then UK. Sold the bell and mounted the search light on my 1930s cabin cruiser. On a trip to Cairo met up with the Land Rover Sales and display team on a military supply tour. Well we just had to invite them back to our Camp on the banks of the Suez Canal for the w/e. The display guys taught me how to drive Off road without killing my self, man we were putting those short and long wheel base LDs in places I'd was Sh-----g myself. But in came in handy when my next contact in Cairo again with a 110 County Land Rover we would go wadi jumping in Sinai and on down to Sharm El Shake. Nice one mate enjoy.

awesome! I was as excited as Shawno.. my first memory was a 79' that rolled into the body shop I worked at, I was 16, she was red with a white top and a Chevy 350, it was 2 years old, he said pulling the 6 cylinder saved over 200 pounds (100 kilos?).. beautiful. So, where to go? Fraser Island is on my list of places not to miss when I visit Australia, .... I want to bring a 70's Chevy 4X4 so the steering is on the correct side tho, I just don't know about all that driving on the wrong side and all .. and I'll do the cooking for us Shawno

Looks amazing, look forward to seeing how it turns out. No need to take it only crazy 4WD tracks for a first use. Maybe throw it back into its natural environment and go help a struggling farmer out for a day. Would love to see it rolling around a paddock.

Sweet new ride! I'm jealous. By the way most vehicles will run without a battery. Once a engine is running, the alternator will keep most running. Does depend on thr vehicle of course and how it's electrical circuits are ran.

I love land cruisers. My dad had two when I was younger . Put a 350 in the first one second one I rolled as a teenager. Would love to get one to restore as a retirement project.

Shawn you inspired me to go out to shop and start up my 73 fj40 that's hasn't started in 9 years. I parked it when my youngest boy was born. Just the other day my boy asked me why I never drive it, I said because I have the fj 80 sitting there with A/C. Nice looking rig you got there just fix her up and drive it.

Wish I had a Toyata Land Cruiser Diesel with no electronics, no computers. I am rebuilding a '79 GMC C-1500 right now but it isn't 4WD. It is a tough truck, you could say "a diamond in the rough". I work on it when the Alabama summer lets me, and am going to "rattle can" paint it O.D. green with black bumpers once the internals are finished. Looking for an AM tube radio to fit the dash to make it totally EMP proof. Thanks to my Uncle and my Dad, I know auto mechanics and electronics - they taught me well. No rust except stone chips and needs new regulators and rubber seals for the windows both sides. Pulled the HEI distributor and replaced it with points and capacitor ignition, the 350 was a "crate angine" both balanced and blueprinted and runs sweet with about 3,500 miles on it - just broken in. I could be persuaded to part with it for any year CJ-5, civilian or military even trade. Great video, thanks!

As for old trucks, I will say the same. The old truck my grandpa had and my dad had was to me a great feeling. I felt more connected and in tuned to the handling and ride. It felt as if you are part of it.

Good stuff mate, I had an 82 47 for about 10 years with a Thomas PTO winch on the roo bar, it went places I wouldn't take my HZJ or my now vdj97. You probably know to turn the key to the left for the glow light to come on before cranking it.

Do 4 things with it: Clean and paint it one colour, Drop the roo bar, fit 2 drivers seats from an FJ/HJ75 (the bench seat sucks and the single driver seat fits on boths sides) and fit an OME leaf kit (doesn't lift if too much but just makes the ride a little more comfy). Enjoy mate

I gave my son my 1989 Gen 1 Toyota 4Runner with the 22RE/5sp. I bought it when he was 2 years old and it had 125K miles on it. He is now 18 years old and It has 225k on it now. You can't kill this thing, it just runs.

Oh man, that is one sweet 47. If only I had a Mr Land Cruiser over here, I'd pick up a new windscreen, a couple single pane doors, a bonnet & my stretched 45 with a H engine would be good to go. Look forward to seeing where this build goes.

I just discovered your channel and love it. I've had many Toyota trucks but always wished we could get the Landcruiser Trucks in the United States. Not much better than the quality of the Toyotas and the cool factor of driving around in a truck with the doors off. Enjoy your new project. Great show. Will
