The fuel shut-off lever has a solenoid that pulls it in the opposite direction for starting. Helps a lot for first start or during the day when sitting a few hours. It fuels a bit more at start-up. Saves the glowplugs and starter a bit in the long run. These Cruisers are the toughest vehicles for farm and overall use. Not the fastest but will get you home and the job done. Absolutely love them. Great videos as usual. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Namibia

Very cool truck! I had a 1968 FJ-40 for quite a few years. It was pretty much all stock. It was tough as nails and went anywhere I pointed it. I live in the southwest US, so it saw lot's of deserts, desert mountains, and canyons. It logged a lot of miles in Death Valley. I'm an old retired guy and have owned all manner of four wheelers over the years and the FJ-40 is one of my favorites. Currently, I drive a 1989 Isuzu Trooper 4 door and a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4 door. I love 4 wheeling.

I was on a construction project building a tunnel under the Suez canal in Egypt back in the late 70s, my job was to supply the tunnel on a daily basis. We had tunnel lining segments spread across the desert and my means of transport was a Toyota pickup with drop sides and tail gate. Haven't seen another in all those years so thanks mate for opening up more memories from the past. I swapped the Toyota out for a long wheel base Land Rover, wait for it !!!!! FIRE ENGINE complete with chrome bell and search light which I managed to get back to then UK. Sold the bell and mounted the search light on my 1930s cabin cruiser. On a trip to Cairo met up with the Land Rover Sales and display team on a military supply tour. Well we just had to invite them back to our Camp on the banks of the Suez Canal for the w/e. The display guys taught me how to drive Off road without killing my self, man we were putting those short and long wheel base LDs in places I'd was Sh-----g myself. But in came in handy when my next contact in Cairo again with a 110 County Land Rover we would go wadi jumping in Sinai and on down to Sharm El Shake. Nice one mate enjoy.

Wish I had a Toyata Land Cruiser Diesel with no electronics, no computers. I am rebuilding a '79 GMC C-1500 right now but it isn't 4WD. It is a tough truck, you could say "a diamond in the rough". I work on it when the Alabama summer lets me, and am going to "rattle can" paint it O.D. green with black bumpers once the internals are finished. Looking for an AM tube radio to fit the dash to make it totally EMP proof. Thanks to my Uncle and my Dad, I know auto mechanics and electronics - they taught me well. No rust except stone chips and needs new regulators and rubber seals for the windows both sides. Pulled the HEI distributor and replaced it with points and capacitor ignition, the 350 was a "crate angine" both balanced and blueprinted and runs sweet with about 3,500 miles on it - just broken in. I could be persuaded to part with it for any year CJ-5, civilian or military even trade. Great video, thanks!

I gave my son my 1989 Gen 1 Toyota 4Runner with the 22RE/5sp. I bought it when he was 2 years old and it had 125K miles on it. He is now 18 years old and It has 225k on it now. You can't kill this thing, it just runs.

Oh man, that is one sweet 47. If only I had a Mr Land Cruiser over here, I'd pick up a new windscreen, a couple single pane doors, a bonnet & my stretched 45 with a H engine would be good to go. Look forward to seeing where this build goes.

I just discovered your channel and love it. I've had many Toyota trucks but always wished we could get the Landcruiser Trucks in the United States. Not much better than the quality of the Toyotas and the cool factor of driving around in a truck with the doors off. Enjoy your new project. Great show. Will
