4x4 propshaft / driveshaft seal (Replacement) shown on FIAT Panda 4x4

Our driveshaft or propshaft has an oil week from the front transfer case seal - easy job to fix? lets see :)

Hi Mark - all gone very slowly ! down to me and Autodoc (who keep sending the wrong parts - knowingly as well 😞 ) Paddy was all done, but the first replacement thermostat was faulty (and we fitted it - well Nath did 🤣) then the replacements have been the wrong connection type - plus its 3 weeks waiting for them to get here - the main dealer was saying 3 weeks as well, but 5 x the price, so hence why we started with Autodoc. My knee has been giving me real issues for the last couple of months, so finally had MRI and found out I have a fracture under the kneecap - along with some cysts ! - the quack stabbed them with a needle as he wazzed in the cortisone or alike. Only had this for 9 months - classic old man, it will go eventually - main issue is getting to it, so having the injections first to see if I can get movement back and it knits together 🤞🏼 he is not convinced surgery is a good option as in his words, such an odd place ! We really need Paddy on the road, fuel has hit 2.30 a ltr - saying that, irrelevant to what is happening in the world - Paddy's 60 - 80 mpg will be nice ! at the mo ! KR J&N

Morning Guys Another nice video, great to see you working on a proper car 👍 this car looks very clean underside, the prop almost looks new, I’m guessing it would have been a more demanding job on a 12+ year old UK car The top seal on a suspension fork uses the same Rubber Seal / Spring with like a little wiper lip,, like Stefano mentions it helps the seal. Looking forward to see the finished Paddy vs Pete I hope the knee is holding up and the coffee is flowing Weathers good in Wales and off to the coast in the Yeti Take care Ace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Morning Ace Biggest issue has been parts - Autodoc say it fits your vehicle, the photo is exactly what you want, but they send something completely different and say that's acceptable 🤡 so we are on thermostat part 3 !! - the main dealer said a month to get (could not believe that) and were 5 times the price. Knee is being a bastard to be honest (thanks for asking, you might regret that now :) had an MRI Thursday, so hoping its just a knackered ligament (think it is) so should be a easyish fix 🤞🏼been months and gradually getting worse - or as Mrs. M says, man up you *$£@* ! Hope Yeti is performing well and you can afford to fill him up ! Enjoy the beach ! KR J&N

Way easier than expected - the but is, our issue really was center propshaft bearing has gone, so its new propshaft time :( - plus we fitted a new clutch (not filmed ) and the issue has turned out to be - the previous owner has super glued the reverse lift in the up position, so this and the prop issues caused us to incorrectly diagnose a clutch issue. We needed a real man to pinpoint the bearing - luckily Nath tried one of his best rally car gear changes and ripped the gear stick knob off - thus exposing the super glue bizarre job, odd as nothing is wrong, just liked graunching the gear change we assume (we will film this as so weird)

Yes, the 2008 169 - clutch was fine to be fair - we removed the prop, changed the seal and it all looked fine, the prop is / was immaculate - add in, when going to 5th, we graunched every change, the car lept about, so we wrongly thought a clutch fault :( Local mechanic, diagnosed the prop bearing but this cannot be changed, its a complete prop needed (arrived today from Poland). The two issues are not linked, the mechanic did not spot the super glue bodge, we were just lucky Nath ripped it off, and we found the reverse guard super glued out of the way, for what benefit I cannot grasp.

@@DrivenMadShow Ah OK, the centre prop shaft bearing is often associated with causing extra vibration and excessive noise from that area! You're right it's sold as a one piece part, no matter which part has worn But I wonder if a specialist prop shaft company could replace a worn bearing? Worth keeping as a spare just in case.👍

Not wanting to be rude, as very lucky to live here - but a specialist anything in Portugal, you are more likely to see the old 🐷 fly 🤣 - we have a gearbox from our ML, I am searching high and low for a refurb on it - when you say "like new, just better" with a painted or powdercoat finish, they just put the phone down or laugh at me 🙈

Hi Jon and Nath....another informative video so thanks for posting....the spring that Jon was holding fits around the inside lip of the seal to assist with the sealing. Rubber seals degrade over time due to heat, cold etc and start to harden there by losing thier sealing properties and hence your small oil leak. Did you re-fill the rear differential unit with oil as this was not shown on the video, the 4x4 diff only holds about 0.6 litres of oil. When undoing or tightening up nut / bolts do not use a ratchet, you will cause the ratchet to wear out far quicker and if the ratchet mechanism slips or breaks you can possibly damage your fingers / knuckles, i speak from experience, use a breaker bar, then once the nut / bolt is free then use a ratchet for speed, adopt the same method when tightening.....have a great weekend, best regards, Stefano

Morning Stefano Excellent tips as always - Nath has refilled everything and all good (bar the thermostat issue - waiting on thermostat lll - 3rd time lucky !) We do have a windy gun, but not keen on that - Nath does not often use the ratchet gun, it's more me than him, you can see I missed the handing out of muscles 😂 The knee is keeping me away, now at the point I cannot drive 😭 so MRI done Thursday, results in a week - so on a youtube watching binge - any recommendations gratefully received, as I am bored already ! Sorry !! - they are great cars, we are waiting on a thermostat to get this one (Paddy as we call it) on the road as it sips fuel - hit 2.38 a litre here , but small price to pay rather than the horrors in Ukraine !! thanks for watching, let us know what you get !!
