and a tip for yua. when you lift that motor while you bring it up push the motor to the side and just kinda swing it out.

I need help with a swap I just had done I swapped my 5.3 engine and transmission (4l65e) 2wd in my 2007 Yukon with another 5.3 engine and transmission (4l60e) 2wd from a 2008 avalanche I’m using the same ecm from my Yukon so my question is does my ecm need to be programmed or flashed to the vin from the avalanche or is it just plug and play ? Any help would be appreciated thanks

Hey @mncarguy - thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to pull the same engine out of my '08 Suburban. I noticed the A/C compressor wasn't connected when you pulled it out. Did you just unbolt it and leave it in the bay connected to the rest of the A/C system? I hope that's the case because I don't feel like recovering the refrigerant and disconnecting any of it. Thanks...

No problem! Hope yours goes better than mine. Yup, we just left it connected in the bay. We also unbolted the entire alternator bracket and left that in the bay as well. Tons easier. Beware of the A/C compressor belt if yours doesn't have a tensioner by the way. Mine doesn't and it has to be installed like a bicycle chain. Bolt on the compressor then rotate the pulley until the belt slips on. Thought I'd let you know in case you haven't seen that video of mine. It's a pain.

I'll have to find the video about the compressor. The Haynes manual I have says it has a tensioner that you use a 3/8 stud on to release tension, but I haven't looked that far under. Thanks for the tip!

You know you don’t have to go through the starter hole to get to your torque converter bolts there is a dust plate on the bottom of the engine where you can access them much easier

Just bought a 09 Escalade ESV with a blown 6.2, I was thinking of throwing a 5.3 in it for the time being. Will I be able to strip the 6.2 down and install everything to the 5.3? Wiring harness, intake manifold, oil pan. Also i will need to run the ECU for the 5.3. one more thing, the ECU, is it equipped with a immobilizer?

You can as long as the 5.3 is the 58x reluctor wheel 5.3.If you use the 5.3 comouter it will work fine because the bcm is what tells comouter to start so no need to worry about immobilizer

That motor can be pulled in 2 hours. This guy 3 days in hadn't even got to the converter bolts 🤦🏼. Took the front end apart, holy cow

Do you, by chance, know what the spline count is on the torque converter for the stock 6L80? Bolt patern?

Spline count is 36 and not sure about the bolt pattern. It's just stock

It wasn't any harder than just replacing an engine for the most part. You will need your computer retuned and you'll have to swap some of the timing components out before installing the replacement engine. This roughly cost me around $6500 total. Hey I have a question so I got a 2004 tahoe 5.3 I want swap it go a 6.0 I wanted to see if I could use the stock tranny and what else is going change do you know like the wires and moving stuff around

Looks like everything will bolt right up and plug in if you get the 6.0L out of the same generation Tahoe as yours. You'd just need to have the computer reflashed for the 6.0L. 1 You can swap anything and nothing fits perfectly it will take some major tinkering and 2 the 5.3 in your truck is a vortec. Ls1 is a 5.7 liter. They do make a 5.3 ls but that is for front wheel drive only.

I just found out this 2008 5.3 has that active fuel management and when lifters start to fail it starts to burn oil and then it starts to knock . What the F ! 5.3 with Trac control is a lot shit . Stabilizer garbage to burn up the brakes .what did I get into ? Delete kit that you have to pull heads off to put new lifters change the pump and out new cam ? You crazy ? I'm not doing all that , it's getting traded .

Same block but in 2007 they changed to 58x reluctor wheel on non classic silverados

Mostly doing it so I can have the awesome power potential. The 5.3 put out 289hp and 291tq. Next week we'll see what the 6.2 is putting out :)

Put aluminum block back in,you can still run a good amount of hp through that aluminum block with no worries,cast is too heavy and it came like it was for reasons lok

dano the “loss of power steering assist” recall is an update on the pcm. Takes 15 minutes. I’ve never seen anyone replace a steering shaft for any reason other than rust.

Well come over and help us out man haha We're just wanting to do it right. This is the first time we've done anything like it so it's all a huge learning curve. It's still going along nicely so far. Other bullshit has been going on this week holding up progress but we should be dropping the new motor in tomorrow then getting it tuned.

Yeah, that's definitely a ways up there. Our shop is about 10 minutes out of Little Falls. What are you working on? I'm still waiting to receive the torque converter. Sounds like it'll be another week and a half before it'll be here. So I guess that's gonna go in later on after the motor is in and running.

May want to think about not hiring a junkie to do the swap. That could be a two-day turn around if it's done correctly, and your tech doesn't have to "figure out" how to take things apart.

That junkie is my dad dude. He's done dozens of engine swaps on older cars but not new ones. Just direct replacements. With that being said, it took less than a week and it's still running perfectly over a year later. It was the "professional" tuners that fucked me. Something tells me you have no idea what you're talking about.. This isn't a direct swap and it will not run with the 5.3L ECU.

Your pistons have valve reliefs and you have no sodium filled valves so still not a ls3 but close enough. I just bought a true ls3 for my 09 crew cab z7. I will try and make some videos of the swap
