If you want a real motor, trade your Dodge in for a 1998 Chevy 5.7 and you won't regret it. Mind has a comp cam with axle dumped straight pipes and it sounds delightful. I'm ticking over 350,000 kilometers without any issues and it's the original motor besides a new intake manifold, the cam, and air cleaner

Nice truck it looks a lot like mine I've got a 99 extended cab 4x4 was 318 now 360 bored, Hughes F1airgap, 52mm fastman, 24lb venom injectors, ported heads, roller rockers, JBA shorty headers, and SCT 9550 tuner gettin a new tune from Sean at hemifever, 37" coopers, 7.5" Ruf country lift, 4.56s Yukon, and last but not least built trans hd duel torque converter, and custom shift kit... More to come but not sure yet what.

I have a 96 1500 with 2500 7700gvwr front calipers and pads with stainless steel hoses along with 3500 wheel cylinders stopped alot better with 20" and an 800lb cattle guard lol. now it has that plus the hydroboost conversion and I can lock up the rear tires. that should help your stopping issues lol

Sct is my tuner, I payed for unlimited tunes, only problem I was having was backfiring through the intake, hemifever said I should be running rich not lean with my 24lbs injectors, but with the tuner he added fuel and problem was 98% cured, would still backfire if I tried revving it real hard real fast, so idk if I got something internally wrong or if its just the computer thing, no other problems though, might put a egt gauge in though sometimes I put my A/F gauge to 10 when I pin it!

some people think the 5.9l magnum is a weak sauce shitty engine but theyre wrong they made that engine for 30 years. they can outlast any of the new aluminum engines. so ya i guess the 5.9l sucks

Jacko Reaper man it sucks that dodge didn't keep them in the line up the only reason they didn't was cause of the hemi and also the gas mileage on the 5.9 but it is by far one of the best Chrysler engine made I've seen probably about 10 that have over 300,000 miles on the engine not usually original tranny but still that's impressive for a gaser I have a 2002 5.9l 155k on it and my engine runs just as good as the day it was built

360 LA & the 5.9 magnum are like a secret weapon for a beefy daily driver. It takes little effort to get 475HP out of them n/a with an ass load of torque down low for pretty cheap. Personally, I hope people keep hating on these motors so parts stay cheaper.

I have a 240,000 miles on my factory 360 in my Dodge and it gets 10mpg and about a quart of oil per tank of gas lol. Strong engine and everything but they aren't made to be fast, they're made to pull.

4500 ish with block work, and reconditioning the crank and piston rods, and a rebuild kit, if I did my home work better I could of built a 408 but you live and learn

Also remember even if you mark your distributor its still not dead on, the fuel sync has to be put on 0 viewing a scan tool, a good one like a snap on, if its on 0 then try replacing your cam sensor.

I'm still having few problems with mine....from day one I had backfires through the intake...we found nothing wrong with it no vacuum leaks nothing, so we had Sean at Hemifever dump fuel in it cause my wideband said it was running lean...and for like 2 weeks ran good...now its starting to run to lean at top end idk if its just broke in so still doing some fine tuning with Sean...thank god I payed for the unlimited tuning for life haha!

thats why I went with my cam part number 20-604-9 from comp...duration is 210-220 has great low end...if your not sitting back in my seat ill put you back lol. I kept it low duration just for torque plus the air gap from hughes helps more with torque, and Im going to silver lake in michigan HP is nice but I want to get up those hills and mudding and stuff so I did a mid range cam its great up at high RPMs and good down low. sounds nasty to!

Yeah I can daily drive it it will run a little lean and backfire through the intake apon heavy acceleration, which is a sign of running lean on the fuel. You can easy into it and she will get up and go but the response from the cam just isnt there unless you tell them computer what to do. It would be like driving a diesel with a laggy turbo.....you wait a good 2-3 seconds before she starts really screaming.

Put in a shift kit. The soft stock overlapping shifts is what kills automatic transmissions.

Engine blew so it's being taken to a machine shop I'm getting the speed pro hyperceutic flat top Pistons bored .40 over headers cold air intake and strait piping it and putting a cam in any suggestions on what cam I should use I don't want anything crazy but I do wanna go fast ha also what do you think about those Pistons?

straight piping is the wrong way to go! any ram is heavy you should do shorty headers, and x pipe, and 3 inch tubing with a borla, magnaflow, etc mufflers just not flowmaster. cold air intakes don't do anything. stick with a roller cam these engines came with one. I suggest comp and lunati. intakes you'll want to go with a 2bbl M1 or 4bbl m1. 2bbl is a single plane and 4bbl is a dual plane. dual plane is better for low to mid range performance. the 2bbl is better for high range rpms. you can port and polish your stock intake but, you'll get the power range between 0-4000 rpms and it struggles. with shorty headers the 4bbl will have power everywhere. just the 4bbl m1 with stock headers will stubble from 0-3500 rpms because of so much air that's being pushed in. speaking of stock stuff you'll want to do 1.7 ratio rockers from Harland sharp. they'll handle the high end rpms if you intend to be running in the high rpms a lot. these engines came with pedestal rockers. mopar performance valve springs, and pushrods.

Cody Capps, he can easily do straight pipes and it will sound good but to hold the low end torque he would need to do either 2" or 2.25" pipes to maintaine performance.
