Hey friends! In this video, I'm going to be going through 5 preferences that I think you should change (or experiment with changing) to help improve your workflow in Ableton Live! :)

You're welcome! I was hesitating as to whether or not to include this one as it's such as specific use case so I'm so glad that you found it useful! :D

Your videos are great! They actually answer real questions. I use Ableton to record old-school; I record real instruments and vocals, track-by-track and slowly build a song; I don't like using artificial "MIDI" or synthesized sound effects. To me that's not musicianship. I'll lay down a drum track, then I will add bass, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboard and percussion, etc. Only an occasional synthesized effect. Very Simple. So what do we old timers, who don't use MIDI effects, do to make our music recordings better? Thanks and great work on your channel.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah my videos are definitely geared more towards electronic music because that's my areas of specialty, but i can definitely do some more generalised mixing videos and stuff like that! Is there anything in particular you're interested in seeing? :)

It’s fine to have passion for the ol vintage way of doing things and I love music from all eras but be careful not to carve out an identity of being that old fart that won’t adapt to the times and judges everything new. I love how you have to commit in your way of making music, but you can play a synth just like you play a piano. A melody is a melody. Comes down to feel groove and melody. The new stuff is like when they discovered amps and Sinatra classy types were hating on rock, rock hating on rap the cycle goes on.

Is there a way to make Ableton do their warping algorithm after you import it with auto-warp turned off? Or do you have to delete it, turn auto-warp back on, and then re-import it? I could never figure out how to do this which is why I always left it on, and if I didn't want it to be warped I would unwarp the clip after Ableton already did its thing. Regardless, another banger of a video.

On any warped clip you can right click on the top bar (along where the warp markers go) and there are a few "warp from here" options, which do effectively what the warping algorithm does on import. :) Because I do a lot of mixing and importing of stems I find I'm more often than not working with long samples unwarped, which is why I leave the option off. But yes you can warp after the fact!

u leave it to auto-warp short samples? im coming from FL Studio so I like the warp and time stretch myself.
@MartilnMusic

Yup! It means that any loops will automatically warp to the tempo but mostly leave one shots un-warped. Audio clips have to be 'warped' for you to be able to time stretch them, so this actually saves you having to turn on warp individually for all of the clips you bring into the session, and you can still warp however you want afterwards. :)

@@MartilnMusic thanks bruv. Good video! Still having an incredibly hard time using ableton though. Wish I used it 15 years ago over FL because it’s so confusing to me

Totally fair! FL is a very different beast. I've got a video on the basics of Ableton here if you wanna check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaitap-ga515jM0 I've also got a whole Ableton course. It's a bit exxy but definitely will get you up and running! ☺️

Hello how are you? For some reason Live is not saving what im doing to it; It's not saving any changes i'm making to the set. example: i change a bunch of parameters and the volume of each track, then save the set, then load it, and it loads the old set before the changed were made. thanks

Hi Sebastian, this seems like a really strange issue, are you sure you're saving the set correctly and/or loading up the correct set that you've saved? That's all I can think of without seeing the problem in action.

Seems like several of these are "as needed" meaning something like "auto warp' on for some things and not others. Of course the trick is to get the pea-brain to remember such things :lol:
@MartilnMusic
@MartilnMusic Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That said, I find it much easier to keep the 'auto-warp long samples' option set to off because I find it never really does a good job and will often also cut off the start of the sound. But, definitely just understanding what the preferences are and what they do means you can change them as needed! :)
