The way Ableton sometimes affects the lengths of notes in a groove is still a mystery. Some Groove presets do this, some don't and IIRC when saving a user groove the note lengths are ignored. I don't understand how it works.

From my understanding, Grooves shouldn't affect the length of notes, only their starting position. This would affect the length of the note if it then meant that it created overlaps, but other than that the lengths shouldn't be affects as far as I'm aware.

@@matttinklermusic Thanks Matt. That's how it seems to work if the notes are 'touching' to begin with. As an experiment try cutting a row of full 16th notes in half and then committing a groove eg.'Swing 16th 68.agr' (with everything on 0% apart from Timing). If you repeat the process with even shorter notes the results are length changes again, but different. So it seems the final note lengths are related to their original lengths. It's a shame there isn't a % parameter to control Lengths like we can with Quantise, Timing, Random and Velocity. Sometimes you may not want Ableton to alter note lengths (unless they overlap as you say).

You're totally right! Looks like the final note lengths are basically determined by how long the original note was taken as a percentage of the base time. Definitely would be cool to see a length percentage implemented in the Groove pool!
