What if instead of a hand cam you had that controller thing like ZeRo has on his stream? It shows all the buttons/sticks and shows when/where he presses them. Might look cooler/neater on the video. Idk how you could set it up though
@wanderingrandomer6 жыл бұрын
I find ZeRo's set-up to be kinda hard to tell what buttons are being pushed when, because it all happens so fast. At least with handcam, you can actually see the movements of the hand, which is useful if you struggle with inputting consistently like I do.

This video has really opened my eyes. Practicing my recovery has helped me immensely with edge guarding. I even kind of adapted your practice regimen to help with a really bad habit that I've had ever since I was an 8 year old kid playing Melee. I used to burn my second jump way too early so of course this means I could never get the courage/confidence to go in deep to edge guard. So In addition to what you went over in this video, I've been practicing running straight off a ledge without jumping, fairing, and then jumping back up to the ledge. I can't stop saying how much this has helped. Thanks so much!

This was actually a great idea. Most of the time people don't really do any tutorials on improving recovery as it's usually assumed players already know their respective characters enough to not need it. And the only exceptions being special recoveries like Link's bombs or Wario's bike etc; since most other characters don't have recoveries like them. While this is definitely for those players new to the game and want to improve on a competitive level, it's still a good piece of information.

I find that characters with teleporting up B's, like Palutena, Mewtwo, Zelda, etc are the hardest for me to get consistently if I'm not pressing a cardinal or intercardinal direction on the joystick (where the little dents are) since you get very little info about where your trajectory is going until you, uh, finish teleporting and that's too late. Or rather, it's hard to tell what exactly happened differently when I think I made the same input twice (and I know I went roughly the same depth down before jumping) but one time you make it and the second you don't rip

Very interesting. Maybe you should have talked about teleport recoveries which is a special case too because in my opinion it can be difficult to use sometimes if you want to grab the ledge horizontally or diagonally for exemple. You have to be very precise to don't reappear too high or too low.
@princesscool696 жыл бұрын
when you brought up recovery exploits you should have mentioned something like how inkling can get horizontal movement from the paint roller and an extra jump since u can exit it with jump but doesnt have it count towards your 2 jumps that you would normally get. example: use paint roller off stage. jump to exit then jump and jump again and B+^ and you still have air dodge left over if you need it. zero i think it was talked about it in a video he recently did on inkling. its honestly mental how much distance and play you have off stage by using that method

yeah definitely. I'll touch upon it in my Inkling specific video but this is meant more as a general guide overall.

I play a poor recovery character (incineroar) and my biggest question that I cant seem to find an answer to is how many actions I can input during recovery before I cant move anymore? I know you can upB, air dodge, and do a single jump, can you do more? For example can I add a sideB in there? Or what if I wanna spike someone who is trying to recover, if I jump off the map, and spike them with a d-air, can I still air dodge, jump, and upB?
@JulesTrades6 жыл бұрын
Hi. You can go into training mode and test out for yourself and see how many actions you can perform if you can't find an answer. but to give you an answer anyway, figure out which moves put you into a "freefall state" which for incineroar none of them do. You can only do one air dodge, one up b, one side b, one jump before you touch the ground again. So yeah if you spike someone you can still jump, air dodge, side b and up b.
@RedMooseJesus6 жыл бұрын
@@JulesTrades I appreciate the answer! I actually dont have the game, I play it a lot with a group of friends so I cant practice on my own like i'd prefer, its always just straight into matches :p Does taking damage reset your options at all? Like if you jump, and upB and then get hit before ever touching the stage, can you jump and upB again?
@JulesTrades6 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you get hit, you get another up b and air dodge.
@RedMooseJesus6 жыл бұрын
@@JulesTrades awesome I really appreciate the info thank you! 😁
@hashiramasenju32466 жыл бұрын
Potentially important to mention with incineroar, while his upB is one of the more unique options (only a few are like it and do not put you in your "helpless" freefall state) because of how far down his upB sends you after, you should almost always still treat it like its your last resort for recovering. Which is how most characters work anyways. If you want to try it up high and offstage you could surprise your opponent and hit them for a lot of knockback, but most places offstage, that will kill you when you could have lived.
@ComptonUnhh6 жыл бұрын
You dont need to B reverse your up B, if you're facing the wrong way just hold diagonal up toward stage and hit B and you will automatically change your direction, only thing is you wont get the extra height from holding back for example

Wait,so in this video,that means that instead of holding up right and recover right on the left side (like how it works in smash four) I have to b reverse so that i actually go right instead of left,but why not have it so that if you point up right facing left make you upB right instead of left,sometimes it works,but when online it barely works
@shivdmanwii6 жыл бұрын
1 small issue i have is how you kept saying b-reverse up b when it is mostly a turn around up b most characters do. The difference is quite important because reversing your momentum right before using up b can actually get you killed with some characters if you use a b-reverse instead of a turn around up b. Other than that this is a great video and normally what i mostly tell people when they first learn smash because the most important thing in this game is to not die and knowing the limits of your recovery is extremely important for that as well as how it allows you to escape a lot of % from people edgeguarding you because you know exactly what you can weave around while still safely making it back to the stage.
