@@PrinceTrexus I know hes good. His projectiles are infuriating. The general conclusion is if you use young link, you're bad at the game
@PrinceTrexus
@PrinceTrexus 4 жыл бұрын
Jack Mullenbach if you’re someone who constantly spams projectiles and only relies on ranged attacks, then I’d agree that one could argue you’re bad at the game, but the key to playing Young Link is mixing up his projectiles with his close combat moves and air attacks. His projectiles aren’t as infuriating as other characters, like for example Ness. If u find yourself against an opponent who heavily relies on projectiles, then u need to practice avoiding and punishing them. For instance yesterday I played against a Ness player who kept spamming PK Fire over and over and over again. Eventually the more I played him the easier it was to avoid and punish it
@PrinceTrexus
@PrinceTrexus 4 жыл бұрын
Jack Mullenbach but just like with any character, Young Link is not for everybody. I mained Link in both Melee and Brawl, so I’m used to the classic link moveset. There are some of the smaller oddball characters that some people are amazing at playing as, examples are: Villager, Duck Hunt, Olimar, and Ice Climbers. For me personally, those are actually some of my WORST characters.

A few quick tips for finding KZbin videos of your character, sometimes you'll struggle finding your characters on KZbin and you might find outdated videos because the default setting on KZbin is relevancy which checks for views and likes over recency. Firstly change the KZbin filter in sort by Upload Date rather than Relevancy, this will prioritize you to recent sets so you can see how people are playing now. Secondly, try all different variations of a character's name. If you have a character with a long name like Rosalina and Luma or Duck Hunt Dog, try looking for abbreviations like "RosaLuma" or "DHD" as they might also have results come up. Thirdly, figure out what characters are named in other languages, especially in Japanese. This can help you find sets from players not exclusively in NA on KZbin, and allows you to study other regions easier. Finally, SSBWorld is a large community driven video archive that has everything from high level sets to Round 1 sets at locals, and if you can't find sets for your main on there maybe be the person who goes and uploads them to there to help out other mains of your character.

Dude, that watching good players using my characters and trying to add what they're doing into my repertoire is really solid advice. Different subject but same concept, but I've been a guitar player for 21 years, started when I was 9, and I'm 30 now, and a question I get all the time on songwriting, melodic ideas, scales and solos and such I respond with the same advice. Go listen to some of your favorite players, and try to add some ideas that you like into your library. It's a recipe for success to surround yourself with other people that are better than you. On top of that, play with people that are better than you. You will improve.

This was my first smash game, I bought it right before Covid. At first I hated how hard it was (I didn't grow up playing videogames) but now I'm catching on. I finally "know what I don't know" and I'm not just button mashing anymore. Now, I love the game and have multiple characters I can play. I've even been winning against some of my friend who have played the previous versions. It's really helpful how you mentioned that it's good to know your enemy and their moves. I hadn't thought about that. Same with improving on not falling off. I also need to remember to dodge and block. Thanks so much!

This is all solid advice. What you said is very true, in my opinion, and I have learned to use all the factors you mentioned that have helped me more than anything else. The biggest problem I have had with improving is how social it is. I dread going on discords to ask for matches since people normally talk in between matches and not all of it is related to the match, specifically. My internet is also bad but even if it were good, my distaste for social interaction is still a remaining factor.

This is all the stuff I've wanted to do or thought about doing. That tells me I'm mentally on the right track. I also have a bad habit of jumping around to different "mains".

Most important thing imo: Just stop approaching all the time. One of the biggest reasons why I consistently do good in elite smash is that people run at u without thought process. Dash back when someone approaches and they dont know what to do. Baiting options is pretty easy online, u just have to overcome the temptation of always pressing buttons. Less is more in this game pretty often.
@Thefootqueen
@Thefootqueen 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks this helped a lot. I have a habit to only sticking onto one or two characters regardless of who I’m going again. As I like to master particular characters, but focus on them too much. I am sticking to DK and Mario, barely switching to anything else. I will try to get out of that habit.

Thank you for this lecture. I still have a ways away to be considered decent at this game. I made it to Elite as my main in Jigglypuff, and I still feel like I know almost nothing. I think I am so concerned about the indignity of losing or getting meme’d on the internet after a spike or hard read, that I can’t focus on getting better because everyone is clowning on me. I also have pretty bad tilt, almost involving self-abuse if I lose too much.

I switched to Young Link (I mained Link in both Melee and Brawl, so I’m used to the classic Link style, not BoW Link), so i seemed to be doing really well with Young Link, so now I’ve been maining Young Link instead of Ike and trying to study and learn everything I can about his combos.

The problem that I have now is that I can now do the basic movements in training mode like shorthop fastfall attack but cannot apply it on a real match. Like I forgot to use it sometimes, or miss it when I intentionally do the move. It feels like there is a disconnect during the training and the real match.
@wanderingrandomer
@wanderingrandomer 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get that. Maybe just try to focus on reliably performing shorthop fastfall during a match above everything else. You might get bodied for doing that, but at least you're building that muscle memory.

Just pick a skill you want to incorporate into your fighting, and consciously choose to use it. You won’t use it right every time, but the more you do the better you will understand when to use it

I've been practicing RAR back airs recently and I'm getting them pretty successfully but when I try to attack cancel I keep fucking up. Some of these inputs are super tight in a whole ass match and my reflexes in general struggle to focus at a frame perfect level. I've been doing it in slow motion too but the tilt just comes out instead.
@JulesTrades
@JulesTrades 4 жыл бұрын
attack canceling isn't necessary in most cases and just RAR is more useful and it's easier. People tend to overcomplicate the game often. I don't do much tech and still get out of pools at majors. Fundamentals > Tech skill always. it's not a replacement.

My very 1st Smash game I ever played was Melee and well never really gained much experience than Brawl Showed and I saw that I needed to improve also Wii U was available and took the opportunity and still stayed behind somehow it somehow frustrating because Im not considered a suckiesh player in Smash but I see mostly all the people I know improve mostly in Smash games all the time and I want to improve with any type of character well not really with the characters I specifically like I already got my hopes down for little Mac due to his Low recovery but alteast I want to imprive with Mii Brawler and Sonic

QUESTION! What about if you want to get better at ultimate, but you can't really play the game? Like, for me, I have a gaming club I go to at my school, and we mainly play ultimate. We usually do tournaments because of how big the club is, but I'm pretty bad, so I basically get bodied every match, and have to wait for an entire tournament of like, 20 people to end before I get a chance to play again, and even then, I can't learn anything because my matches last less than a minute. How do you get better in a situation like that? (Also hopping into training mode/practicing in prolonged 1v1s isn't really an option because I would hold back the entire club and we have limited time)
