Free standing bathtubs placed near a wall or walls are excellent traps that capture and store bathroom dust, grime, and microbial growth in the areas between the wall and the tub that are all but impossible to clean.

No stand alone bathtub. No textured wall tiles, no bowl on counter top vanity, no fluted wall or cabinets. Yes to streamline, functional mirror. Anything that has no function, hard to clean deign is out for me. I clean my bathroom myself, I do not need all the useless nooks and crannies that’s hard to reach and clean.

Agree with all the negative comments on free standing tubs as far as cleaning- many are also hazardous to get in and out of.. I have tried them. Someone needs to live in these houses- not just look at them. They have to be easy to clean-not just eye candy.

Exactly! I have to for a health reason until there is an alternative. Besides that, I most likely wouldn't purposely delete a bigger tub, especially if I can get a sunk in the floor so it's easier to get into. I like space that's adequate to move in.

My floating Kohler toilet was a disappointment. Maybe it wasn’t installed correctly but it moved down ever so slightly as I sat down which really made me nervous when we had large guests use it. Secondly the bowl had very little water so #2’s dried up on the surface and it always looked gross on the inside . This didn’t happen to me, but all the plumbing is behind the wall and I always wondered what would happen if the toilet got really plugged. And the floating toilet was so expensive! For my current house I bought American Standard Studio toilets and I am happy every day.

I can't understand these free standing bathtubs. First, I get cold unless there are doors keeping the warm air in, and I take a bath every morning to shave my legs, I can't do that in the shower, and I need to rinse off and wash my hair too. I'm lucky if I have extra time to relax. Also, those floating vanities look like something is missing, and they just sometimes feel jarring.

I personally feel like floating vanities are a nod to the future you or a family member. I've had 2 foot surgery's in the past 2 years and I wish I had a floating vanity so my metal boot would fit under it and allow me to stand at or roll up to the sink on my knee scooter. Cause a 4" toe kick just doesn't cut it...lol...it might look odd but it can increase the function of your bathroom and make cleaning your floors easier too.

There is no “organic” in any shape of any mirror, they’re just using it as a marketing term for “asymmetrical”. Blobby mirrors don’t evoke any kind of organic anything.

We will be updating our bathroom in a couple of years. I think I'll just go with a tub and have the shower built into the tub. I like a soaking tub sometime but mostly shower. Or maybe I should just have a huge shower with a built in seat and forget the baths. I just dont know 🤔❤
@pennymodern4 күн бұрын
That is a great question and something to consider as you update your bathroom! A tub shower combo can be a great option since it allows for both, especially if you only have one bathroom in the home. However, if it's your forever home and you want to use it through your retirement years, you may want to consider a walk in shower.
@candycane12753 күн бұрын
If this house is going to be your forever home, think about adding in ceiling bracing for a lift to get you in and out of the bath, decreasing the risk of a fall. Also, bracing for grab bars anywhere you think you might need it...extra power outlets, maybe one by the toilet for a bidet seat. It is so much cheaper to have these things added in while your walls and ceilings are open during the remodel. If you have a shower pan installed make sure they do a water test to make sure it doesn't leak.

Practical, high quality, easy to clean.. something timeless. I actually like high quality wood cabinets. Personally, I don’t understand the stand alone tub. They don’t seem practical to me. I see extra cleaning and you will have to wash the floor behind it. I’d rather have the tubs we have had. For me.. I am ready to get rid of the tub all together. I don’t take baths anymore and they are dust collectors. I’d like a large, doorless shower. No more shower doors and glass and shower floor level with bathroom floor. Also a nice bench inside. We never know when we will have some health issues and might need to bring a walker in the shower with you. That can happen at any age.

I'm with you. I had a real old fashioned bath room in a upper class not mansion but lovely huge home in Britain. The bath stood in the middle of the room and was built for baths only before they had running water. Fortunately, the older Lady and Mayor of the town added modernity to the home. 1st indooor running water. So that you didn't need to pay a great bunch of servants to bring the boiled water from the small oven/former chimney to try to get the bath hot. It also saved money on water. I would take long full to my chin baths for ages and get warmed up during their coldest wettest winter in 50 years. Yay. So when it came to putting a bathtub into the guest bathroon which was the easiest to put a bath in. , I chose a built in tub, for a longer equally deep bathtub. I barely got to use it before our youngest niece moved in until she graduates from college taking part time classes and working full time to be able to pay her own way through college. Then our youngest nephew moved in because his mom has terrible cancer and needed someone to take care of her son until she can make it out here somehow. And we have no more room. The oldest got my western bedroom and the boy got my quickly cleared out enough Craft room as his new bedroom. I was soo glad we didn't buy a free standing tub. That would have been a mess with kids. I'm very happy about my choice and I think that it looks lovely, with our own design and tiles. I had handmade somewhere between turquoise and grey green tiles that covered the back of the tub and the ends were shiny huge marble looking white with bits of grey design then slightly smaller but still long rectangular grey looking marble tiles on the floor. It works well even with kids using it all the time, it still looks gorgeous with an old fashioned finished white wall.

What are your thoughts on doorless showers?
@pennymodern5 күн бұрын
Hi Kenny! Do you mean creating a wet room type of shower or putting a piece of glass wall in that will contain the water?
@kennycardozo67345 күн бұрын
@ piece of glass that contains the water of the shower
@kdockrey4 күн бұрын
It depends on how large the shower is. A doorless shower is fine as long as the shower spray is contained within the shower and away from the rest of the dry bathroom.

Showers with no doors look great but are very cold.
@winterwanderland3 күн бұрын
I dislike doors all together. I think they all look cold. I prefer good old-fashioned curtains, but ones that are classy looking. Much easier to maintain, too. (Of course I understand it doesn't work on today's modern huge walk-in showers ) I had a glass door explode on me years back and I ended up in the hospital to peel shards out of my legs. Never any glass in my shower ever again.
