What do you consider moderate? A glass with each meal? Once or twice a week? Once or twice a month?
@DiabetesF2 ай бұрын
Excellent question! 'Moderate' can be somewhat subjective and may vary depending on an individual's overall health status, lifestyle, and dietary needs. Generally, we recommend incorporating nutrient-dense, low-sugar beverages into your meals throughout the week. But, it all comes down to balance and what works best for you. How frequently do you currently include these beverages in your diet? 💧

As a PhD in horticulture knowing something about wine I seriously doubt if there are any significant differences between the wines you recommend and other "red" varieties! Sure there is differences in the sugar and alcohol continent of different wines but more so based on style and region of production than on variety! the other compounds such as polyphenols are present in all red wines and although their levels may wary somewhat I doubt to a level that have any medical significance! But like your video anyway!
@DiabetesF2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your insightful comment and for bringing your expertise to this discussion. 🍷While red wines generally contain beneficial compounds such as polyphenols, the exact levels can indeed vary based on various factors, including the region of production and the grape variety. However, even subtle differences might have different effects on the body, which can be worth considering, particularly for individuals with health concerns like diabetes. 🩺Do you have any favorite red wine varieties that you would recommend to other viewers?

@@DiabetesF In general I like good full-bodied dry read wines! I should recommend South African Pinotage though! they may vary a bit in quality but try and find a good one! Tinta Barocca is an other less known but great variety!

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed response! 🍷 We respect your expertise in horticulture and appreciate your insights about wine. The variety and region certainly play a significant role in the composition of wine. Our video aimed to suggest wines that are generally considered to be more diabetic-friendly, based on existing research. Your point is well taken, and we always encourage our viewers to do more research and consultation with healthcare professionals. is Shiraz also syrah?
@DiabetesF6 ай бұрын
Great question! 🍷 Yes, Shiraz and Syrah are indeed the same grape variety. The difference in name typically reflects the style and region where it's produced. Shiraz often refers to the wine made in Australia, known for its bold and fruity flavors, while Syrah is usually from France, offering a more elegant and spicy profile. Do you have a preference between the two? Cheers to your health! 🥂

How about white wine?
@DiabetesFАй бұрын
Great question! While this video focuses on red wine options for diabetics, white wine can also be enjoyed in moderation by some individuals with diabetes. It's important to choose dry white wines, as they tend to have less sugar compared to sweet varieties. Remember to always monitor your blood sugar levels and consult with your healthcare provider when including alcohol in your diet. Do you typically enjoy white wine or prefer another type? 🍷

@jayyarnell47102 ай бұрын
You use value judgements rather than actual measurements to refer to low sugar, high acidity, high tannins, etc. You also point out, correctly, the misinformation and lack of transparency in the industry. Furthermore, The variables you discuss are more highly controlled by the wine maker than the varietal. While the generic descriptions of each varietal follow your descriptions, I have found (by accident) some pretty sweet bottles of every varietal.
@DiabetesF2 ай бұрын
We understand your point! Different varietals and wine-making processes can change the sugar content of a bottle of wine. However, our descriptions were made in general terms and further research to find wines that suit personal tastes and dietary needs is encouraged. Have you discovered any particular brands or types of red wine that you found to suit your needs? 🍷

Grape juice will have a lot of sugar just like eating raisins. Check the label for the volume of sugar. My doctor doctor stopped me from drinking any juice and smoothies from fruits. My HA1C hovers at 5.4 to 5.6 and I’m 76. 9:26

@@DiabetesF You just hinted at the problem. You can't enjoy a social occasion without using alcohol. I don't have a problem with it. The barman at my son's wedding recently didn't like me ordering a zero sugar soft drink.
