That is a great riff. I’m pretty sure that riff is why Burton got song writing credits. I remember seeing a picture on a documentary with their cassette riff tapes and Burtons list this riff as Bowie…. They made Bowles riff better in my opinion. I’m also convinced they ripped Tom Sawyer in the 2nd half of Sanitarium.

The post solo riff in Master of Puppets is from the David Bowie song “Andy Warhol” and the reason it’s on a Metallica song is because at the time of writing, supposedly Kirk and Cliff listed to a lot of Bowie. Leper Messiah is also a David Bowie reference, soo… 🤘

Phantom Lord's clean riff is the MOST IMPORTANT Metallica riff. Why? It's the first clean riff the band ever did and set the stage for Metallica even having a clean guitar setting in future songs.

Load era indeed awesome, it's got a song for everybody! Hero of the day and poor twisted me leitmotifs are awesome, and devil's dance is heavy as hell (what i'm saying is metal needs a little more echo). And Slither rocks, really ALSO totally agree with Struggle Within, that post solo riff is just mwah So short, too short Also too short and almost as thrashy as Through the Never (where is too much thrash and too little thrash? Who knows!) is that break on Don't Tread On Me. THA Headbanger!
