I’ve learned to stay tall and drive very well I recommend to pitcher who hits the right side of the zone when they don’t want to, to try and learn to drive your leading foot a bit more to the left so you’re more open, that helped me realize my body wasn’t open enough to hit the outside part of the zone when I wanted to

Once he separates his hands, it’s keeping that front shoulder closed and connected with his backside as long as he can down the slope. I recommend watching videos of former NY Mets Lhp Pedro Feliciano who had a good delivery and was very successful.

Loved it I pitched in high school with very little coaching and now trying to coach my sons 10u team I bought the pitching edge by Tom House. Great book but leaned toward tall and fall as better than drop and drive. Going through the motions myself I wondered how I was getting my big muscles (legs) into the delivery. It even uses Nolan Ryan as reference for tall and fall. Then watching him throw from clips you see he doesn't actually do that and really does do a drop and drive technique. I really appreciate your insight and levelheaded approach to teaching

Nolan has a continuation of motion or movement. He does not drop but he drives. His mechanics are very very good. Nolan does the slide about as good anyone I have seen. Then of course his oak tree legs grab the ground on landing and he release alot of power or explosivness. Not a fan of the drop and drive movent. It's all about rhythm and timing.

Great information. My son’s pitching coach has been teaching him to throw with his lower half since he’s been 7 years old. It’s great to hear that MLB level coaches are preaching the same thing. Good stuff.

Everything comes from the full body throw. Throwing the ball with only your arm is a recipe for injury. I preach getting in position to make a play. Take the angle, field and deliver.
@nofurtherwest3474
@nofurtherwest3474 7 ай бұрын
@@evanwainwright1289 My kid is 9 and pitched this past fall ball season. Slow pitches but a lot of strikes. What should he work on next? Just improving speed? I don't know anything about pitching. I told him to focus on getting it over the plate and not worry about speed. But there's another kid who's dad played in college and he has his kid throwing really fast but a lot wild pitches, and the kid starts crying. So I guess my ques is - for a kid starting out pitching is better to focus on accuracy over speed and gradually build up speed, or focus on speed over accuracy and gradually get more accurate?

Best video I’ve seen. Simple and has triggers in order to feel what the proper mechanics are. For instance if you are throwing a ball tucked in your hand you are losing control and speed. I always regarded holding a baseball like a pencil….feeling it by putting pressure with knuckles and more with fingertips. Allows you to precisely throw to a target not unlike darts. Very simple….besides….Nolan Ryan threw heat and was a great MLB pitcher. He probably wouldn’t make a travel team today because of his mechanics….stupid right.

I have been watching YouGoProBaseball videos for years. Madden knows his stuff. I like to read as well. I think I am convinced after watching this video that Coach Berrios' book is well worth it especially for those of us who coach youth baseball. Many of us parent-coaches want to do what is right for these kids as far as arm care. But in most cases, we don't have everything mastered and we don't fully understand what works well and what is quackery. After all, most of us aren't professional baseball coaches. I coach 11U travel. I want to see that our players are successful while at the same time not risking serious injury down the road. Too many high schoolers and even middle schoolers are blowing out arms. I am buying Coach Berrios' book on the recommendation of Coach Madden. I plan to take the information that I learn and apply it to the team that I am coaching.

Thank you for response to the video. If you’re looking for a book on true life pitching experiences, that cover the gamete, then this book is for you. I share what has worked and what has not to develop pitchers from the ground up. The book is filled with testimonies of the pitchers who applied this system and achieved major success. Unleash The Pitcher In You is an easy read that can be understood by a 10 year old to a Major Leaguer. I am confident that the information will help and develop the pitchers in your program. The book also serves as a resource for coaches. Thank you once again for you response to the video. Héctor Berrrios.

I have been working with my nine year old the last year. Batting and fielding are coming along nicely and he is currently playing 3rd and Short. He wants to learn how to pitch. We have mainly focused on throwing accuracy and we have been working to develop his knuckleball while staying away from the curve. What other pitches would you recommend him learn that would be less stressful on his arm as a learning pitcher.

An excellent video.... I actually fight coaches all the time over some of these very misconceptions. I also like the pitching catcher hanger with all the mitts. I I remember when I used to pay kids a buck a piece for all the balls they would catch in the parking lot. I would carry a bag of those balls on the road and go out to a sand lot and work on my rotations throwing against a fence. I loved how he touched on the finger aspect and the drop and drive, lower body... really good. - Coach Hollywood

My son and I have watched hours of Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver pitch, KZbin is great resource for that. I love most of the ideas in this video because they are closely aligned to how those two pitchers mechanics. There are so many pitching coaches out there that simply have no clue as to what they are talking about. Tom House is a prime example, Nolan Ryan did not pitch the way House describes in his literature, videos, and books. It’s sad really. The power T is one of the worst things every pushed on young developing pitchers.

Check out other pros... He's not wearing that glove in a traditional "finger in every hole" configuration... Some do two fingers in the pinky hole... Some even do three in the pinky hole... I assume he is running two in the pinky and has a big hand. If you think his fit is a trip, check out some pro outfielders, running three in the pinky is very common out there! Looks like half their palm is showing! Lol.

Ankle flexion is very important so that the heal doesn’t want to raise when the knee pushes a bit over the toes. This is important for any lower body exercise (squats,lunges) where you are creating force through the ground. If you watch the Japanese pitchers throw, they all have the same mechanics Tall (top, bottom) Squat (lower/rear leg) w/ front leg extending towards the base the pitcher faces That front heal stays even with front shoulder until the back leg is finished pushing the body forward away from the mound, then the front leg lands under the chest in front of the hips. There’s a lot of other little torque creating movements within the body but the frame is that.

The Express is my all time favorite. The guy was throwing in the mid to high 90's in his 40's!! But I have 2 words for you...Greg Maddux. I watched him early on with the Cubs, he would get in trouble and try to throw harder and harder, and would get hit harder and harder. It wasn't until he learned 3 things that he became a 4 time Cy Young winner (perhaps thanks to Leo Mazzoni ?)... 1. Movement 2. Location 3. Changing Speeds He could barely break 90, but he made MLB hitters look foolish.
