I love how even though a polish is thin, you don't write it off right away. Instead, you say "there are still designs where you would want a sheerer black". There's a purpose for all kinds! Love your outlook and your videos.

Oh, this is so interesting! I was surprised at the China Glaze- the colours are my favourites but their formula is normally not very opaque and a little bit garbagey - like the ORLY is here, the formula compared to the others is awful, it's not smooth at all! The Morgan Taylor and China Glaze are lovely and self-levelled nicely- Those would be my takeaway from this. That last one would be nice for using rainbow flakies to make a black opal design nail! Thanks Suzie

I have evolved when it comes to black nail polish. Back when I was a cosmetologist in the 80s I really hated black nail polish. At that time, only polishes in the purple/pink/red/orange/brown/nude/white ranges were available. Black was extremely rare and almost nobody ever wore it. Those who did were society's outsiders: biker chicks, punk princesses and prostitutes. It wasn't considered respectable. Over time I evolved. It's funny, but almost nothing looks classier to me than black super-glossy polish with a metallic striping tape accent. Ok, maybe a French manicure looks more traditionally classy, but high-gloss black just wows me now. Not to even mention that it's the base for all the coolest, most current nail looks like chrome, oil slick, and rainbow smoke. Interestingly, I am about to give myself a rainbow smoke mani. I received my rainbow pigment powders on Saturday, so I'm dying to try them out!
@emtims16706 жыл бұрын
I know it's so crazy now. I even remember that my mom wouldn't let me wear black or red polish! She said it was for adults. I had to wear pastels only, lol. I'm glad that has changed. I wore these colors when I was allowed to wear makeup at 16 years old. Now, black or red is my go to when I want a quick mani that always looks good.

Em Tims I agree, but I'm actually glad my mother didn't allow me to wear makeup until 15-16yo, nor plucking eyebrows or shaving in general. 20yrs later my skin & thickness of leg hair is definitely noticeable in that I get a lot of attention-people are always asking what's my skin care regimen & I simply wash & moisturize with drugstore basics. I still never have taken out a single eyebrow hair & they look fine. I'm not bragging by any means, just saying I'm glad I never started something I would've ended up regretting, mother knows best! I am most assuredly doing the same with my own daughters, now a generation of gene pool improvements mean they have perfect eyebrow shapes I'm not afraid to say I'm jealous of, yes I know it has nothing to do with never plucking, but they are really gonna outshine when they get older! Lashes too, so lucked out with Gene's Haha!

Shaving does *not* affect hair growth. At all. Ever. For anyone. It's an old wives' tale. Tweezing, waxing, threading or any other method of hair removal that pulls the hair out by the root _will_ affect the re-growth of hair. Some won't grow back ever, and what does grow back is finer that what grew there before. I know because I waxed my legs for 20 years. When I started waxing I had a normal amount of leg hair for a woman of northern European ancestry. My leg hair grew noticeably fewer hairs and finer hairs after waxing just a few times. It got thinner and thinner until I didn't have to do it at all by the time I was 40. It's best not to get carried away with this form of hair removal, and over-tweeze or over-wax the eyebrows. Everyone knows at least one woman over 50 who barely has any brows and can't grow them back anymore.

It would be interesting to see which wears the best out of the bunch. I think the China glaze polish would be the one I would buy because it's opacity is really good and the selling point for me is how small the brush is. I have such tiny finger nails so looking at how big the other brushes were, I would have polish everywhere! They have some pretty colors too so I think I'm gonna have to buy one. Thanks for the video!

I just bought Markatt'a black & white gel polish. I love their products & everything works fine. The coverage is wonderful, but the black takes forever to cure. Maybe my lamp isn't strong enough. The white takes 2x 60 seconds. I did the black like 10x 60 seconds & then I used a top coat which helped speed up the process.

I’ve been using Orly for years and LOVE it. One thing I’ve learned as a tech is that the most expensive polishes are not always the best. Now there are some cheaper ones I avoid if they have failed me 2-3 times. Another thing I’ve learned is that some pigments and finishes (cream, shimmer, matte, etc) are different across brands so it’s a matter of trial and error. Can you consider testing white polish. They are evil but so beautiful if you find the right one.

China Glaze "Liquid Leather" is my go-to for black. Funny, considering I find most of China Glaze's formulas to be very inconsistent, but they have gotten better in their more recent collections. Outside of various indie brands, it's the best black polish I have. I always like to test the black and white polishes of the brands I buy. I may have to try Morgan Taylor though. For indie brands, Live Love Polish "LBD" and Cirque Colors "Memento Mori" are my go-to blacks.

Hi Suzie, I love your videos. I have a quick question. I am not a professional by any means. I do my nails at home. I tried doing dip nails on my own and it was a total fail and then I tried putting a clear gel mani on my nails and that also was crappy and I was not patience in removing it. So now my nails are really weak and paper thin. I have been making it a point to use oil on my nails and cuticles 3 times a day and applying lotion whenever my hands are dry. How long should I give my nails to fully repair? Any recommendations on a nail harder that I should use to keep them from breaking they are paper thin right now they are tearing easily and breaking and snagging as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated because you are truly one of the best in the business.
