The two tone problem for customers can probably be fixed if the Nick website had an interactive feature where an image can swap out the colors of the section you choose. Overall, an interactive feature would be great for assembling boots and info about what they mean. Took me a few days to figure out what certain terminologies means and a their significance. Would have order my boots sooner and almost dropped buying boots from Nicks because it was starting to get complicated. Seeing what I was building in real time would have saved me a lot of time.

Will they make a 3 or 4 tone boot? Extra high, with toe caps, structured-steel toed? With the extra shank and light up soles? Can they also sew on stainless steel scale armor? That would be cool. I do volunteer rural fire fighting, but don't want the fireproof sole, that would be too much. It would be like I am trying too hard.

With the two-tone, I think people freak out with how different the colors are out-of-the-box, but when they give the boots more time and wear, they end up looking gorgeous when they're both darker neutrals. The left boot in the two-tone examples looks ridiculous because its fresh - the right one, where its seen some moderate usage, is beautiful. The variation in color on the vamp panel in the rolls and creases ties the colors together really well. I think if that left boot was given some time for the sole to darken up a bit, the toe and heel got some time for the fibers to take on some organic variation in color and texture, and the uppers were allowed to become less than pristine - get some nice rolls, take on a broader range of tone rather than just being all black, maybe dull up the hardware a bit and let the laces take on some color - it would be really striking and the type of boot somebody would be proud to be recognized by on the worksite.

Hey Gringo! Do you think they are as useful or comfortable when you're up in the air or just walking? I hate the shank so I always change boots before I climb. Old timers hate it because you should wear your uncomfortable climbing boots all the time like a man! So I always get steel shank for climbing and wear them as little as possible. Will these leather shanks support your foot for 12 hours or whatever?

@@richardpatterson4312 I am 6 ft, about 180 lbs. I was able to wear lineman boots all day. I think my height and weight helped in breaking them in. I like when I make a thunk. Realistically, only wearing them when climbing or outside is better. If you wear them all the time, the sole will last maybe a year or 2. If your job includes going into customers' homes, then having a clean boot and dirty boot is better.

@@chrisjones6165 absolutely, you'd probably have to relearn how to walk. The NFPA cert soles are NOTORIOUS for chunking with age, regardless of actual wear. It was so bad that when the department was looking for boots for me, one of their old stock boots literally crumbled first wear, and the other ones delaminated from the sole after a month. These were 'brand new' boots that had been on the shelf for 3+ years. Buy them only if your department requires it. I want to get Nick's but mine requires a steel toe so I'll have to get fitted in WA to make sure the sizing is right.

I want a pair of these so bad, but my work requires non-slip soles. Also, I work around a lot of acid, and frequently have to walk on floors wet with nitric acid. It's not like it's a deep puddle of it, just a wet concrete floor. I'm worried about damaging the boots like this, because the acid typically eats away the stitching in every boot I've worn. My wife keeps telling me to wait until I have an office job where I don't have to worry about damaging them. Lol, makes perfect sense- wait to buy nice work boots until I have a job that doesn't require work boots. Either way, I really really hope to get a pair later this year, really like the company and the style fits me great.

As a lineman for over 4 decades, I can attest to the fact that climbing shoes are very stiff and will not “break in” like regular work boots. If I wasn’t on the pole, I took them off and wore normal work boots. I never felt I needed the tall boots while climbing, once you are used to climbing, the leg abrasion is not an issue. Likewise, if a lineman properly adjusts his pant legs, abrasion doesn’t seem to be an issue. Brand new lineman usually do have abrasion issues on their lower legs until they really “learn” to climb, that’s why we called them “tender foot”. On the steel toe option, I wouldn’t wear them if it wasn’t mandatory, however the employer requires them, and I hate them. I don’t really need two color boots……

Is that the case with a leather shank such as in these boots? Is there any noticeable difference between leather and a steel? I have a pair of hiking boots with a plastic shank but it is insufficient for a long time in gaffs. I'm working as an arborist but am very new still. So I'm not sure if I will regret the leather shank.

I'm a size 15 extra wide. So I'm not terribly concerned with the boot feeling "bigger". I've already got massive claud hoppers.

I have three pair of steel-toed western boots, one pair steel-toed engineer boots and one pair steel toed, insulated logger boots. I've worn them all a lot, one of the western boots so much I wore out the leather on the inside of the toe, and other than that, I've never noticed the steel toes as feeling any different than any other boot. Even looks-wise, there's very little difference.

Plus it seems like most western boots are two toned. The shank is almost always at least one different color if not multiple.

I am thinking really hard about getting some of your boots. I wear all black uniform boots at work. Never had a pair last longer than a couple of years without getting uncomfortable. My only thing is whether to get rough in black so I can spit shine them for work. But I will be retiring in about 3-4 years and will want to wear them long after retirement. Don’t need shiny boots around the property. Decisions decisions.

I went with the builder pro all black moderate arch 10 inch. I don't need a steel toe nor do I like them . I went with the moderate arch as the high arch logger heel caps tend to hurt my feet . I went with the 10 inch because the 6 inch boots don't have enough ankle support and 8 inch is OK but 10 inch is way better for me I wanted a basic boot to fit my needs without alot of extras. Who knows after they arrive and I wear them I might order another pair with the high arch . I like to rotate my boots to extend the wear. I'm a farmer and mechanic. I'm tired of mass produced boots that don't last over a year . I'm looking forward to my builder pros . Hopefully I'll be a lifetime customer I'm sure I will as your reputation is extremely excellent!

Regarding #1: I think those 2-tone boots look great. As an old, retired guy (who only wore black boots while in the military), I'll probably stick to black boots. Nowadays, the military has pretty much gone to a coyote (or 'spice' colored) brown boot, anyway.

The future of at least the logger may be: Nick's hand made, or Carolina CA7522. CA7522 is the same thing as Red Wing Loggermax or Chip Super Logger, but it's right around $200 new. I see more and more people switching to it because of the price. Or of course if you want to spend more money there Nick's.

Nick’s accidentally two-toned my work boots…the uppers were the the brown I ordered but the bottoms ended up tan. They loo led like $700 bowling shoes. Apparently it was caused by a clerical error in their drop down menu. My options were to have them stained or wait another two-three months for them to be rebuilt.

My job requires safety toe shoes, so between that and 8yrs military it's odd not to wear boots. And all my motorcycles have the shifter setup for wearing safety toes, so tennis shoes makes it feel like my shifter is way out of wack.

Hoping to get a pair this year, good to know that the lineman shank is a bad idea. I do occasionally stand on the arch of my foot, but I dont think its worth having a super stiff boot!

Don’t you think that you were a little harsh on the #2 & #1 examples? First you grill the boot for being a safety toe boot and then as soon as we think its about to get let off the hook, you pull it back in and grill it again for being a two tone.
