After growing up riding my old man's 70's era Honda's I finally bought my own bike - a KTM 390! David, your videos are not only educational, but enjoyable as well. These have been excellent supplemental knowledge to the owner's manual for maintenance and I've even found myself even watching little videos like this. You put together great content!

@@MotoMirius 4:09 The fan will come on after literally no time at all with an ambient of 20 C even though you are going 20 mph. The laughably cheap n nasty TFT dash that cost KTM around US$25.00 from China is also erroneous as well. The temp gauge "bar graph" in fact does only register to a preset temp and then stops. I have 3 of the litre sportbikes from Japan and they have a fan as well, however unlike the fake TFT on these KTM's the digital temps are actually wired up and will read from nil to 40C or 60C or 80C or fans on at 100C and even to 115C if the fans can't even cope.

Just subscribed loving the channel I have a 2017 390 only thing I am confused about is the slipper clutch how to use it and how it works Thanks Paul
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. The slipper clutch in this bike is a simple ramp inside the clutch. The clutch engages and slips according to how much pressure is put on the clutch plates. The ramp simply allows the clutch to slip a little if too much torque is placed on it - like changing down without pulling the clutch lever in. But as with all things race oriented, the pursuit of losing a micro second off each lap comes with a price, and racing is very expensive, so whilst it's a great feature, using the clutch lever will place less stress on the clutch for those times when you aren't competing in a race. But when you want to hammer into a corner Supermoto style, well....

Abs only fully kicks in when it senses the front wheel locking. Stoppies rely on the front wheel still rolling so not locked when the rear wheel is coming up off the ground. If you lock the front wheel while the back wheel is in the air then you are probably going to crash! @@MotoMirius The 390 Duke is SO heavy for a tiny 40bhp engine it is ridiculous. KTM claim 149kg dry weight (less fuel, oil and coolant). Add these fluids and you now have a 165kg (wet) short wheelbase bike of small proportions yet which clearly needs to be in the 145kg (wet range to be competitive. Apparently Bajaj think differently. A 1987 Suzuki Gamma 500cc road bike had a wet weight of 175kg yet made 84bhp at the rear wheel. In 2023 it is NOT a masterful claim to produce a small bike of 373cc with today's technology that is 10kg lighter than a "fossil" yet produces a pathetic 40bhp. This is NOT progress. It's a joke.

The vast majority of owners are very happy. Bear in mind happy owners don't spend time posting to forums about how well their bikes are running. Those who have the smallest issue will post to every facebook group and every forum. This is especially true when their dealer is refusing to solve the issue for free - normally because the warranty conditions were not met or the bike has been poorly looked after. But of course this is never mentioned when people are complaining. Bear this in mind before making any assumptions about issues. There are some well known issues with certain KTM models - but no major or common issues with the small Dukes. A lot of the small Dukes have been made - if you make 10 million bikes and ten thousand have issues, it is still a small issue and well within what would be considered normal for mechanical failure.

Changing the throttle response profile won't give you more power, it just alters how much the throttle opens at different positions of the hand grip. I've not yet found anyone who has actually run one of these for this purpose on a dyno - most people are just looking to build or modify maps, so they aren't spending the extra money to test it on the different settings.

@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 3 жыл бұрын
I'm unconvinced that the ECU will help over much, but the larger injector can help. But it will only held if you have also increased the airflow sufficiently otherwise the ECU will simply reduce the fuel flow. Some argue that a larger injector can help anyway, others argue you need to mod the airbox otherwise there isn't enough air flow. Remember also that your fuel pump will need to be sufficient for the increased fuel flow.

All of the basics will work the same on the 125 as the 390 - de cat, debaffle, airbox lid, piggyback ECU etc and you'll find some videos talking about these on my channel. Be sure not to follow the advice for the pre 2017 bikes as these were different. Of course, I have to point out that unless you are locked into the 125 because of licence etc then the most cost effective way to get more horsepower is to change to a 390 - cheaper to sell the 125 and buy the 390, the price difference is less than the cost of the upgrades and a stock 390 will outperform the most highly modded 125 because it is a 125 with a 390 (three times the engine size) engine bolted in. @@ManojKumar-oc2ku This is why I do all my own servicing. Most of the videos on my channel, are showing how to do the basic services. Of course if you have a warranty to maintain then dealer service has to be done. But it doesn't mean that you can't learn how to identify what is going wrong - it will help when you talk the mechanics as it can be hard for them to diagnose a problem from a vague description. Good luck!

The supermoto mode changing throttle response doesn't seem accurate. I have read the owners manual for the 2019 390 and no where is it mentioned about the change in throttle response. I have riden bikes with riding modes, read their owners manual and change in throttle response is something that is clearly mentioned in the owners manual as it can lead to accidents. Try to make accurate videos and also include facts rather than speak about what you "feel", "think" etc etc.

Try reading the KTM description for the 390 Adventure Off Road ABS which uses the same ABS unit. Always best to do your research before.

@@MotoMirius 390 adv is a different bike with loads of additional features. How does the 390 adv having a feature, imply that even the duke should have it when the owners manual itself doesn't state it. ABS unit may be the same on both but that doesn't mean the rest of the things are also the same. Search for 390 duke in specific and share your results if you find them. Don't mix up features from one bike to the other.

Here's NO myth about these pieces of junk. They are all poorly made, suffer from dreadful QC, use very low quality components, are made to a price point of preposterous lowness in order to shift these things out the door. End of story. They are in fact "having a laugh".

Just like the small bikes from the Japanese manufacturers who also subcontract out the manufactur to other parts of Asia.
