07K Swap Kit: www.ninexengin...
In this weeks episode, we continue work on the VW 07K swapped Porsche 944. Is the Volkswagen 2.5L 5 cylinder a good engine to swap? We get the car back on the dyno and then take it for the first rip!

Many things to consider here: 1. Although the hp #s may not seem that different from the NA 944, the power delivery is completely different. The modern power curve is light-years beyond the stock Porsche motor. 2. Without any modifications to the rotating assembly, this engine will eventually spin 8,000 rpm at close to 200hp all day long. Again, a major different from the stock 944 motor but using the same displacement. 3. Mike has the prettiest eyes. 4. With head work and modified cams, this could be a 230 wheel hp, 8,000 rpm engine, all day long. 5. If you have custom ECU or tuning work done, Performance Electronics is THE place to go in the Midwest. A real quality shop with not just niche tuners, but real engineers. I've spoken my peace. Godspeed ya'll.
@BoostBrothersGarage
@BoostBrothersGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Regardless of the dyno numbers the factory engine was 158 crank (when new!) and this should be 220-230 crank when tuning is done. A 30% increase is HUGE! Also, couldn’t agree more with #3 😘

It's freaking amazing! If you know someone in an auto parts store you can look at other tensioners with stiffer springs you could swap into your tensioner. Also find a pulley with guides for sure.

There is something deceptive and effortless about the 07k despite its low power numbers. It just doesn't bog down or need to be wrung like a four cylinder. I took it up to the mountains last summer and made a 10 mile climb on a 3% (or more) grade without trouble. It didn't care if it was in 3rd or 4th. It just went.

Hey maybe something to look into, its a bit counter intuitive but having a pulley with a crown with the center larger diameter than the out side helps belts track center. Having edges when they jump will tend to bunch and tear belts too, this is because belts tend to walk to the tightest part of a pulley. I guess goes without saying having good alignment then if the tension is off as well will cause problems. You do have a lot going on details like this really bog the project down. I may be way off base but having metal idler pulleys with a good crown, I would think this would be in a machinist handbook, and maybe a manual tensioner in place of the spring. :D

I love the flat torque curve it has and am also really curious to see when the power will level off when the belt issues are sorted. VW really restricted that motor from the factory, guess they can't have an n/a motor upstate their 2.0t lol. I'd love to see a built n/a 07k just to hear it scream

@@BoostBrothersGarage makes sense to me! Boost delivers for the money and output. The only reason an NA build would make sense is if it somehow kept you in a more competitive race class or kept the car more reliable. That and just the preference for power band shape and delivery if the car was breaking or hard to drive with the extra torque. At this stage it's just not apparent how much that will matter. Looking forward to seeing how the cars do as you get deeper into R&D!

Boost Brothers Garage hey man thanks for the comment, thats nice to hear about that bolt pattern. here's my cars dyno run, kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpPMlK2kntZjnZI my plans if i ever get the funds are to put in some rs3 injectors( now on stock s3 injectors with a 165bar fuel return valve and upgraded hpfp and ttrs lpfp and controller) and swap my hybrid in for a tte480+ or a g25-550 but since it's a street car i like the hybrids power delivery. I was planning on putting a half cage in since i already have recaro buckets and rear seat removed, and some additional weight reduction like the aircon deleted, lighter exhaust etc.I live in Belgium near Zolder and spa is about 1 and a half hour drive from where i live.But unfortunately my project is on hold because i got my medical discharge 4 years ago, i have severe crohns since 2001 and i worked as a mechanic from 2004-2016 until my body collapsed, i only weight 53kg in the end so that was the end of my career unfortunately.But i get my enjoyment in these video's.It's nice to see projects like these.So big thanks for the content and the comment👍✌️👉

Wait....so a broken belt is now likely to to force you to spend two days pulling the engine out and replacing the 3d printed engine flange every time it happens? Instead of trying to make it never happen it seems better to just design it to handle the failure, right?
@timweaver9773
@timweaver9773 5 жыл бұрын
No. The belt broke which spiked the coolant temp, which melted a 3D printed prototype part. Once they figure out that the part will work they will have the actual part cast or machined out of metal and it will never be a problem.
@BoostBrothersGarage
