Playing to not lose since two decades. That does not work. Almost nothing to show for and even that I did not enjoy. Now, for the first time since 2004, I am enjoying language learning again.

@@languagetraveladoptee I am close to burnout overall, so I have limited energy to spare. Mid-December I hit rock bottom with languages (and last week with work), as the two I learned recently (Spanish and Italian) just remind me of work and are not fun anymore. Now I learn something that is fun (non-Standard language) and that I can actually use with a colleague. Finnish is way harder than Dutch back in the day, of course, but I have no fear, it's positivity that drives me, not the 'guilt' that I need to finalize the 'usual' languages the community and/or my employer expects me to.

Hi there!l'm absolutely fascinated by this mesmerising video that really covers all the fundamental aspects of the language and I believe that learning any language should be fun, engaging and convenient because I have been learning English for almost 6 years now .Although it's been quite the journey and it's fraught with lots of setbacks I thoroughly enjoyed every step of it because l had wondrous conversations with people from all walks of life. Furthermore, l made wonderful and incredibly supportive friends along the way which is truly one the best highlights, however, l'm not seeing any progress in regards to my speaking and writing skills and no matter how many conversations l have l still can't speak it as fluently as I'd like to. I've been listening to lots of podcasts, reading books, and watching English media, yet l can't convey my thought without feeling mentally exhausted. So my question is why do l feel like l'm forcing myself to think in English and how can l solve it? I'd deeply appreciated it if you respond to my comment. ❤

Hey! Love hearing more about your story. There could be a lot that's going on behind just the language acquisition strategies you've been practicing. The fact you're feeling exhausted is really important and getting curious about that. I'd love to offer you a discovery call to see how I can best help you!: calendly.com/languageadoptee/30min

I think this channel is quickly and happily becoming like Kulture Study: A Form of Therapy except for language lovers. Yep, I was beating myself up on Sunday for not having diligently studied Korean for a long time. But having a Korean woman answer me in only Korean (the group was playing icebreaker bingo in which we had to ask other people questions in either Korean or English) and not understand most of it provided me with the right motivation to redouble my efforts again. Next time I intend to understand most of what is being said and respond even if I must speak slowly.

Hey Chris! So glad you're enjoying the direction my content is taking (your take is spot on, therapy for language lovers!). I love the small steps you're taking, do update us next time you go to the meetup group what happens with Korean!
