If you can, put your HVAC system on circulate. This keeps the air moving and it’s less likely to smell stale or mildew-y. Most are programmed to run a max of 20 minutes per hour, less the time it ran the heating or cooling. It can add to the wear and tear on your system, and it will obviously use more energy, so I set a schedule to let it run like that for a few hours at a time. I also use a fabric sanitizer spray for carpets, the couch and chair, mattress, and other fabrics that aren’t way to wash. I prefer OdoBan. It has a really nice fresh smell and it kills the odor causing bacteria. I have a dog so I try to stay very aware of smells in my home.

I love these tips, anyone wanting to try these please research any candles, essential oils, and sprays you’re using though if you have pets. I was using all these essential oils that are great to repel bugs and are unfortunately toxic to dogs. Even the baking soda on the mattress before vacuuming for example. We have to keep our fur babies safe ❤.

Easiest step for me was to use washable rugs and slip covers. Upholstery can hold bad smells so it's so easy to just chuck them in the washer to clean them.

Dont put baking soda in the carpet. Vacuum is not designed for sucking it up. Just put cups of Baking soda around the house for a few hours. Then throw away.
