Ok but I do like the idea of a left handed oil test. It belongs in a similar space as rubber-ducking. No its not a sex thing. Basically coders take a rubber ducky or something, and they explain the thing that they're struggling with to the rubber ducky. Usually explaining it helps folks figure out what's wrong. I'm gonna implement the left handed oil test into any designs I do in the future.

Dwight Schrute the left handed oil test isn’t meant to mimic a chronically pilot hand but rather give an idea of how someone who has issues with their hands in regards to dexterity and grip. People with Parkinson’s or arthritis would have issues with using their hands in the way that non disabled people are able to

As someone who has dexterity issues (and am so glad he takes that into consideration!) the fish has an additional problem with how you absolutely can't *squeeze* it (after the initial yolk suck) without breaking the yolk. I have bad tremors that sometimes turn into finger twitches, and I can just imagine how many broken yolks I'd have using goldie (or a water bottle).

i think the water bottle would be much safer for that in that case because it does have more room where the yolk isnt to squeeze it, so it wont break. but in the fish it takes up all the space so you squeeze right where the yolk is

The in the shell scrambler I could see for making "golden eggs" which is a hard boiled egg, but scrambled in the shell first. The biggest issue I see is that it would be hard to tell if you had spun it enough times before boiling the eggs.

I've been binge watching a handful of Well Equipped, and something that came to mind was from Mythbusters when Jamie said something along the lines of "Overly complicated designs are the mark of an inferior desginer". Shows like this are great at testing gimmicky products that are meant to attract the witless, and regardless if Dan was using a gadget incorrectly, that just harkens back to overly complicated design saying.

I've owned the egg top cracker for a long time now, use it all the time for my soft boiled eggs with no issue at all. The egg tops come off clean every time. I do not rest the egg in the cup, I hold it in my left hand with the right hand pulling the plunger. When I first got it, I had similar issues with them not cutting cleanly, found it was a confidence issue... just have to trust the device and let the spring snap.

At home I have an egg cracker that's just a metal hat for the egg with a stick going up and a dense metal ball, you just lift the ball and let it drop onto the hat thingy, no springs required. It works really well and is easy to use. Fun fact: I'm from Germany and here it's called Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher, which roughly translates to 'cause of defined egg shell breaking point'

4:37 In Germany we call it an Eierschalensollbruchverursacher (eggshell-predetermined-breaking-point-maker) and I think that is beautiful. Edit after actually seeing the part: Normally it is a thin longer metal rod, with a metal ball just sliding on it, which makes it way easier to operate. Also it is not supposed to cut through the shell, because that might destroy the inner egg. It is supposed to create a predetermined breaking point, just like the grooves in Chocolate bars. The German name for it makes it more obvious, obviously.
