Schools are useless... Never learnt anything there. Apart from reading and the bases of maths. Filmschool, same stuff. True Stroy: When my colleagues and I entered filmschool our first homeworks were shooting simple conversations. Now guess what. They were much better at the beginning than when we finished school. At the end our Shortfilms sucked big time. Why? Simple... Creativity is strongest whit lack of knowledge.

One of the biggest and important aspect of videos and film is sound. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a tutorial how you record your sound effects like birds flapping their wings, footsteps, sounds of water etc! Thanks and very informative

Brandon Li Question: to achieve the look when you slowly keyframe the shot to zoom in or out, how far can you push it when shooting only in 1080? (% wise in FCPX)

about 20% in a brief shot. The longer the shot, the more the audience will notice a lower quality image

Great and original video, once again! It's kinda interesting how you can get away with compression artifacts / lower resolution / etc. when digitally punching in, granted you follow this hectic editing style.

OwnLine. . 2 months ago (edited). . 0:07 1st demo 0:40 2nd demo 0:45 #1 Simplify your shots : Center your subject Zoom in on your subject Use silhouettes 1:36 #2 Punch in/out of your subject : Start wide and immediately Punch in Start closer to your subject and Punch out wide 2:03 #3 Keep the same screen direction from shot to shot : If your subject is going in wrong direction, sometimes you can flip the shot Add a little bit digital zoom If shot is static 3:07 #4 Follow a dominant shape/color/luma between shots : 3:30 #5 Establish a cause/effect between shots : You start the story in one shot finish in another shot

Great tips. The small digital zoom is one I'm also using And is very effective. Great scenes too.

@@amityfilmmaking Correct, but to get around this is to shoot in a resolution above what is needed. So you may shoot in 4k if you want to digital zoom and the final render is in 1080p as an example.

I am still so bad at fast-cut-editing, and even some of the tips you shared here I have figured out on my own, I never saw shuch a well-explained tutorial on that matter! Thank you! I love tutorials for things that are seemingly obvious, and many of us already do instinctively, but when broken down provide us with a much greater sense of control and purpose of our editing workflows. Really helps me jump over that especially tricky bar that distinguishes the good from the great.

Yes and no. It gives the effect of a dolly zoom but he is talking about using your editing software to zoom in by increasing the scale between two keyframes.
