I use Krita. The large variety of brushes makes it really simple to create textures for you backgrounds, like if you want to add grass, clouds, water lines, a frickin mountain, etc, there's a brush for that. It works good for short animations, too.

Actually, there are LOTS of problems in Flipaclip, like the lack of brushes and of the stabilizer. I mean, it is great, but it is really simple. I’d rather use Krita or export tons of png. files drawn on another programs (like MediBang, that is free) and export to a video editing program like Blender

This video is so helpful! I just got my first drawing tablet so I can finally move on from Flipaclip and I was a little daunted by trying to find the right programs. Most of the big animators and artists I tend to see use Paint Tool Sai or Photoshop and Toonboom or Adobe Animate, but I'm only animating as a hobby, I'm not getting money from it so I can't really afford those. This video just lays everything out for you and shows how each of these apps compare to Adobe. Honestly I was a little shocked by how much they can do. Thanks for making this so much easier for us beginning animators 😊

The only issue with free animation tools is that they normally lack a lot of features of the paid's ones. Which is fine and all but if you really want to get deep into animating then you are going to want to learn a proper suite eventually, which means you might be doubling the learning time. But yeah, for determining if you really want to get into animating then free apps are great!

But the more expensive version, the EX, as the Pro is very limited. I have it, and I believe is just some seconds of animation allowed. The ability of handling many comic pages, or the more advanced 3D features, and exporting to epub formats, is not stuff I need for now, but the ability of importing a PSD WITH layers, instead of flattened to one, when it is a CMYK mode file (a regular RGB PSD layered comes in with layers)... heh, yeah, that's a reason enough for me wanting the EX in the next discount offer. A client sends u a such file, and is a ton of rework or impossible mission. I use CSP for absolutely all my sketching, inking and painting, tho. Is the absolute best for me in that. That said, twice a year the Japanese company makes a 60 or 40% discount of all products, one only needs to be in a newsletter or sth to be aware and fast. Still, I voted up the comment.

Clip studio does have some cool animation features, it reminds me a lot of how it's implemented in Krita. Also I have the cheaper version of CSP so I'm a bit limited in what I can do with it.

​@@thebradcolbow Actually, it seems both were more or less implemented at same time, I mean more or less the anim features were added in both around 2015/2016. But celsys had a really longer experience in the past with animation software. That said, Krita's first beginnings in general are really old, around 1998 ( ain't much younger CSP, aka manga Studio before, and aka Comic Studio before that, csp saw the light in 2001) , if I'm not wrong. But only got promotion, and released in the usable and more complete and solid status as we today know just a few years ago. As a standard tool, fully functional since day one, for comics and other illustration, Manga Studio is way older, in that sense... I'd be inclined to think Krita got the inspiration - if they got it from somewhere- from CSP, not the opposite situation. Krita does that, tends to implement stuff , tho quite differently than the original, stuff, features that they seem to perceive as best implemented in A or B package, and get the idea from those. My 2 c, tho.

Anox TheFighter check out Doink. It’s the closest thing I found to flash. Animation studio pro is another one. Personally I use rough animator.

Man, I wish I had a drawing tablet, I bought an iPad to try to animate, draw and stuff but now I see that so many animation programs aren't in here... I wish I knew this before buying

I tried OpenToonz, and it was very confusing for me. 1.) The tools are confusing. 2.) I don't know how to change the texture of the brush. 3.) I can't find the layers. 4.) Whenever I draw on the paper, it first pixelates it and then draws it as a normal brush would. If anyone would tell me something about OpenToonz, then I'm open.

When i was in my early 20s (i am in my mid 40s now)i took a course in traditional animation (we are talking pen and paper a video camera), just because i love animation and want to know how it was done. I was looking up something for my friend and your vid came up. Made me think maybe i should try animating again. Just to do something to kill time. So thank you for the idea and list of sodtware.
