Billy Mitchell shines on Thad Jones’ first two Blue Note albums. This album though is a great showcase for his powerful sound. Great video!

I enjoyed this video immensely - you give excellent advice on underpriced label variations. I need to check out Billy Mitchell more closely and I am very glad you spoke about Dinah Washington. Her 60s Roulette output was too orchestrated for my taste but her Emarcy releases are just awesome. You also mentioned a saxophonist who did your favorite version of Yesterdays but could not make out the name.

Thanks Mario! Glad you enjoyed it! I mentioned Paul Gonsalves, he’s an amazing tenor saxophonist who mostly gets recognized for his time with Ellington but I think his personal works are just as good!

Really good video.. There are two Billy Mitchell albums on the Xanadu label that are very good- "The Colossus of Detroit" & "De Lawds Blues".

My favorite lesser known record is Mingus Tijuana Moods. Maybe it's not as lesser known as the things you mentioned but it's incredible and quite ahead of its time. Ysabel's Table Dance is ridiculously good and has hints of far out stuff that would come in the 60s.

Good call on the Dinah. The first time I've heard it on vinyl was actually the VMP, and while they don't do the best quality job 100% of the time, that particular title is phenomenal

Hey Ryan, Thanks so much for the video! Great records man! I gotta admin that tuba album did not do much for me personally but the rest are amazing. I added that Left Alone record to my list last time you showed it and originals seem to be impossible to find even for crazy money. How do you like that Japanese Bethlehem repress? Does it sound alright? That is an amazing record - sooooo good. Thanks again for doing the videos! Cheers.

Japanese pressings are the best in the world, for info.

I picked up Max Roach’s Deeds, Not Words on Riverside just because Ray Draper, and I wanted to have tuba in the collection. He has killer solos on it. Prices are all over the place, but I found a super clean OG mono for $30. Def recommend. Great job!

This is Billy Mitchell is a really great record! Great choice dude. I’m not familiar with Chuck Wayne either…will have to check that one out! Totally agree that there’s tons and tons to check out in the blue trident label era…so much to dig into. Really good info here. Jazzland is another label with a lot to dig into and a lot of affordable albums too. Cheers man!

Great video! I've been wanting that Carmell Jones record for a while, but they're fairly pricey online and I have never found it in the wild. I did recently pick up a Bud Shank/Carmell Jones record called New Groove on Pacific Jazz -- it is excellent, def check it out. -- Mike

You are on a great streak with these videos. On the other hand, there are several others such as Ken Micallef's Jazz Vinyl Audiophile and The Jazz Shepherd going deep on Jazz and the mid-1950s to 1980s jazz. What might be great for you and your subscribers is more current jazz - Pay Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, Trombone Shorty, Bill Frisell, Diana Krall, the Marsalis family (each and together), Marcus Miller, John Scoffield, Christian McBridge, et all and their huge discography. Each is current and you could see them locally and at festivals.

Billy Mitchell is a fantastic musician, totally forgotten and not known, a big huge shame. He came from Woody Herman in 1949.

So the Mal Waldron LP cost $18.99; I chuckle a bit that the LP was only 99 cents. More LPs I'm not familiar with, though I've heard of some of the artists. If I keep watching this channel I'll end up spending money, I'm sure!
