When I click on a video and I see such a young guy listening to Jazz and collecting records this is great. So good to see the interest in real music of young people.

I’m impressed, sir. And it’s great to know that a young man is so into jazz and so knowledgeable regarding jazz records and recordings. I subscribed. Keep them coming, brother.

Hi Ryan.. some solid choices here. I was at the Lighthouse when Lee Morgan recorded there in the summer 1970. I went three nights and the band was on fire. So happy that blue note captured some of that fire on tap. I met Lee on one of those sets. JMac was a dear friend of mine and a heck of a musician. Keep digging the music and it’s creators and the rewards will be endless.

Wow that’s amazing! I often wish I could go back in time to meet my favorite artists, I always hear in interviews how down to earth Lee was especially with how he taught many up and coming trumpet players from those days, even Jackie! I’ve seen a few videos and seen some accounts of how dedicated he was to teaching music majors at Hartford college.

You have an impressive amount of jazz knowledge for such a young guy. I liked seeing these pieces of your collection. You mentioned not wanting to play valuable records too much so that they don’t get worn out. That’s what we used to have cassette tapes for! Get yourself a cassette deck and tape all your vinyl. Then listen to the tapes.

I admire your chase for OGs. At my age I’m just going for decent copies now - but blessed with some OGs too lol Keep taking advantage of that youth! Great list. You have tremendous taste but your enthusiasm and love for music and jazz is what makes the video. Glad you are feeling better from covid. Air Raid is so good by Grachan. I’m thrilled it’s getting new life and new love. Important album. Loved seeing Merle!

Thanks! I figure that since the prices have gone up and I’ve gotten enough early copies and ogs maybe I’ll shit my focus in the reissues! Definitely don’t wanna regret passing them up

Thanks for another great video Ryan. Interesting to see your non-jazz favourites too. I also love the Desperado album. It didn’t sell that well back in the day. I don’t think the record label knew what to do with it.

Thanks Eric!! I figured I’ve only shown jazz thus far and it’s not the only thing I like😂 Also I never knew it didn’t do well, at first it seemed puzzling but I realized that the themes are kinda inconsistent. I talked with my dad about it and he thinks it was because they each had their own writing styles and the album featured each of their own songs, definitely pretty interesting!

I can identify with the not listening to music much statement. I haven't been either, especially records. Things are hectic with me too. I think also it started when I had covid, but that was in 2020. Keep up the good work with your videos. I enjoy them.

Dude for a young guy you have a really good Ear for some classic jazz, something i didnt get really until my mid to late 30’s. I will say i understand the feeling to not play your expensive records but listen to them and love them while you can, thats what they are for. Take it from me an older dude who has been lucky to find some great older records

You must have a picture of an old man in the attic Ryan ! Tremendous collection for one so young, and such a wide taste. It took me many years to get to where you are already. I love all your picks and you come across as a really nice guy too. I've subscribed.

Excellent video, your passion is evident. I love Coltrane as well, and Soul Trane is also my favorite release of his, but I will check out the live one. You must also be familiar with Eric Dolphy? He's my favorite jazz artist for certain. Good stuff. I watch Aidan's channel as well. I will visit Donovan's.

This was an inspiration to watch. You really convey your love of music and of vinyl so genuinely and eloquently. I'm wondering if one of your copies of Coltrane Live at Birdland is the original pressing. The album's original pressing accidentally included a false start-- this was corrected in later copies, but restored to the CD version.

Thanks for another amazing video man! Your videos are just so informative, inspirational, and thoughtful. I love hearing you talk about these albums and I learn from you every time. I was able to find a decent OG copy of Jazz Way Out after your last video and OMG - that's a phenomenal album. One question: you mentioned the 3 Wilbur Harden albums on Savoy... which ones did you mean? I've got Tanganyika Strut on my list but it's so hard to find. Thanks so much for your videos! Fantastic albums. Would love to read your 15 page paper 🙂

That’s amazing! Sometimes I find rare records right after I see them in videos, it’s seems much more than a coincidence😂 Also the third album is “Mainstream 1958” it was the first recorded of the three and I’ll link the paper in my next video as well! I’m working on my 3rd essay now which has to do with the art of jazz like Reid Miles and Warhol. Greatly appreciate the support!

Fantastic list! I would have to think long and hard about my favorite jazz records so I couldn't simply write them off here I agree with you about Coltrane - Live At Birdland. Top ten for me too but I know for certain my favorite country album is Willie's Nelson - Stardust. The way he covers American classics is chilling and extremely sincere. I hope your COVID bout wasn't bad and you're doing well!
@amanandhismusic2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Willie Nelson’s stardust is a great album definitely underrated considering that was one of the records he covered jazz standards rather than country oriented songs. Also I’m doing a lot better! I had it for a week and half and somehow got it worse then my parents. Definitely drained me compared to the flu or anything else I’ve had

I sold a big stack of liberty era represses of blue note stuff like 10 years ago, I got about 10-15 bucks a piece for them. I needed the money for rent and figured the liberty/united artist era stuff would be easy to find again. A lot of those pressings are 100-200 a piece now 😢

I’ve stopped Going to Record Stores in the last year. I went to my favorite new and used store ( aren’t they all now?) and was astonished at the prices. No effing way am I paying $100 for a badly worn copy of a Miles Davis album you can find anywhere online for less than half That price… I mean, I’m sorry they have overhead but the business model Doesn’t work anymore
