The people who thought that the creators of Max Headroom would be a good fit clearly didn’t understand what Max Headroom was. He was a dark and cynical character that espoused satirical and misanthropic takes on 80’s politics and culture. A studio taking the character at face value (no pun intended) and thinking his makers would be great for a Mario Brothers movie is ironic on way too many levels.

Well he might have eventually appeared in some format on MTV at some point, but wasn’t created for MTV. This was ultimately what made the character great. He became this pop culture icon but it missed the point which made it so much better.

I mean as a godzilla movie, 98 fails. However, as just a monster movie it's not bad. A creature that is not god-like and can be injured/killed, something just trying to survive. It was enjoyable for myself and those who can look past it being a Godzilla movie. Not to mention the animated show gave us what Zilla should have been, fighting other monsters, atomic breath, regenerative abilities, intelligence, Ect. Also love the longer format videos, nice to listen to it as work drags on.

I remember working at Sears when the movie came out, and we received boxes of kids clothes for the movie. But the labels had these huge DO NOT OPEN UNTIL...I think it was the week before or something. It was before the design came out. Once those clothes came out, we were all like "it's a big iguana".

@@christinhell Rifftrax Live is basically a live version of a Rifftrax (basically Mystery Science Theater 3000, bunch of comedians making fun of movies as they're playing) movie. Unfortunately, there's not a visual recording of it anymore, as they can't do that with licensed movies like Godzilla, but there is a "just the riffs" only version which is basically a normal Rifftrax commentary track you can play over the movie itself

They really wanted to make Jurassic Park. They tried to turn Godzilla into Jurassic Park. I saw this in theaters as a teen and was so disappointed I loved Godzilla as a kid.

For Mortal Kombat, they really could have been the first example of an MCU-length plan; Have each movie introduce two or three major characters that as friends (Sonya, Jax) or foes(Scorpion, Sub-Zero/Bi Han), and have Shang Tsung and Raiden at odds while preparing for the first tournament, THEN just like the games, lather-rinse-repeat, but with Shang Tsung now visibly taking orders from Shao Kahn, who at this point is absolutely a Thanos-level threat. I guess the power of the cooky-ness and zany-ness of the 90's was just too over-powering.

Maaaan, I really wish Dark Universe actually panned out. As much as I hate shared universes and such I'd love for a resurgence of The Mummy-esque adventure-horror flicks to come back. If you look at Batman & Robin as an updated Batman 66, it comes off a lot better. Not great, and not the intent, but it has the same level of campiness and goofiness, just done in a more modern way. Makes it easier to digest, but still not something I’d want to sit through a second time.
