As someone who has painted many cars, on anything semi-gloss or higher, every time you let go of the trigger you need to start spraying outside your area so it is already flowing by the time the paint stream comes in contact with the piece being sprayed. It prevents imperfections which show up in high gloss paints.

Amazing work. I don't know how you all are keeping the atomized paint from settling on things all throughout the house. I see that you have a lot taped/bagged off, but at one point you were spraying trim next to what appeared to be a wood door. Was the atomized paint under tight control, or did you have plans to repaint that brown door, and you didn't care about contamination?
@chipsNsalsa6 жыл бұрын
Looked like that was the front door and it was caulked n preped for paint. I'm guessing it needs to be primed still before putting final coat on so he didn't spray it in the video. Which the priming is normally done already before finish coat but he may not have done it yet for video or timing purposes. Who knows.

@@matthewaguirre9206 you have tear out on the drywall. I have found that a better controlled technique with less over spray plus and flat palm sander and sanding sponge after to scuff it well. I recommend door stackers for spraying doors if you have more than a few to paint. Takes a little setting up but we've found them extremely good. Can flip the doors and paint both sides. Nothing up against the wall. All stacked nicely to the side while drying. Best part is if you put the paint on a little thick, the paint won't start sagging.
@torrejaful6 жыл бұрын
I recommend door stackers too. but be aware that warping can occur if doors are left too long in a horizontal position.
@chrislane17972 жыл бұрын
We use door brackets that screw into tops of doors. Standing them up in the middle of a room connected together at a right angle from each other. Able to spray both sides without touching the door, and spray all doors at same time. From prime to finish. Only way to go if doing more than a single door.

Did John say he is using a 310 tip? Do you use that with Emerald urethane? I notice he makes several passes on the same stock. The can says to go with a larger tip, but I feel a 314 or a 214 puts too much paint down.
@nouseforaname68466 жыл бұрын
A bit much rist movement, keep the gun facing straight on and equal distance away from what you're painting as you spray it. Start moving the gun ever so slightly before you pull trigger and keep it moving after you let off trigger to prevent any build up or lap marks. Not a critique, just proper technique.
@Idahopainter6 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for sharing Audy!
@ChronicBronchitis-mz2vn4 жыл бұрын
I was kinda amazed to not see the finger feather technique on the doors. You can minimize overspray by letting off the trigger as you hit the end of your piece, but you need to remove the extension. A 515 tip is a bit more efficient as a commenter stated earlier. My back hurts just thinking about the extra times I would need to bend over with the 300 series tip.
@brooksbroberg63073 жыл бұрын
No matter how I feather it, I have way too much splatter when I stop the spray. I'll try this technique.

I tilt my doors at a bit of an angle and keep them spaced apart so overspray doesn’t affect the finish. I also spray the heel and toe before I shoot the whole door. Technique could be improved with 2 of the guys. But I agree that trim looks better when you’re able to spray it as opposed to brushing ( in some instances) Also think the pressure should’ve been lower seemed a bit too high for me. Def seemed like the high pressure could’ve caused some overspray on your finished ceilings. Being a painter we are all particular to how we do things. Great video though love the gear #painterslife

Runs and sags are caused from 4 things: sprayer pressure is set to high, not the right tip for finish work, to much over lap, and hand stalls, learn how to adjust the pressure on your sprayer, use correct tip, watch the fan overlap, watch for any pause time, move move move. I don't understand why they use the tip they do in this vid, Size 210 fine finish is the way to go. And listening to their pump the pressure ajustment is on the highest setting. The orange peal has to to be outrageous.

@John Sickler I agree with John popping the door off the hinges is fast compared to taping everything surrounding it.

John Sickler often the hardware will move or if you would want to change the hardware, it’s better to have the surface under match

If I'm painting for a home owner's job who opens that door every day... the hardware comes off. If it's a rental, a lease or a resale, it stays on. Sorry renters, leasers, buyers... time is $$.

Always do the part that is the face or focal point last on every scenario here. For ppl watching you want that area done last so there’s a nice smooth even finish and no overspray onto the face after you done the face. For ppl just starting it takes a little practice holding the trigger nonstop because if you don’t stay moving you will overload an area and get runs. I personally don’t do a constant trigger on many things and it’s truly not necessary and there is a risk of overload. When that one guy gets back to spraying the baseboard he’s already blasted that corner 2x3 times and will do it again on the next wall base board. A lot of this stuff is how you are trained and what you feel comfortable doing and mastering that. Just like anything-some ppl cut in walls or paint windows different-we had a guy that could beat anyone in painting windows and I’m talking old style windows with the glazing on Victorian homes without taping -the guy was a crackhead and could do 3-4 windows in the time a great painter could do 1-1.5 windows and they were done perfect but it was his own style. Problem was you’d pay him and not see him for 4 days bcuz of crack. My 10 yr old son types 225 words per minute with 100% accuracy and it’s his own weird style-the teachers tried to fail him because he wouldn’t do it the normal way. So i freaked out and said if you can find any adult or kid in this school or the high school that can beat him I’ll give you $5000. No one was close. Then i checked and the world record was only like 240 which by now he probably is close but they tried to fail him in typing computer class - totally ridiculous -Point is-pick a way and master it.

Best $100 I ever spent for paint accessories. Especially when you need 40"+ extension. Then it's a must. I use it with no extension. I got so used to it when I sprayed a gun without it, it seemed like the normal 'in gun' needle reacts SO slow when the trigger is released.

So trim is usually shot in semi gloss & the walls & ceiling are matte?

Hi guys just a quick question we are spraying trim with a graco ultra cordless with water based undercoat, how ever we are geting a orange peel like finish, any ideas?

Painter number 3 did the smoothest application, he stayed on center with the spray pattern, bending his body and not his arm. Prep fell short, more masking, especially a chandelier which cannot be cleaned if fouled by over spray, also, why are the switches and receptacles not taped? They are a pain to clean. Where's the General? Why isn't he up your ass on this?

Never seen a “professional” spray doors without removing handles ...and get them off the walls with sticks. Paint buildup will be noticeable. Hacks.

Thank you for your info. Just started warching your videos from New Zealand. Looking for your online shop for that cardboard holder & tips cleaner tin. Oopps, just found it, Im learning at 90MPH Would be nice to hear when you squeeze trigger by saying.. On... Off, On... Off so I can see Exactly where your cut off spraying point is. Thank you

Learning how to use a "spray shield" the right way eliminates all that over spray. You are using a production spraying method. You are over spraying the finished ceilings?

Yeah I agree I get that a lot, However I break alot of guys from some old bad habits and make their jobs easier and more efficient which saves me money and gets me a higher bottom line This "extra savings" gets passed on to the employees as bonuses, So I actually make a game of it on who can save the company the most money How do you do it? (I love giving out bonuses )

A lot of assumptions you make!
@pintorthepintor39644 жыл бұрын
@@Idahopainter What do you mean assumptions? Did you even read what he said? The evidence of his complaint is in your video, you hit the finished baseboard behind the doors with overspray. That makes a rough finish that has to be sanded.
