Great to see a good bit of DIY happening, spraying is definitely the way forward. The only thing I’d say as a professional sprayer is that you should make sure you’re using the right mask. That JPS mask looked like it was only a P3 or P3R. This won’t actually filter out airborne paint particles, they will still get into your lungs. You need a mask with ABEK1 or AB1 as a minimum. Otherwise you are risking your health. Just a pointer! Happy spraying 👍🏽

So ... if you have touch ups from hanging pictures/shelves/bumps how will you respray without masking half a furbished room? As I am making a living from painting and decorating I don't see rollers and brushes go anytime soon.
@streaky812 жыл бұрын
P3R will be more than good enough for filtering out (water-based - which we should all be striving to use where possible for a long long list of reasons) paint particles, these things stop viruses that are massively smaller than the smallest paint particles you're going to see. An ABEK1 filter is for _vapours_ which are a whole different kettle of fish, if you're working with the sorts of vapours where you need that you're going to have the same issue with a roller - though I agree if you are you absolutely should.

I use the bigger version of this for doing empty full house jobs, it has proved to be an invaluable tool! One issue I found kept happening was when I used the clear decorators film it “held “ moisture from the spray as it’s obviously waterproof. It caused the paint to run down & off causing a lot of clean up. Also it had a tendency to act like a sail as the air hit it. I switched to the brown masking paper car sprayers use. Because it’s slightly heavier it stops the sail effect, it also soaks and holds any overspray. Hope it helps! Cheers for the vid.

I've bought the same type of Wagner unit as shown here and I concur with all the comments. I think it is the way forward with home renovation (at least) and the only "downside" I experienced was the additional mask out required (particularly ceilings). To give you an idea, my lviing room ceiling is approx. 50sqm with massive plaster cornices (150mm) all the way around. When painting using brush roller, just the cornices were an all day job. With this machine, I painted the lot in less than 15 mins. It really can be that quick. The machine itself works perfectly and produces excellent results prodviding you take some care with your paint types. The finish is way better than roller based painting, at least in my view (i've done a lot of that in my past) and if the surface is not 100% virgin, coverage is great. If virgin, you just need a bit more overlap in your paint strokes is all. Well done on the vid.

I've only used it for white mist coats and white matt so far. Can't say I've got the hang of a 10 minute clean down yet though, it seems to take me ages. I do the opposite, but I use spray shields. Sometimes I need to do some touch up by hand, but I still find it faster than masking everything. I do ceiling, trim/doors then walls. 24:00 touch ups. Trust me, anyone can get a spray finish touch up with roller or even brush. I've been working with Wagner, Graco units worth thousands etc the past 8 years, industrial sprayer day in day out. Thin down your product with suitable thinner/water/glycol etc and get flock foam rollers and take in larger sections. No need to respray unless your surface area is more than a couple metre square. Great job by the way, truly a master of all trades, you're universal logic and can-do attitude serves you well. your wagner airless is a fine investment, get back your time. Had some painters scoff at me, claiming touch ups can't be done, blacks and strong colours are impossible to work with. Have hundreds of customers to say otherwise, not even other professionals can see where I've done remedial work to others damage.

@@zarasbubble1748 as in a low volume gravity gun or airbrush? You'd think so, but it would involve masking off potential areas of overspray. I normally take in a larger section to a corner or spray down or up way out of a person's eyeline or critical light. Brush or foam roller works that way too. It's extremely hard to feather a wet edge with some of these water borne paints and guns. It either is a visible patch in sheen, or goes on too dry at the edge. Hope it works out for you if you need to give it a bash

Spraying first of two layers, then last third one applied with sprayer, but finishing touch with a roller (with no additional paint) - works like a charm every single time. Also you can add the roll texture in the second layer and just spray the third one on top of that, if you want a faded roller texture.

But how would I mask up the walls without it damaging the walls after? Even with the masking tape for new paint I find it risky? Any tips? What a revelation! A mate has one of these (yellow) units and has offered it to me. I'm a decorator. It looks like I need to have a go. One tip when doing cabinets or trim with a roller - always lay the paint off with a brush. You can get a 'Laying Off Brush' specifically for it. yes, you need to be quick with water based paints, but the finish can be exquisite. Floetrol keeps the paint 'open' for a bit longer, and for big panels, wipe them down with a wet cloth immediately before painting to give you half a minute longer to get the paint on. The best paint I've encountered so far is F&B Modern Eggshell or Tikurilla, but the paint tech is evolving all the time so I fully expect to see Dulux, Leyland and so on bringing new stuff. Oh, Zinsser do some magic paint - and even B&Q's Valspar emulsion is exquisite. Great vid. New sub.

Also, did you try using an cardboard sheet to mask the walls/ceiling, where you just move the cardboard with other hand, instead of tape? Finally. Did you have to thin the paint at all? Does it just work straight out of the pot?

What tip are you using? why is taking so long to spray? Is that setup on higher pressure?

Being a car painter that has used a airless sprayer to paint a couple house, how come you spray the wall with the sprayer using up and down strokes rather then left and right strokes. I have been spraying left to right as that's what I'm use to with cars. Do you think it makes much difference?

I can only guess that you don't want to be walking with the spray going. Vertical strokes can be done standing still.

Every tool is great for a specific job. E.g a impact driver is great for framing and rough jobs, a hand screwdriver is good for door handles and your more likely to slip and scratch the handle with a impact driver. With decorating, a sprayer is brilliant if you have lots of rooms to do. If you only got one room, it’s probably easier and quicker prep wise to use a roller.

Can you tell me where you got it from and where you get your covering material for your doors and windows and what masking tape your use please mate

Very helpful information and comments as well. Thanks for sharing! May I ask you a question please? Do you mask the walls when you spray the door jams? I understand that you are spraying them with some acrylic paint which is different from the emulsion /latex paint you are using for the interior walls and ceiling. Does it matter for the later application of the emulsion paint if that acrylic paint goes onto the wall as well around the door frames?

Hi mate, don't know much about Wagners, but just get a 308 FFLP tip and it doesn't matter which machine I guess. The FFLP Tips are Graco I think. Maybe wagner do the same. Nor sure. The machine I got was 900 quid with all the hoses etc. Can't imagine Wagner will be cheaper.

Hi, what brand you used for a small handheld unit? Many thanks.
@KimmoJaskari Жыл бұрын
The same brand as the big sprayer, Wagner, has hand held models for literally 50 bucks and they work just fine. I think the W100 ultra cheapo I got can do 5 square meters in 10 minutes so the flow isn't massive, but it's not going to be on any handheld. I did find a 1.4 liter accessory container for it that fits, so that will cut down on the refills a little. It's possible this other brand of handheld is better, but 10 times better, I have my doubts. It's nice to be able to get into a perfectly fine sprayer for almost no money, just to see how you get on. They do have intermediary sets between the very cheapest and these huge units also.
