I make a cheesey ham veggie soup. Remove raw bacon from package and cut in half. Store unused half portion. Cook remaining half of bacon in stock pot or instant pot and reserve the grease. Set bacon aside or store if using ham instead. Add diced onion (I use yellow, but white works too), sauté till onion is translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Lower heat below medium, add between 3-4 Tbsp Cheese powder and 1-2 Tbsp butter to make a roux (no need to brown this dry mixture, it’s not flour. Just mix well). Then add 2 cups chicken stock, salt, pepper, 1 C. heavy cream, diced ham (or bacon garnish later), mixed veggies (canned, fresh, or frozen dealers choice). Bring heat up to medium low and cook till veggies are tender. Serve and enjoy. I’ll also sometimes fry my ham in the bacon grease for the fond and markings on the ham.

Delicious!! I just made the cheeseburger soup. This bizarrely tastes just like a cheeseburger! ( I know, hence the name ) But, honestly I did not expect it to taste like one. I was tempted to add other ingredients to jazz it up, like onion powder or garlic. After tasting it, I think it would take away from the cheeseburger flavor so I’m going keep it just the way it is. It's night & day comparing cooked vs raw radishes. I hate eating them raw (in salads etc) but they are such a great potato replacement in stuff like soups & beef pot roast. They soak up the juices and flavor of whatever they are cooked in, the harsh flavor disappears, and they become very soft

Gram for gram, arrowroot has the same carbs as cornstarch and potato starch, all of which have more carbs than wheat flour
@KetoFocus3 жыл бұрын
Arrowroot powder has 7x the thickening power compared to all-purpose flour. Typically, you would have to use 1/4 cup of flour to thicken a soup which is about 20grams of carbs vs 1 teaspoon of arrowroot powder which is 7 grams carbs. Plus arrowroot powder is gluten free. 😀
@cassieoz17023 жыл бұрын
@@KetoFocus interesting, I've never found it's thickening power much different from cornstarch or potato starch and I'd certainly not use 1/4 cup pf plain flour to thicken 3 cups of liquid for soup. We used to use arrowroot a lot in the olden days when I was young 😉
